For the past couple of weeks Soarin has been down to one screen.
So expect Standby to be extra long and FP distribution to sell out faster.

They are refurbing one screen at a time. So when the one screen is done, they will close the other one and re-open this one. CMs said to expect the ride to be down to one screen for a while. But I don't know if the refurb time would extend all the way into Oct....

There is an official refurb scheduled Sept 5-7 I believe. Hopefully they will finish up the second screen during those few days since the ride will be completely down.

At park open on 8/24, the CM announced that they would be down to one screen for "the next few months."

Now... that could be an incorrectly informed CM... or it could be Disney under-promising so they can over-deliver. But those are the specific words that were used.

If you can be at Soarin' about 10-15 minutes before rope drop, it may be best to ride it first thing (esp. if you have MaxPass and can book your next FP while waiting). If they are not using the queue before rope drop, and the line is not yet all the way back to the circle, then your wait should be less than 45 minutes.

Yeah, we rode it yesterday in the morning with no problem but when we tried it again about 5:30 the standby was 120 and even the FP line was insane. Even though we had a fast pass we decided to skip it as we had an upcoming dinner reservation. While we were trying to decide a CMmade an overhead announcement that they would be down to one theatre "until October".

You are probably right. Well, another thing to add to my black hole week in September.

How long is the fastpass line within the first couple hours of opening?

The Fastpass line is long due to having only one screen, guests taking a while to scan their park tickets for FP.
FPs are now lasting about as long a Guardians and Racers. Not uncommon

When I was there in August 14 to 18, Soarin ran out of fastpasses before any other DCA FP ride including Guardians and RSR and both screens were working. I was getting Guardians FP till around 4, they may have lasted longer but I stopped looking after that. Soarin seemed to run out by 2 or 3.

Are you sure that both screens were working at that point? In early Aug, we picked up a second set of Soarin FP at 1:12 p.m. and our time was 3:15-4:15 p.m. (I saved our paper FP reminders.) Even assuming that was a slow day, that seems like a huge difference.

I'm pretty sure it was already down to one screen at that point.

Yup, I just checked my photos and the 14th is actually the day I chatted with the CM there about being down to one screen.

I thought both were open, but upon further thought maybe not. They directed us to the left side very quickly that I didn't notice that they weren't filling both sides We only went once and had a maxpass for it and went to the left right away. Didn't have to stand at all

Mea Culpa, I thought I had seen people going to both sides. We only went on it once during our visit.

Soarin' wait time is 105 min right now and TSMM is 120 min. Is that normal for the "off season". Seems awfully high even with one theater being down...

I'm looking now and Soarinis at 95 min, which with only one theater looks reasonable. And TSMM is a posted 45. My guess is the after school/work crowd had just hit when you were looking.

We were there this weekend and ended up using MP to get a FP return time however while halfway through the FP line , it was announced they were at half capacity and then technical difficulties so they reimbursed all the FP holders.
We never got a chance to go ride it this weekend but one thing about MaxPass is that it automaticlaly added a " Multiple experience" option for later use including Soarin' - so if other FP attractions went down Soarin' could still be used later so that could potentially add longer waits too.

I think your app had a bug. I was there from 4:00 on and those times don't seem accurate. It was pretty dead this afternoon - everything but the headliners were total walk-ons, and those were under an hour even with Grizzly down (which was unfortunate in the heat). I think TSMM was about 50 minutes around 5:00 when we checked...

I kept closing the app and restarting it because I didn't believe it either! Glad to hear that wasn't true.

That must've happened the 14th. We were there the week before and both sides of Soarin' were operating.

When we were there this summer we thought we'd ride Soarin' first thing to avoid the line since even the FP wait is long on that one. Well we waited close to 30 minutes and there were not many people in line. They had only opened one side at that time and were only loading the middle row. There were not enough CM working the attraction. Just as we got to the front of the line another CM came and that time they loaded 2/3 of the theater. CRAZY! We would not have waited if we'd known that we would have had to wait that long.

What is the best strategy for Soarin' right now then with 1 screen up. Is trying standby first thing the best idea or trying for a FP?
