You "fly" over orange groves,vineyards,rivers,canyons,forests,etc... if that doesn't describe The Land, what does ?

All of which are scenes from California... hardly representative enough for a pavilion that is supposed to be about a much grander scope than some real estate in California.

Let's put it another way... If the film did not already exist, would the California film be the best "Show" and "fit" in this case? Even close?

IF it is built, and IF it is done with the existing film, its a cost move, pure and simple. Its fine to applaud the virtues of the move on that basis, but from a Show and customer satisfaction perspective, its wide open to criticism.

.... I have no idea what the film will be. I just don't think The Land is such an illogical place to put it. If they decide to give Epcot's version the same basic theme, I'd imagine we'd be soarin' over the Everglads, Keys, Miami, Daytona, WDW, NASA, etc.

I could be wrong, but I think Mike and bonsai meant specifically Soarin' Over CA... If not, and the issue is with the idea of Soarin' over somewhere, not CA, then I'm pretty much with you Vike, it would work fine.

Of course, I have to throw in my requisite lamentation about it being another height restricted attraction...

Also, the CA version is completely lacking in the story and Show departments, which I hope would not be the case for a WDW version...

I am so excited if they decide to put the Soarin ride in at WDW. I am a Disneyland veteran, and am planning our first trip to WDW in about 60 days! I must admit I was sad that some of my favorite rides that were at Disneyland and CAdventures wouldn't be there, (like their Indiana Jones ride --AWESOME!) And CA Soarin was one of them. But I know from Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, that each park has its own unique features...
I think that people will be in for a real treat if Disney decides to put it in at WDW. (I think it is a very popular ride at California Adventures--but a kinda long wait time) And yes, you fly over things that make California special, Napa Valley, the coast, even forests and snow capped mountains...I think they just try and cover the unique areas that make up their state. And I am sure they will have to alter it for Florida or the world's own benefit. It isn't the film part that is as invigorating or entertaining as the simulator. It feels as if you are really flying on hang gliders...I was skeptical about it, but then tried it and loved it. I will plan another trip in the future, and it will definitely be a ride I will look forward to seeing how/if they change it from the original!!

I don't recall Soarin' having a height restriction- but then my boys are 23 and 20 so I haven't looked for one in years.

But I would think if it did,it could be easily overcome by making the bottom row of gliders more child friendly.

I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain I saw some pretty small kids getting on the ride.

Soarin' Over California has a 40" height restriction.

Very excited that it appears to be coming. Will be disappointed if the "California" film is used. "Soarin' over America" would be much better. Heck, make it 30% to 40% California if you want to save some costs. Just don't cop out and give us the same exact film that has virtuall no relevance to Florida. The Land pavillion speaks of the whole nation, in fact the whole world. Here's hoping that somebody with enough pull at Disney comes to their senses, if in fact a pure clone is being anticipated.

I agree with you 100% Matt.

The ending landing in disneyland would be really weird. Maybe they figure the average guest wouldn't notice the difference, but I don't see how you couldn't.

Now, one little part of me says, if this helps to Florida parks convince the Ca. purses to let them build it, then they can upgrade the movie later, then maybe it is OK.

But again, after you make the ride mechanism, how much can it be to film a three minute imax film out of a helicopter? Or as gcurling points out, one new minute and two old minutes?h

Also, it sounds like this plan there would be very minimal theming for the soarin clone. Rather than have it be something like a flight strip or bush pilot or whatever, it would just be an entrance off from the land pavillion. Not that the one in DCA is themed over the top or anything, but that is pretty weak.

I still really, really believe that they could use this ride format better at another location. I love soarin and would like it at wdw, but they shouldn't blow it by putting it in the cheapest place possible. I really think they'd get a lot more bang for the buck using it to anchor Austrailia or something like that -then they could promote a whole new land after E:E.

Now, what I would love the most would be Soarin' over the Serengeti over at the Animal Kingdom, or Soarin' over (insert country here) at the World Showcase, but I'll take Soarin' over California over no Soarin' at all any day.
And let's face it - Soarin' over Florida, as some have suggested, would be about as entertaining as watching an ice cube melt...
