Question for the experts...

Is Soaring over California like Star tours/Body Wars?

Both Dh and I got queasy after body wars and we both have avoided star tours due to same type of ride.

But we have heard such great things about soaring...tell me about your experience with the ride please.

Thanks!

Pam

Not really. Soarin' is like hang gliding in front of a Imax. I don't recall any jarring movements or fast turns. It's really very gentle.

I would say that if an IMAX movie can make you queasy, then Soarin' might as well. It is beautiful, you do feel like you're flying! (even though you're sitting down). The only thing our DD (4 at the time) didn't like about it was she was afraid her shoes were going to fall off, since your feet are dangling. ;)

I wouldn't say Soarin' is much like Star Tours at all. Soarin' is very gentle, movement-wise. By all means, give it a try. If you feel yourself getting queasy, just close your eyes for a bit so you're not looking at the screen.

I get a little queasy on Star Tours but not on Soaring.

It kind of reminds me more of a Ferris wheel ride. If you don't get queasy on a Ferris wheel then you'll be fine for Soaring. I would say if your scared of heights don't go on it.

I get sick on Star Tours and Body Wars. Soarin' over California has a couple spots that can make me dizzy and one part that I close my eyes as the first two times I watched it and it really started to make me sick. It is like some of the CircleVision films where the camera tilts back and forth. There are two short ones that you probably will be okay with but when they get to San Diego and you see the air craft carriers you may wish to close your eyes for 15 seconds or so.
It isn't a rough ride at all. The seats you sit in move up into the air in front of the screen and then you can barely feel them moving after that.

I get a sick tummy on star tours, which is odd because I can handle any other ride in the world. I can handle the biggest roller coaster and the fastest spinning things, but star tours does me in every time. SOC is a fabulous ride, and I'd recommend it to anybody. It doesn't make me ill like star tours does. It's very mild and pleasant. I wouldn't want to miss that one!!!!

I just have to say that I LOVE Soarin' over California!!!
It's a wonderful ride and I doubt you'll have any problems with it. Enjoy it and breathe deeply!!!!:earsboy:

They let pregnant women on Soarin' and not on the others if that helps in the convincing you it's gentle department. I love it. It's really smooth, though I certainly feel movement throughout the ride.

Soarin' is very smooth -- you shouldn't have a problem with it at all.

Of course, if you're scared of heights like I am? Don't look down!

I agree with what everyone else has said about it being nothing like Body Wars and Star Tours. But I am very afraid of heights and Soarin' did not bother me at all!! It is awesome! Just wish it was longer!!

Thank you everyone for all the comments! We will definately make this a must.

You guys must think I am soooo phobic! And yes, I am afraid of heights, but I think I can handle this by looking at the "screen" and not my feet.

Thank you for all the info!

Pam

I don't think you're phobic at all! Have a wonderful trip!!!

Soarin' was really great. Defintely a smooth ride and what a great way to see California. We're from the East Coast. We rode it several times and it reminds us of the IMAX movie 'To Fly,' if you ever saw that. The best part is flying over the orange groves -- you really smell the oranges! ;-)
