That's a ditto for me too! Ooh someone should do this survey! Or has it been done already? I'm interested to see the outcome.

I always liked Coke much better than Pepsi but with this new 1 1/2 liter bottle they are selling coke in I have switched to Pepsi where they still have a normal 2 liter bottle!
Tonic is a seltzer water that they use to make Gin and Tonics....never heard of anyone drinking tonic other than with gin.

Diehard New Englander who calls it soda! When I lived in Columbus, OH my friends used to try to get me to say Pop! Just couldnt do it!

How do you order it in a restaurant?

"I'll have a Dr. Pepper coke?"

or

"I'll have a Sprite Coke?"

If you ask for that around here, they'll mix the two flavors together (after looking at you weird!) ;)

No, just as those who call it soda don't say, "I'd like a Sprite soda." :)

We ask the waitress what kind of cokes the restaurant serves. The reply will either be somthing like, "Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew" or "Coke, Sprite, Mello Yello." Then we order the one we want.

I might also say, "DH, will you please pick up some cokes next time you're in WalMart." He knows I mean caffeine-free diet Mountain Dew for me, Sprites for the girls, and Dr. Pepper for him. (btw, we mostly drink water or iced tea :teeth: we only have cokes for parties or special occasions. I think it's bad for kids to drink too much coke).

I had a friend who traveled north on business and got a real confused look from the waitress when he asked what kind of cokes they had!

They're called Cokes! (yep, another Southener)

"Would you like a coke?"
"Yes, please."
"What kind would you like? We have Coke, Dr Pepper, and Sprite."

Everyone here says pop. That bugs me, so I always say soda. My DH makes fun of me for it all the time.

In northern Wisconsin we call it pop or soda. Does that mean that the cultures have collided?
