Does anyone remember how Noelle was injured when she was partnered with Russell? I love Russell so I'm not picking on him, but this is his second partner to be injured. I wonder if he's holding them/doing something improperly and causing them to be injured?

I believe it was stated that she is a self-admitted klutz and just tripped or something. I do not believe it was a lift as that was not mentioned as I recall. I did google and all I Can find is that it was a foxtrot they were rehearsing adn that the injury was a very severe sprain to the ACL. Also found out that Noelle and to do a lot of intense begging to be able to continue the season and that included doing a series of tests without complaining. Since I do recall them focusing on her klutziness when they spoke about her injury, I'm not sure we can blame Russel's inexperience.

Another google found this recap from the following week where they discussed likes and dislikes:

I was watching the routine for the possible offending lift and it looked like it woudn't have been anything out of the ordinary that one could cite Russell for. They appeared to me lifts that depended upon gripping/holding the arms--and if that is the case, it could have just been a freak thing that popped her arm out of the socket. It could have been inexperience, but it could also have been that Ashleigh's shoulder did not like that particular lift.

I've been quite the opposite of a Ryan fan all along, but like I said, I do try to objectively watch & let each dancer prove to me what they can do. I agree he should have left sooner, but I have to be honest & say he has had some good moments. That said, IMO he must go no higher than 5th place. I can live w/ him remaining when Legacy leaves, but logically can't believe he can in any way beat out either Russell or Jakob.

As for knowing about dance, don't let my high powered career in the entertainment industry fool you. My credentials consist of being a dance mom(roadie) for more than a decade now & spending more time than I care to remember at competitions, quite often bored out of my skull. I've just really enjoyed this thread a lot because it is fun to get feedback other than what I do from my DD's, dancers I know & my dance mom friends whose opinions are framed from many of the same influences as mine. It's kind of neat to try to open your mind & see if you can view what others see.

Kudos to you for making it all the way through my previous post! It was written on little sleep and even less caffeine (I was also, admittedly, a little grumpy). Hopefully neither of them have the fan base to pull off a win.

I don't follow SYTYCD outside of the show and this thread, but do they say ahead of time who the choreographers will be?

Same here. And haven't we heard it said enough times, even last week, how it would be such a shame for either of the married couple to go home before we could see them dance TOGETHER. DD and I have been predicting for WEEKS, since the first time the judges said a comment like that, that it would be fixed for them to dance together in the finale. If Ashleigh "drew" Ryan for next week, dd is going to think I am psychic.

And in the end, it IS part of the contract the dancers sign, that the producers can override the votes to alter results.Same as American Idol.

ETA: I meant to delete the "override the votes" when I typed in "alter results." I don't know if they do that by overriding the votes, or if they just mean earlier in the season when the judges make all the decisions.

I know AI introduced the "save" and SYTYCD starts out with the bottom 3 having to dance and then judges decide who will go. But they both constantly state that it is the viewers who decide.

All I can find is that they can change the rules, but nothing about changing the voting if they don't like the results. The only thing I found is that they have systems in place to catch "power voting" and that they can remove those votes....but outside of that, nothing that states that they can override results they don't like.

Honestly, I think if it was given to the best dancer it would have to be given to Jakob. But I know it is "favorite" and so that could make it go to Russell. But really, after many seasons, I do think Jakob is one of the best.

There was line on both links at the top that stated that rules can change at producers discretion. Perhaps that is hwat she was referring to.

it is. DH actually knows 3 people who made it to Vegas (not all the same season though). Only one of them got 2 SECONDS of air time, lol. She was actually cut at the END of Vegas week, and you could just see her in the very background once.

Does anyone else think it's funny that they were making a HUGE deal about Paula Abdul judging this season and having her chair there for a couple of weeks and everything? I wonder why she never showed up. They quit talking about it too.

Me too. He makes my blood curdle and that is not easy to do. I hated pity vote for Ashleigh thing he did. This is my new best reason that there should not be couples on these shows. The dancing gets lost in the back story that I really do not want to know about.

Maybe the show manipulated it so that the 'couple' would be in the finals together..you never know

FWIW--I felt what Ryan did was inappropriate. Just my $.02. It would be different if he was the same sex as she and essentially giving up a slot, but he is not. Ashleigh got an unfair advantage if you will--by having someone supporting her having the ability to take up mic time to do it. No other contestant has that. I have no issue with a married couple--or any other relative--but I do not think it is fair and should be against the rules to permit that behavior. The other contestants are left with their cheering sections and the posters they bring and depend on a random camera.

That is what was so sleazy about his act. He was not asking the audience to vote for her instead of him. He was asking them to eliminate someone else for her that was not fair. I do not think the producers should have let him do that and I hated them showing him on his knees crying.

Playing up to the married couple all season long has annoyed me in that I felt it detracted from the other dancers and their ability. Showcasing the titillation of a married man or woman and the chemistry that they create with another partner is creepy.

I felt so sorry for Mollee! Especially when Adam Shankman kept going on and on about Kathryn after Mollee had just learned that she had been eliminated. Talk about pouring salt into a wound!

I really feel that Ashleigh got the sympathy vote, pure and simple.

I am so tired of Adam and his commentary. He made it clear that he thought that Ashleigh deserved to be part of the voting process, was incredibly verbal about her performances and then was surprised to see Mollee go. Then he cannot even focus on her...he is a case of too much mouth running wild

Did anyone else feel that Nigel doomed Mollie when he told her to go to Broadway? I almost felt like the was dismissing her from the show. I thought right then she'd be in trouble, but I really didn't expect her to go home (and I do think she'd be fantastic on Broadway).

No, I was actually thinking the same thing as she danced. She reminded me of those old movies and the wonderful choreography that was incorporated into those musicals. She was a shining star as she danced that routine and really would become a leading lady on Broadway, IMO.

Totally agree. I haven't read this thread up until now, and I'm suprised at the Russell hype. I don't see it.

I'm assuming that even though it's six instead of four, they will each be dancing with each other. If my math is right, that makes 15 dances and then maybe one with the three girls and one with the three guys?

I read an article online where Nigel talks about the finale format since they are short one week this year. Unfortunately I couldn't make heads or tails out of his A's, B's & C's or wasn't reading carefully enough to understand. I'm pretty sure 15 is too many routines to present tonight, I also believe solos will be performed by each.
