I will go. And if DH complains about the airfare expense, I will remind him that it is cheaper to buy 1 plane ticket than 2.

We were hoping to go for our 25th anniversary in 2011, but will probably need to wait until August 2012- we went to Hawaii on our honeymoon, would REALLY like to go back!

We also went to Hawaii on our honeymoon and were hoping to get back there this year for our 15th wedding anniversary. Unhappily, that didn't happen but we can now plan on spending our 20th at Aulani in 2015, providing I can get a reservation at 7 months out and the points aren't too bad.

We're already saving up whatever airline miles we can -- I think we'll be able to get three tickets and just have to pay for one. Last time I checked, I thought it was between 600-800 dollars rt from Chicago, so flying the 4 of us (DH, me, DS and DD) for 800 dollars wouldn't be too bad. That's assuming that the airlines continue their mileage programs.....

DH is starting to feel a bit "Disneyed out" because we are just back from DLP and will be doing a DCL/WDW trip later this year.

So, I've agreed to save up our points so we can visit Hawaii in 2012 or 2013. I think by then he may be ready for a stop-over at DL too!

I live on the west coast, but flights to Florida are much cheaper, which is why we head to Florida every summer. We plan on doing DVC in Hawaii once it opens, but still plan on spending most of our points in Florida. Can't afford Hawaii as often as I can afford Florida.

Maybe the stupidest one! I've also started taking each kid on their own special trip when they are six years old. My niece that is five is wanting WDW and a cruise for her trip next year.

For those of you leery about the plane flight my guide was telling me that they may make one of the new Disney cruise ships do regularly scheduled runs to Hawaii. Also there is a large (mostly unused) harbor just south of Aulani called Kalaeloa Harbor. Oh BTW guess what ship is in that Harbor right now... I'd like to tell you, but then, dead men tell no tales!

As for me I live only a 10 miles from Aulani but I may still use some of my points to house friends/relatives that come to visit. We'll see how rediculous the point structure is...

We are planning on going for our 25th anniversary in 2013. The only problem will be 1 kid in college, and one just graduating from HS (so on his way to college), plus one still in HS. We will NOT be taking the kids. They weren't there for the wedding, so not going to celebrate the milestone

I just signed my contracts for a add-on and on the last page of the purchase agreement it says disneys hawaii resort is only a possible component resort and may never be added to DVC multi-site timeshare plan, it also says not to purchase an interest in DVC with the hopes of this being added to the multi-site plan. Does this mean our points owned at other dis home resorts can't be used at the 7 month mark in Hawaii?

No.

There has been similar language when other DVC resorts have been under construction. In each case, the new resort has been added to the DVC system, allowing existing DVC members to book at the 7-month mark.

It's legal language. I suppose there's the 1% chance that Disney will start a separate DVC system just for Hawaii, or sell the resort to another company before completion, or make the whole resort into a hotel, with no timeshare part. On second thought, make that a .001% chance.

Count us in!!!! We hope to go there in 2012 and plan on buying some points there as well. I have been waiting for a Disney owned resort in Hawaii for the past 11 years...my dream is coming true!!!

Then the thought of taking a cruise to Hawaii on DCL even makes me happier...guess my pixie dust is finally working!!!

Disney + DVC + Hawaii = Happiness beyond compare!!!

Been to Hawaii several times prior to having kids and now we are actually at the point where we've been wanting to head over to the islands as a family for the past year or so. Waiting for Disney to open and have a Magical, kid-friendly resort is a no-brainer for us....

This is correct. It's basically just language that protects them incase, for whatever reason, they decide to scrap the Hawaii project, or determine that it makes more sense for them to do something other than DVC with it... or even if there is some unforeseen reason why they can't build a resort there...

At this point, it seems unlikely since they've actually started pouring concrete and have real structures in place. But it's possible that they might even think up of a better use for the rooms there than DVC.

I really hope not though... it would be nice to be able to hit up Hawaii every 3-5 years or so as a distraction from my usual semi-annual WDW trips.

Looking to go in 2012 - wil be having one of those Big-0 birthdays that year so will need a LOT of sunshine to make me feel not so bad!!!
As we will be coming over from the UK - now that's gonna be a long flight, 15 hours flying time!!! - and I figure that its going to be too expensive points wise to stay there for much more than a week we will be looking to add on a City stop over on the way back. Where do people think we should see? San Francisco, Vancover??? We went to LA and San Diego a few years back so would probably want to try somewhere else.
