Soaring over California

Tracy,

Soarin' is a hang glider simulator, and you "fly" over an Omni-type movie screen showing scenes in California. It is multi-sensory--you not only feel the motion of the hang glider, there's also wind in your face, the scent of grapes as you fly over a vineyard, etc. It is breathtaking--I've never experienced anything like it. I should also note that I am EXTREMELY prone to motion sickness (I frequently have to close my eyes during rapid motion parts of plain old Omni movies), and I had no trouble at all on Soarin'. It's spectacular--one of the very best attractions of either park in DLR.

Thanks so much for the description. I knew it was a simulator type thing but I didn't realise that you were suspended. It sounds great. I've got to wait 'til April to try it.

But.... I have this lousy fear of heights and avoid anything that suspends. Could you be more specific on high off the ground your feet actually are? I know this is going to sound ridiculous but I'm even a tad bit uncomfortable on the Peter Pan ride soaring all over Never Neverland!
Thanks
Jenn

jdm - You are highest in Row 1. I rode in row 2 and was still a bit scared. Row 3 is lowest and least scary if you are afraid of heights.

We rode for the first time last week..........I am SOOOOO scared of heights. However, we were in row 1, and I couldn't tell how high we were at all.

I have problems with heights too and when the ride started I was a bit nervous at first. You're not that high but you feel like you are due to the film. I kept glancing to the side so that I could see the wall and I soon relaxed and got over the fear. I would try it if I were you but try to get Row 3 if you're worried. We were in Row 2 and I did just fine.

My brother has a heart ailment and is terminally ill, he's received his dream of going to Disneyland through the Dream Foundation! Would this ride be okay for him to ride?

Nadine, yes, absolutely! It is a BEAUTIFUL ride, very smooth, and it is not jerky, scary or fast in the least.

It's our favorite ride at DCA -- row one is the BEST as you get an unobstructed view of the screen.

GREAT, thanks so much for the much needed info, can't wait to ride it, and my brother will be happy to hear he can ride also!!!

My wife is extremely scared of heights, and she loved it.
Granted we had to be in the third row. It is a very smooth
and enjoyable ride. Can't remember for sure but I thought
the cast member told me the rows were 20, 30, & 40 up?

I have a fear of heights and was quite nervous the first time I rode this, but I loved it and didn't have any problems once the ride started. You get the best view from the first row, but you're also the highest. Those with a fear of heights might want to start in the third row, which is the lowest to the ground.

I also have a fear of heights and was scared the first time I rode. To boot, I was assigned to row 1. I kept my eyes closed for part of it. Despite my fear, I did enjoy the ride, which IMHO is the best ride in the park. The second time I rode, I was assigned row 2 and managed to keep my eyes open. The more times I rode, the more comfortable I got.

I have always been afraid of heights, but after reading these posts I guess my fear is mild. We rode in the first row three times this summer and it never bothered me at all. I don't think that I even noticed we were off the ground I was enjoying the ride so much!

I think this ride is one of the best I have ever been on.

So has anyone else had trouble with motion sickness on the ride? I can't watch Omnimax theater movies, and I even got motion sickness on that energy ride at WDW with Ellen Degeneres. Any comparison?

Thanks:cool:

Tell the cast member that you want to ride "B 1" and you will get the best seat in the ride! But you didn't hear that from me

I get sick really easy now days. I can't even do a teeter totter with the great nephew. I can do Soarin' though, until you get to the Navy ships in San Diego. Then it is okay after that scene. I do feel slightly dizzy during parts of it but it is nothing real bad. When you see the ships close your eyes and then peek every few seconds until they are gone and then enjoy the final part of the ride.

Thanks Daannzzz! I can't believe how the simplest things make me nauseous. And it definitely has increased with age

I have heard so many great things about this ride, I am willing to risk it just to experience it.
