So I am thinking of getting a little something for my ds's soccer coach. its a rec league in town the coaches all volunteer.
the coach for my ds's team is awesome in my opinion. It was my ds's first year playing, U10 team, and half the boys on the team were very experienced and half were new.
the coach made it such a great experience, very positive and encouraging.
my ds loved it. they also have won all their games but one ( but I digress ).....
so any ideas of something I can do?
gift card to dunkin donuts? something else?

DH has been coaching soccer for almost 10 years straight. Most of the time, the parents chip in for a gf - visa, restaurant, sports authority. My kids play on a lot of teams, and this happens most of the time. Just ask the other parents if anyone is organizing this, and offer to do so. I am usually asked to give $5 - $10 (for teams DH is not coaching), depending on the number of coaches.

At the end of every season, we are asked to donate $20 for the coach's gift. Honestly, I don't even know what they buy!

(this was true of little league as well)

DH coached soccer for years. While gift cards etc. were nice to get, the best of all was a note expressing appreciation - and if DS can also write one, all the better! DH still has all those kinds notes/cards he got, while the gift cards are long gone and forgotten. When you're in that kind of position where people feel like they can criticize you and complain all the time, it means a lot to hear the good as well.

dh has coached baseball for years and is coaching soccer this year for the first time. he really loves the cards/notes he gets. He puts a lot of time and effort into volunteering his time, so its nice to know the kids/parents do care. dd gift cards are much appreciated, too, if so inclined. :)

oh yes! I should have said in my OP that I fully intend to write him a nice card/note expressing my thanks and appreciation. regardless of if we give a team gift or I just do something, the note is definitely being given.

DH is a soccer coach and he LOVES his cards. He has kept them all. He usually gets a gift card to a sporting goods store.

One year, we got DS' coach a soccer ball with the team colors and the kids all wrote little notes of thanks on it and signed their names. They were 8-9 and it was really cute. We also gave him a gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods as he was a big sports person.

DH coached soccer for that age bracket. Gift cards to sporting good stores, coffee stores, and or a gas card. All our part of the position and would be appreciated.

Your situation sounds very similar to ours. My dd played for the first time this fall (she is 6) and lucked out to have a very good coach. He was super patient with the girls and really taught them a lot.

What I did was ordered an extra team picture from the photographers that took everyone's pics. Or, you could have a parent take one if you dont have professional pics taken. Then, I got a white mat and had the girls sign their names and said Thanks Coach Tom. Got a black frame and put it together.

He loved it and I thought it turned out super cute!
