Soaked on POTC!

I certainly wouldn't skip it if I were you; just ask to sit in the 3rd row, where I imagine you should be fine! :thumbsup2 It's such a wonderful, classic ride!

Oh yes it's one of my favorites!!! I will make sure to ask for 3rd row :)

YIKES! Good to know. We didn't get wet in June or November, but rode in the back both times. Will avoid the front row. I, too, wouldn't have been happy in the OP shoes. Glad CM was able to help. I agree with PP who mentioned a sign noting due to ride/boat change, you would now be more likely to get wet.

Since they are no longer loading the back row in the boats the front couple of rows are not balanced making the bow front heavy.

I rode in October of this year and the first 3 rows got completely soaked.

There was a TON of water sloshing around in the bottom of the boat.

This ride is no longer the pirates ride from days past. We couldn't stop talking about it afterwords. A CM in the gift shop explained to us it was the new boats combined with the no loading of the back row. We did not ask for any assistance with the wet clothes. It was our last ride of the night before we were going back to the room.

Only go on Pirates if you plan on getting REALLY WET, because you will.

As a person who has been visiting WDW for over 20 years and has ridden Pirates are more times than I can count, I have to say that a sign isn't going to do diddly for me. I've ridden Pirates before and gotten splashed here and there. If I saw a sign that said I might get wet, I'd think that someone who got splashed complained because they were hoping to get something for free and managements solution was to put up a sign. I would not think that the ride suddenly changed to where I was going to have a Splash Mountain experience. I'd have to see something on the sign that stated something to the tune of, "Due to recent changes in attraction equipment, please be prepared to get wet or possibly even soaked while riding Pirates of the Caribbean." I'd need to see that changes to the ride had been made before I thought that I actually had a chance of getting more than a little splash.

I agree! Thus was my 30+ visit in over 35 years. I've ride. This at least 50 times. I need more of a heads up if the change is that significant

Complete agree with everything said here. We have rode pirates many times and never got wet. We rode in the front row yesterday (4 adults) and the whole front row filled with water. We were soaked head to toe dripping wet in smelly water :( even our shoes filled with water. The CMs should have at least warned us. Don't ride in the front row!!!

Oh yuck!

POTC is one of my favorites but I do not want to get soaked on it.

When did the boats change over? We were there last November and were seated in the middle row and didn't get wet.

I know they've been changed for a while but you sure don't get that wet on every ride. DH and I rode on Friday last week, front row. We didn't even get a splash.

I'm glad it worked out for you!

I had read about people getting wet on it a few months ago so When I was put in the front row of POTC - I sat right in the middle - pulled out my poncho and laid it over me and my backpack and lifted my feet a bit when we went down that little hill. I was solo.

The couple behind me were laughing about it until they got wet and I managed to avoid most of it.
This was also on MVMCP night this December.

We didn't get wet either.

They must have some way to raise/lower the water levels. It can't be only due to weight in the boat.

Goodness knows DH and I weigh more than enough to have cause the front of the boat to go deeper in the water than your avg. pair of guests. Or even pair of guests with kids. There is some reason we didn't get even a splash and others are soaked to the bone, 3 rows deep.

Haha what about the cannons in the first scene?! Anybody else get completely doused by the cannon on the right just before the curve? I was surprised and thought it was just poor timing because the water from the cannons had never splashed the boat before (this was in July).

Why are they no longer loading the back row?

There is no official word from Disney but it is likely because two separate passengers who were sitting in the back row ended up with lacerated fingers after dangling their fingers into the water while on the ride.

As an aside: Please keep all hands and feet inside the ride vehicle until the ride has come to a complete stop!

Sorry that you got wet when not expecting it, and on a cold night. Impressive with how they handled it. I also got 2 pretty big splashes during the ride...and I was sitting about 6 rows back, but on the right side.

We were there in November this year and ended up in the front row. Two adults, two little kids. The people in the row behind us (4 adults) warned us that we might get soaked in our row because they did last time they rode in the front. I was NOT ready to get wet because it was cold and I had on jeans and sneakers! So when we went down the drop my hubby and I leaned back as far as possible. :) Anyway, maybe it had to do with the weight distribution (our little ones don't weigh much, and there were adults in the back rows) because we just got misted a tiny bit. I felt like I dodged a bullet though!

Was there last night...didn't notice anyone getting noticably wet but I wouldn't be happy if we got soaked...didnotice last rows had no riders.

It's kinda hard to tell they aren't using the back row. The seat back is the back of the boat so it sort of looks like it was never a seat. If you know and look it's more obvious

This really sucks...I love that ride but don't even want to chance it if we may get wet! I've been to Disney world countless times in my 36 years and have never ridden Splash or Kali Rapids bc of the chance of getting wet!! Even on warm days, I can't stand wet clothes!! We are going in mid-January...my kids would hate getting wet too :sad2:

Can you refuse to sit in the front? If not, I'll probably add this to my won't ride list.

I had a similar soaking incident. I have rose pirates time after time including front row. I don't know of the cast member just wasn't paying attention but when they loaded our boat it was packed even though it was so slow. It also had a lot of heavier people on one side compared to the other. As soon as it started you could hear the motor or something, a loud humming sound. We went to turn the corner and start going into the fake water fall, our boat couldn't make the corner! It started to severely tilt one way. Everyone on the boat was yelling to move to the other side! After that it finally made the corner. The drop was up. A grown man in the back was yelling "I'm done! I'm done" I want off but the ride didn't stop. I was so nervous to go down the plung! We went and we were splash mountain soaked! After we talked to the manager. It was our last night in MK and it was cold out! We also expressed our concerns with what had happened. They said they got new boats. I asked how new they were and she said a year...I have rode pirates many times in the last year and have never had a similar problem. She was really nice and even tho we never got rude, asked for anything, she wrote us no strings attached cards. We got free sweat pants and a blanket. That was pretty nice of them!
