Oops! I posted in the "Disneyland is closing early" thread, but I'll post here too just in case:

I work at the San Diego Zoo and total attendance was 348 guests, which is a lot more than I even expected! I heard a rumor that Sea World was closed today, but can't confirm.

Scary downpour with big wind gusts about 15 minutes ago in L.A. Now, although it is still raining outside, the fury of it has quieted down a bit. That is the one thing about these storms so far - the intensity seems to waver. It is not consistently torrential or windy, but it is certainly steady enough to cause flooding and other damage.

A State of Emergency has been declared in 3 SoCal counties.

I keep getting an ominous "Severe Thunderstorm Warning" message popping up on my TV (the cable company interrupts all programming to share that with us), and with the severe thunderstorm is supposed to come some pretty serious wind which could be tornadic....but this part of the "fun" has not hit my area yet!!

Yup, Sea World was closed today and is going to be closed tomorrow as well. I saw it on the news.

Well, it's time for me to sign off. Another warning from the National Weather Service just came on the TV, warning of the dreaded "severe thunderstorms" (so far, they have not been severe in my area), winds up to 60 mph and "quarter-sized hail." Then the little voice in the TV said, "This is a dangerous storm. Get indoors if you can, preferably inside a strong building, but away from windows." The voice said that this hail, wind, etc. was moving towards Brea, which is part of Orange County, and then northeast. I don't know if all of this action will be moving right over where I am in L.A., but seeing that my PC is right next to the window, it is time for me to bid farewell for the evening!!

I hope my building is "strong" enough!! Gee, do you think they know how to scare people at that National Weather Service? We have got flash flood warnings, tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, quarter-sized hail and dangerous winds!! FUN!

I am going to tell you, I think that was a good idea. It is still very stormy here. They are calling for sun over the weekend but the high's will be in the lo 60's...very cool-ish. I hope you were able to get all your money back.

Right now we are having allot of lightning...no thunder though. It is 55 degrees.

We leave Phoenix this afternoon, I am keeping my faith in the weather forecast that Saturday is supposed to clear up after a possible morning shower!

We canceled for last weekend and so glad we did. We will just hope for good pricing and plan another time.

Well Last Night was certainly an interesting night. It would storm really hard with lots of lightening and then get real quiet and then back to storming. We did get hail in my area which actaully woke me up since it was a very unusal to hear hail hitting the house.

I am sorry for the people who canceled thier trips but, I think you made the right decision. SoCal is just not prepared to deal with this type of weather for as long as we have had it. THere a lot of power outages and other storm side efects that will still be in place even as this clears up.

We head out tomorrow.....I think we will be fine. Check your flights and make sure they are not delayed. I am expecting a little rain tomorrow when we get there and the weather looks pretty decent for the rest of week. We even plan on swimming.

Whew! I made it through last night! After that scary warning from the National Weather Service about getting into a "strong building" and staying away from windows, etc.. tornado warnings, flash flood warnings, damaging wind warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings with quarter-sized hail, etc., last night, I basically crawled (hid) under a comforter, stuck my ear plugs in and attempted to fall asleep. However, I know it must have been hailing at some point because there was a loud pounding against my window at times that I could hear despite my ear plugs!!

This morning, I looked outside to see what was still standing, what was floating, what was missing, etc.! My neighbor's wimpy, thin, bendy tree looks to have snapped, and there all kinds of palm frons and "FOR RENT" signs scattered around the streets (always a lot of rentals available in this neighborhoood!). Right now I am staring at a patch of blue sky but rain is still expected for today, off and on.

Saturday and Sunday will be clear. Then there is another storm moving in late Monday night or early Tuesday, and it is is not supposed to clear out until towards the end of next week. But that storm probably won't be as severe as this week's storms have been.

Thank you, Jack! I made it through - I heard pounding (through my ear plugs) which I assume was hail. As a PP said, it was interesting, because it would rain and gust wind and be really scary and severe for a while, and then suddenly it would get really quiet and calm down. Then out of nowehere, it would start raging again. We actually did not get the worst of the storms right in my area of L.A. The storm cells that were really, really, really bad skipped around us and hit other areas, so those areas are trying to deal with flooding and damage (another little tornado) this morning.

Everything was so nice and white but now it's starting to rain so it's getting all slushy. Still kind of fun to see since we only get it once every year or two. We're just hoping our plants can survive the snow.

Glad you made it through the night with all that crazy weather! I heard the rain all night but there was no strong wind or hail here. However, we got snow at our house today! Everything was so nice and white but now it's starting to rain so it's getting all slushy. Still kind of fun to see since we only get it once every year or two. We're just hoping our plants can survive the snow.

I forgot where you are in SoCal? I mean not exactly where you are, obviously, but in general! It is weird how the storm cells kind of skip certain areas and devastate other areas. I can't imagine what the areas that got the "worst" of it had to deal with!

Every now and then, once every several years, it gets cold and rainy enough to create a little snow in Malibu!! I have never been there to see it, but it has happened once or twice in the last decade. Now Malibu is one of the last places you would expect snow, so that must be really interesting to see it juxtaposed with all the sand and surf!

I would like, just once, for it to be cold enough where I am in L.A. to get just a little smidge of snow! But the temperatures have never dropped quite enough to make that happen in my entire life!

9am in SoCal and the sun is peeking out. The clouds are still plentiful but I am hoping this will be a day where everything starts to dry up. The sun returns tomorrow.
BUT it is cool here. 48 degrees in Newport Beach.

I am so glad all our DISer's made it through this horrible week of storms we had here in California.

Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread! I have been following closely wondering what to pack and how we're going to stay dry! I don't think I've ever been so hesistant to go to So. Cal. We are heading down there today until Monday, and crossing our fingers our flight isn't delayed or cancelled!

Glad you guys made it last night! We are sitting with 3 1/2 feet of snow on the ground and expecting another 11-21 inches before it is all over tomorrow. The roof of my favorite fabric shop collapsed. The weather service is saying that this storm will go down as one of the top 3 snow producers for us. Before the snow started Wednesday night, we were 8 inches ahead of normal for snow, so this will probably help our drought; since, the snow will sit on the mountain and melt in the spring. Hopefully, El Nino's wrath will finish up next week. I hope that this is not what we (all of us) have to look forward to all winter. Can you guys imagine what SoCal has had happening all winter? Hopefully, this is all. Have a great lull in the storm until the next one on Monday!
