So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight!! Who's with me?

I really hope Melissa and Ade go home next week.
I was sad to see Randi go because I thought she deserved to be there more than Melissa.
But boy am I glad to see Kupono go. I can't believe he lasted longer than Max.

Ade's solo was technically strong, especially the control of his pirouettes (WOW!). I'm not a huge fan of Ade's, because I don't really "connect" with him that much, but there is no denying his technique is wonderful.

I'll admit I cheered a little when Melissa was announced as the other girl in the Bottom 2. Hopefully next week she can go!

Kupono and Randi leaving was not really heartbreaking - I didn't feel that either were really amazing.

I like Melissa but I think she should go home next if she does not step it up. I love Ballet and understand that the dancers can and should stay in their own genre during the solo, but for Heaven's sake! Her solo is like a video....I've seen it before, I don't want the rerun.
I completely agree. I'm sick of seeing Melissa's solos. There isn't anything special about them.

I have a theory that Randi was lucky to be paired with Evan for so long, as he had quite the fan base that kept them out of the bottom three.

I agree about Melissa...she will be gone soon.

Ade's solos confuse me...they just look like he's jumping up and down.

Kupono's time had come and hopefully Ade's will be soon.

I was excited to see the emmy nominated dances from last year. So many great ones last year. It was cool to see Dimitri's dance nominated. And they picked the ones I loved from last year - the door dance with Twitch and Katie and keep bleeding with Mark and Chelsea. Every time I hear that song I think of that hip hop dance.

I think those dances were great, but two of the most memorable for me were:

Katee & Joshua dancing hip hop to No Air
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNlKPAX4qtg

Courtney & Mark dancing Jazz to The Garden.

And I was very sad to see Randi go. I was hoping very very badly that they would call Melissa's name. I've liked Randi from the beginning.

Agree with who went home, no :scared1: here. But...please when is Evan going to get the boot???? He is totally out of his league and yes he may be 'cute' in a dwarfish loser type of way but seriously....buhbye!!!!!!

I'm happy with who went home, too. And, sorry folks, but I love Melissa and was glad that she survived. I also really like Evan; I voted for both of them. Only once, but still . . .

As far as Evan in the waltz - remember that they just threw him into heels - he wasn't wearing them during the rehearsals they filmed. How long does it take a woman to learn to dance in heels?? I'm sure his balance was off. I loved the fact that he kept the twinkle in his eye during the African dance, keeping his sense of humor when he really could have freaked out.

Interested to see what happens next week!

Oh. My. Goodness.

I don't think I have ever cried over a dance. Until tonight. I was sobbing half way though Ade and Melissa's dance about breast cancer. Then I didn't stop until the commercial. I thought it was very strange that I while was such a blubbery mess over it and the judges were such a blubbery mess over it ... the audience ... was completely dry eyed. Were the girls just too afraid to smudge their make-up or are they simply too young to be moved by it?

Tonight's dances were terrible, up until Jeanine and Brandon pulled themselves (and the rest of the evening) out of the toilet.

Though I must say having Ellen on the show added some hilarity to the night. She was so great.

But boy was I floored during the Melissa and Ade's breast cancer dance.
I didn't know at first whether to be offended or touched.
But as it went on I was more touched than anything else.
It was very powerful (heck it made Dr. Nigel Lythgow (sp?) cry).

But other than that routine nothing fantastic about to night, very long...
Tomorrow's show looks promising :]

My favs:
Jaenine and Jason.

My least favs:
Brandon, Ade, Kayla, and Melissa.

I am ok with everyone else but not thrilled with them...

For some reason, it bothers me to an extent when the choreographers give a piece with such a personal and strong back story for competition. I almost feel like I'm being manipulated, and then you really can't judge the dancing because it's not about the dancing in a piece like this. The thing is, it's a dance competition! Granted, Ade and Melissa danced it beautifully, but I still feel like I'm being manipulated to an extent. And I really hate when they give us the backstories. I would rather watch the dance and come up with my own ideas as to what it means to me. But that's just me.

I cried too, but I am not sure if i was crying because of the dance or because I saw other people crying (I'm that type of person!)

I know a PP enjoyed having Ellen on the show, but she really didn't add anything of value with her comments. Was she funny? At time, but I could of done without her.

I liked Brandon and Jeanine's Battlefield number. Nigel was raving about Shane Sparks' hip hop number at the end and one of the judges was saying it was his best - guess they forgot about the one he did with Benji & can't remember the girl's name (I can see her face, but can't remember her name) - that one to me was his best!

Can't wait for tonight's show!!!:cool1:

I never watch the dances more than once but this time I had to watch it again. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cancer is so personal. These two dancers were able to capture those emotions that people struggle with while they battle this horrendous disease. I enjoyed the performances in the second half of the show but for me, this dance was literally the showstopper.

I can respect that you feel this way but I feel that not every dancer could have taken that piece to the level these two did. I think it was a make or break piece, if it was not danced well those two dancers would have been in the bottom. This piece gave the dancers the opportunity to rise and shine or fall and flop. Melissa and Ade took that dance, let their emotions carry their moves because they became part of the story. I am not a dancer, could not even begin to have an intelligent discussion concerning the technical difficulty of any given dance genre, but I know when a dancer hit it. These two dancers hit it. I have to wonder If Evan had gotten that piece, would he have been able to move me the way Ade did? Would Jeannette have had the strength to put herself in the position of a woman battling such an invasive disease? I am not sure. The dance may have been good but I am not sure those two dancers would have compelled me to rewind my DVR.

I agree that Ellen is funny but I was not sure why she was there. When she stopped telling jokes and just commented on how she liked the dance, it was much better.

Before watching last night's episode, I was predicting/hoping Melissa would leave, and thinking that Ade and Evan would probably be the bottom 2 guys (I like both, but Ade was weak last week, and Evan's getting picked on a lot).

I agree completely that the first half of the show was just kind of blah. Nothing stood out to me as a great dance, except for the opening number which I loved!

I think Melissa and Ade did do a wonderful job with the breast cancer routine, however I do agree with monkey68. Routines like that one (and the one Jean marc Genereux did last season for his daughter, and the one Mia did about her father, etc) are beautiful, and the dancers will get votes for it regardless of how America feels about the dancer who actually performed the piece.

I'm a bit lost as to who I think will be in the bottom now. I think Melissa will get a lot of votes for the Tyce routine, but I hated her solo and her ChaCha. Same for Ade (except he at least has entertaining solos).

Janette always does a great job, and I think Mia saying she is her favorite girl probably helped her too. Then again maybe it won't, but I think a lot of viewers respect the judges' opinions, and if one says Janette is her favorite, it probably doesn't hurt her votes!

Evan.. I think he is cute, and is very fun and a good performer, but I'm not really impressed with him like I was in the beginning. I wouldn't mind if he went home.

Jeannine (and Brandon) were so-so in the waltz *(Anyone else try to rack their brains of where that was heard on SYTYCD earlier? It was used in Vegas week!). Although I think both really shone in the Battlefield routine.

Kayla is definitely an outstanding dancer and I wouldn't like to see her go. She and Jason did well in both of their routines last night. If I had to pick one couple who actually entertained me in both their routines, this would be it.

I still want Melissa to go home because I am not a fan in most of her other routines, so I don't think this one routine should save her butt. Evan or Ade leaving wouldn't really bother me.

I love the other 3 girls, so it'll be really hard to pick my Top 4 dancers for the finale, but definitely Brandon and Jason for the guys!

Having a story to a dance may not be usual for a dance competition, but it certainly is for ballet. (Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty or Nutcracker, anyone?) Which may be one of the reasons that Melissa nailed it so beautifully - she's been trained to become the character she dances. Dancers trained in other styles? Not so much. And certainly her maturity worked for her in this piece.

And I have to agree with Nancyg - I'm not sure how many other dancers could have brought that kind of emotionality into the dance, along with beautiful technique. Perhaps Brandon could have, but I don't think any of the other girls could have done it justice.

As far as going home, I think it's pretty clear that Evan's days are numbered. I think he is phenomenal as a Broadway dancer, but that's about it for him. And I personally hope that Kayla leaves. For some reason, she always appears stuck up and arrogant to me - I get a "Mean Girls" vibe from her.

Tonight should be fun, with the 100th episode, too. Maybe we can be spared the Rock Group of the Moment this time!

I had Melissa picked to go home until the Tyce routine with Ade. That was AMAZING. Ade is so incredibly strong, and their emotional performance just blew me away. I also loved the Battlefield routine (though I HATE that song, ugh), but Brandon is my favorite guy anyway.

I think Evan is probably going home tonight (even though I love to watch him!). I honestly don't know for the girls. I've predicted correctly every other week, but this time I am flummoxed. They are all so strong.

Is tonight's show really only one hour? That's how it's listed in the paper, but from the various things they have planned I would not think everything would fit in that time frame.

Having gone through breast cancer (and chemo) 2 years ago, I was really emotional through that dance. It truly captured how I felt and how my husband took care of me (chemo and I did not get along well). And yet, I also feel that dances like that are not fair to the other contestants. They danced it beautifully but I still feel that Melissa is the most limited of the girls and should be the next to go. However, how many people picked up the phones last night and voted for her strictly on that performance without looking at everything through this season.

As far as the guys, Evan is cute and adorable but he's the weakest male dancer and should be the next to go. I'm sure he will not be though as this is America's favorite dancer rather than America's best dancer.

The only bad thing about that beautiful piece of art that Ade and Melissa danced is that Ade will more than likely be around for another week. I have not liked his dancing from the beginning, he is technically a good dancer but there is just something missing.

That was choreographed and executed beautifully...it would have looked ridiculous with any of the other couples dancing it.

Mia must have taken her nice pills last night. :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

I can't figure out why they had Ellen on.....she seemed very uncomfortable.

Mary's new train whistle made us giggle.

Most of the dances were a big old mess so it will be hard to figure out who is going home.

We tried calling in for a few....some were busy and some kept connecting me to a conference call company. :sad2:

question for the posters on this thread.....

During the begining didnt Mia always say she thought Brandon was overrated and basically didnt like him?? Last night she really complimented him on his dancing and strength ability. Was this the first time she was so positive or had she done it before. (I have missed a few shows)

Thanks
