OK, this is not really a rumor or actual news. In fact, I just made it up, but follow me for a minute if you will.

It seems pretty definite that Soarin (both at Epcot and DCA) is getting new digital projectors and a new movie. There's some pretty solid talk (and some actual construction pix) about adding a 3rd screen to the Epcot venue as well.

So, I'm sure as soon as a new movie is announced there will be a great cry about how everybody loves the current movie. (yes, I'm in that category) Some folks will hate the new movie simply because its not the old movie. (no, I'm not in that category)

How about a win/win situation though? How about if they digitize the old movie so that it can be swapped with the new one at just a change of a switch. OK, so maybe its slightly more than that, but really it could be done fairly easily. Then they could offer two versions of Soarin' at the same time.

I don't think Soarin is about the movie, its about the experience. The theme is great, the pre-show movie is the best out there, the music is awesome, anticipation is built expertly, there is so much that is right that the movie really makes very little difference. The only thing I hope, is that if they change the movie, they keep some sort of Disney magic in the ending like they have now with Tink and the fireworks because that is truly the perfect ending

The new film will be appearing at Shanghai first as an exclusive to Shanghai once it premieres there it won't be long before it comes to the other parks. The construction of a third theater is underway the back of Soarin is dug up and a a construction trailer is there I have photo evidence of that.

It's supposed to be once the new theater opens one of the other ones can go down for refurb and upgrades. Then the last one so then they can switch to the new film all at once because it is digital. They won't offer two versions at the same time the old film will be converted to digital first before the new one is ready.

DCA is getting the digital upgrades as we speak.

Actually I think Disney would make a ton of money if everytime they retire or change a ride or show, they offer the old one on DVD or BluRay. How I would love to have a professional video of the original Imagination, World of Motion, Horizons, Energy, etc. I'm sure there are others out there that feel the same. Instead I have to settle for amateur video that people post to YouTube.

They really should have thought of that and I am surprised they didn't. There is no excuse for not having one for Maelstorm and the dark rides that have closed in recent years.

I actually don't think they would make as much money as you would think. I'm sure Disney has thought of this. They do sell ride audio music.

My favorite part of soarn' is the music, so as long as they don't mess with that, I would be fine.

They pretty much have to change the music if they get a new movie. The whole thing has to work together.

I'd love to see them do what they did in Star Tours. Set it up so that there are multiple clips and randomly piece together the flight each time. That would be fun

This is good news, it needs it! I just hope they keep the orange smell in there somewhere :) While they are spending all this money though they REALLY need to do something about handicapped access to this ride and The Land in general. You have to push a wheel chair up basically two stories only to go back down a ramp one story then take the sole elevator in the building down 1 more story to get to Soarin, basically on the same level you were already on before you started! It is exhausting...

If you look here in this picture I took. There is a construction trailer on the right. The building is the Soarin Theaters. Behind the building it is all dug up and gravel. I didn't get a picture but it appeared maybe a footer or two was poured.

My family and I are looking forward to the new Soarin movie. I hope they keep "smells" as part of the ride. It is awesome to be flying over the orange groves and smelling the oranges. LOVE IT....

I thought I heard they were going to do something similar to star tours or TOT and have the film different for every flight. That would make it a better attraction (not to say its not now).

I would guess that smells will be part of any new movie. The mechanism is built into the ride vehicles so its just a matter of providing the right scent at the right time.

In the latest Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill and Len Testa, Jim states that they're filming 2 versions of the film. A Soarin over America and a Soarin over the World. Be interesting to see which films are shown where.

They could do Soarin' over California, Soarin' over Florida, Soarin' over New York, Soarin over Minnesota, etc., etc. Make it like an airport with different flights to different locations. Now that would be awesome!
