Has anyone been on this at CA? What type of ride is it as far as thrills go? It looks so awesome, but I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to rides...I've never even been on the Barnstormer. :rolleyes1 Can someone explain it to me?

There are 9 rows with 10 to 11 people per row. They have 2 theatres with approx 87 people per theatre. You are lifted 20 to 40 feet off ground. The closer to the IMAX screen-- the higher your seat elevates. The trick here is to not look down. they do have spaces underneath for backpacks, etc. If you are wearing sandals/flip flops--should take off.

There are scenes with scents--orange, pine, and ocean scent. I would not classify as a thrill ride--but an experience.

The seats move up and down--tilt forward, backward, left, right for stimulation of flying--it does not physically move to the left and right.

It is a great ride!!

We went to DL for the first time in October and Soarin was our favorite ride!! :flower: we rode it 4 times in 2 days :cool1: It is not a thrill ride in any way, it is peaceful and relaxing. Unless you are scared of hights you will love this ride. It is a giant IMAX screen, you sit in a swing type seat with a seat belt. The seats lift up so you are eye level with the screen. The movie takes you through California's coast line, golf coarses, wine country, hollywood ect... They even pump in some fancy air for that sensory experience. My only complaint is that the lines can move very slow!!! We used fast pass everytime and still waited anywhere from 10-25 minutes.
But it was always worth the wait.
Be sure to get in the first or front row when lining up for the theater this will get you the top row of your "glider" and the best view of the screen.
I am going to WDW in early April and am hoping it is open for previews :goodvibes

tell her to not look down and look at the screen and ask for a seat that is towards the back---good luck!

What do you think of motion sickness and this ride?? Just close your eyes if you feel sick?

I am going to say that the motion sickness probably should be ok. Not a fast moving ride, you are lifted up and get to see amazing things. If you have a motion sickness fright--I would take one of those pills--I have heard of others doing that. Enjoy!!

We are SOOOO excited about this ride. I hope it's up and running when we get there next year,in April....it looks AWESOME!

If she can take Imax type shows then she should be fine.

But you do get the sensation of "soaring", so if that is going to bother her, then she should take the motion sickness pills like debiedoo suggested just to be on the safe side....

Maybe you could ride it first so you can describe it to her before she gets on? (I get motion sickness to a small degree and I find it helpful to have a hard candy to suck on if I get queasy on a ride.)

Good luck! I hope she can do it, it is a great ride!! :cheer2:

We have rode Soarin in DCA many, many, many time and I am a big old motion sickness person and have never felt any type of sickness on this ride... It is such an amazing feeling and love all the smells that they pump in so you really get the full experience!!!

I also get motion sickness on every simulator ride in WDW but I felt nothing on Soarin!! It was smooth and relaxing :cloud9:

will it be okay for my 6 year old? She isn't particularly scared of anything if Mommy is right beside her. Will we be right beside each other, and can I told her hand if needed?

I wish my DD's were still young enough to want to hold my hand.... :goodvibes

Yes, you will be right beside eachother if you ask to be, and you can hold hands.

My six year old can't wait!! I told her that it would be like a movie and flying--she liked that--but then again, my daughter has always asked why can't we fly like peter pan and the gang :)

Thanks all you motion sick people! I have confidence to try it now - maybe with a little motion sickness drug though.

I get motion sickness pretty easy, on spinners, simulators, roller coasters and some other mellower rides that move alot. "Soaring is, in general, mostly easy to handle. I do feel like I am on the verge of getting a bit sick at the end. I do close my eyes for one small section. When you see the naval ships in San Diego close your eyes for 5 seconds or so.

Will WDW's version be the same exact movie as that at DCA? Just curious. Thanks!

I rode it at Disneyland in November and I LOVED it! It's the most awesome ride. I tend to get motion sickness and this didn't make me sick at all. I was in the last row, so I was at the bottom of the screen. I really felt like I could touch the water with my feet. I can't wait to see it at Epcot.

my son who hates anything fast or with heights loved this ride. In my opinion you don't even notice how high you are because you are focused on the screen. and as far as the height thing goes as far as feeling you are up high we just told our son it is only a movie you are not really as high as you seem and he was okay with it. If my son can ride it anyone can he is almost 11 and want even get on the barnstormer. But that is okay as long as he has the best time ever.

Yep, that's what I've heard...of course I haven't "seen" it yet! But, I don't mind, I loved riding it at DCA!! And I get to WDW more often!
