Is there anyone with an admitted fear of heights that has tried Soarin' at EPCOT?

How did you handle it?

You might want to do a search here on the DIS. Several people that are afraid of heights have posted their experiences.

I am afraid of heights and had no problems. The first time I saw it there were a few places I just closed my eyes. Ever since I haven't had any problems.

I never thought I had a big fear of heights, but I was a little nervous on Soarin'. You might want to sit in the third row because it does not lift up as high. I kept feeling like I was going to slip out of the seat. Although they have crotch belts for the kids under a certain height, I was tempted to use one because they will definitely keep you in. It was very fun once I got used to the height!

I hope you enjoy it! :flower:

I am afraid of heights but did go on the ride. When I started to get panicky, I turned my head to the side and kind of squinched my eyes closed some so that I only saw a little bit of the screen (like you do during a scary movie, lol). It wasn't too bad. I also get motion sick so I think not watching the screen full-on helped me in that way some as well.

YEP!!! I can't stand bridges, the movie scenes that are ariel, etc... I want to puke!

I did Sorin just fine (thank goodness cuz I bribed my five year old with that huge castle toy) and so did she!

To someone afraid of heights, there is no such thing as ONLY 30 feet off the ground! That's about 29 feet too far.

Actually, I am not afraid to fly (because you are enclosed) and I can ride Space Mountain (because you can't see where you are) but soarin worries me.

I am a chicken about heights. (I cry up in my attic!) I love Soarin' Can't tell you why this doesn't scare me but it doesn't.

Yes, me! This ride is more like an airplane than a 'ride'-- the sensation is that you are NOT attached to the ground. Most people with a fear of heights seem to fear only those things which are attached to the ground. This ride is one I really loved! Very peaceful!

I'm afraid of heights (like falling heights, not like airplane heights) and Soarin' is my favorite ride EVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

Although I have to admit, the first time I rode it I was a little scared when they raised us up only because I wasn't expecting it and if you're in the front row and look down you're up quite ab it, my best guess would be about 50 feet. This freaked me out a bit but when the movie starts rolling it is SO much fun!

After just a few seconds you get so into it and you can't wait to ride it again!! :cool1:

After reading the rest of the responses, here's a tip: just go with it. The seats feel really sturdy but it seems like some people felt uncomfortable in them....just remember that part of the mechanics of the ride include tilting the seats back so you physically can't fall forward.

My advice is just to be excited about it. I am such a wimp about rides (Test Track is the most intense ride I'll do in all of WDW. No ToT, RnRC, SM, etc...not for me) but Soarin' is my absolute favorite. It is SO much fun.

If you can, though, request to be in the third row because in the third row you're below the other two rows so you're only about 10-15 feet off the ground instead of like 30-40.

Thanks for all who responded.

We just returned from Disney and tried Soarin at EPCOT. Even with a fear of heights, it is a ride you should try. I asked for the third row (row 1 goes highest). The ascent is smooth and you don't have a sense of how high you are off the ground. There are a couple of times when you have a sensation of leaning forward and that was a little tense, but overall it was groovy. (Couldn't help using that word - we stayed at POP Century).
