Although I've read on the web and the guidebooks, I wanted some more information about this ride. I have two sons with mild cerebral palsy, so I wanted to know a little about how the ride works.

Are there seats to sit on? Is it similar to other motion simulators like Star Tours? Do you really feel like a hangglider and support yourself with your arms?

Thanks for the information!

Wade

You sit in seats that are about 8-10 per row. There is a small canopy over your head to give the feal of a hang glider and also as a means to communicate some of the effects. There are thre rows of these, one behind the other and three sets side by side. There are seat belts and adapters for smaller kids.

Scroll down on some of these and you will see pics. The first link is the best.

The seats then lift up off of the floor in toward the omnidome screen in a thrilling sweeping movement nd you sort of feel like you are flying. The higher seats are maybe 25-35 feet off the ground. The air blows past you with occaisional scents to match what you are seeing. The seats tilt a bit in diiferent directions to match the movement on the screen. It is a very pleasant ride unless you have a great fear of falling.

Well, daannzzz gave a great description :D , but I have one thing to add. Soarin' is not really similar to Star Tours in that Star Tours uses more intense motion (all that jerking around :bounce: ) to simulate flight, while Soarin' relies more what you see. The film is made in a way that really makes you feel like you are flying, but really you're not hardly moving--just slightly tilting from one side to the other. If you close your eyes, it feels like you're sitting in a chair, with your feet hanging over the edge, of course. ;)

Wade,

Your kids will LOVE it! My mom is the biggest chicken when it comes to rides and she LOVES it and she thinks that Alice in Wonderland jerks her around too much!
You don't have to use your arms or any other part of your body. You just sit down in the seat and pull the seat belt over your legs. It is a smooth and enjoyable ride.

You and the kids DEFINITELY have to do it!

Have a great time on your vacation!

BTW - I can't think of one single instance where anyone said that they didn't like it. I know that there is never anyone throwing up or looking sick outside the ride...just a lot of bright, smiling faces!

Soarin' wil be perfect for your kids. Besides seat belts there are car-seat like (over the chest) restraints that you are supposed to use if your head doesn't come up to the line (my 7 and 10 year olds used those.) Even if your kids are a bit taller, you could use them if you/they feel the need for more security.

<font color=navy>Just to add to the seat belts - there is a strap between your legs that you can hook to the seat belt for the younger kids, too, to hold them in place.

If you want to stay low to the ground, sit in the back (third) row. But, if that isn't a major concern, get in the front row for the best view.

Enjoy :)
