Soarin..Do you love it?

... Finally a post that pulled me out of lurk mode...

Yeah, I was moderately underwhelmed by Soarin' when we rode last year. But, I don't mind that other people like it enough to stand in line for it rather than the other things we're trying to get on/in to. ;)

Have thought the airline theme and its location fairly close to World Showcase absolutely screams for a film that highlights the countries you are about to encounter. Seems like flying over Paris and past the Eiffel Tower, or sweeping past a German castle would enhance the overall experience, and maybe provide a bit of a mental bridge between the two sections of the park.

Nice point re what the video could be. Like I said earlier, I think Soarin' is a great ride insofar as it demonstrates Disney's ability to still make compelling attractions that aren't drawn from movies; but I do agree that it also feels like something that is "almost, but not yet there" in terms of becoming truly historic. Things that are keeping it from that category include the current video selection. But my understanding is that it took a LOT of $$$ to make that video -- those shots are real folks and took expensive aerial work -- and thus they're hesitant to do another one.

The first time I rode, I was in the middle of the top row and loved it. It hasn't been quite the same since, but I still act like a kid, swinging my feet and getting caught up in the magic of "flying." I wouldn't wait an hour, but in the good old days I always rode twice with FP.

Not sure what it is, but Soarin' makes me so happy I get tears. I know I'll get flamed for this but I honestly don't enjoy World Showcase that much. Guess that's not totally true...last trip I enjoyed the Holiday Storytellers but I have read numerous posts where folks say they like to just walk around WS.....I don't get it.

It seems like it would not be hard to redo the movie and do a Florida Theme...You could still use the orange and pine scent...and it would be cool to have a snapping gator coming at you to make you lift your feet up.

I love Soarin, it's beautiful and fun. I haven't ridden TT in 10 years because to me when I rode it last I was like..."yeah so what, ride around a track going 50 mph. I drive my car 80 on the highway" :rotfl2: It's been a long time so I need to try it again since it's refurb but I won't wait in a really long line for either of them I don't think, but I'd FP Soarin over TT :)

It was fun the first time we did it at EP in 2010...then kind of lame when we did the exact same ride at DCA in 2012...and now we're back in 2014 and I'll book a FP+ for it but only to use them up. I wouldn't be bothered if we missed it. (And the ONLY reasons we are even going to EP this trip are because Hubby wants to do SE, I want to try out Karamel Kuche in Germany, and we love club cool).

I can take it or leave it.

I LOVE Soarin! It is a must do for me every trip. I won't wait for hours to ride it, but I either use FP or rope drop to ride it. :hyper:

If there was ever an overrated attraction this is it....won't stand in line with 20 or less minutes of a wait time and if I don't get to do it I don't lose any sleep over it. Not a must do for me. Corkscrew Hill/Curse of Dark Kastle are two rides that come to mind that do what Soarin' tries to accomplish much better.

I love Soarin. I don't think its overrated. But I won't wait in line for 2 hours for it anymore

I think you could ask the same question about just about every attraction at WDW! Some people will like it, some people won't. Some people will "get it," some people won't. That's part of what makes WDW appealing to so many people - different strokes for different folks.

For me, the "I just don't get it" attraction is Fantasmic. I saw it once and wasn't wowed, but i know lots of people love it. But I could ride Soarin' over and over, many times on the same day. I feel the same about TSM! Those are my two "repeat rides.":)

I know that everybody has different tastes and different favorites when it comes to rides, but is there anybody else out there who just doesn't quite get the huge appeal of Soarin? Don't get me wrong, I think the ride is nice and pleasant and all, and if I can get a fast pass and get on in 5 or 10 minutes I think it's great, but I just don't understand it's huge following. It kind of seems like your lifted off the ground and watch a short IMAX movie with some mild wind and aroma effects. Again, I'm not attacking the ride or anything, just trying to figure out what it is about the experience that makes people wait in line for an hour or two.:confused3

Well, I don't wait in line for 'anything' for an hour or two!

But, having said that, Soarin' is our absolute favorite at Epcot (but always with a FP.

I can't tell you exactly why I love it, but I do. I am a ride chicken so soarin is a good fit for me. I feel like I am flying without the fear!

The ride really makes me crave an orange Dole Whip, for some reason...

Honestly, though? I like it well enough while I'm riding, and it fills a niche for a gentle but engaging ride, but I don't feel a great emotional connection to it or anything. I enjoy Test Track more. And the best attraction in The Land pavilion is the dessert case at Sunshine Seasons anyway, haha.

I love Soarin'. The wind, the scents. Even so, I won't wait more than 20 minutes for it and always either ride it right at RD or use a FP, or both if I want to ride it twice.

The one I don't get is TSMM. It's fun, but I don't get the mass stampede for it.

It was fun when it first came out. Now, it just seems outdated. The first lift off is fun and it's a cute movie.

I absolutely love it! I wouldn't mind if they spruced up the screen and maybe changed the movie to a flight around Florida, but all in all it's a must-do for us. :)

I love it but after seeing it probably over 100 times it's not as intense a love as it once was.I would hope a new movie is made for it in the next 2 years, however a Florida theme would not be the best idea,Florida is not as picturesque as California. Some guy on Youtube actually has a Soarin over Florida video showing areas of the state with the Soarin music. The music of the ride however I have not gotten tired of,just like the Illuminations music soundtrack,I could listen to those forever!!!Here's the video of Soarin over Florida, and oh yeah he finishes the video at Universal!!
