We rented out half of our of our 2005 and all of our 2006 points to cover part of the costs of the
Disney Cruise. Having serious WDW withdrawl, we ended up borrowing from 2007 to cover our "before school starts trip" to SSR just last month. I now am looking to rent points to cover our Christmas/New Years trip in 2007/2008. I have been in this position before (always in borrow mode).
We have 160 annual points. We ended up renting some points from another member last summer, also. Some may say we need to just cough up the money and buy more points. However, with our children's school and academic/extra-curricular schedules, it gets harder and harder to plan way in advance (more than 5 mos), and to justifiy purchasing more points w/the additional maintenance fees (if we can't use the points).
Just having the option of renting points when you need them (maybe more than once in a use year) was really nice. We, for one, will definately miss it. I'm not saying I don't think it's justified to enforce the rule, just that we will miss taking the advantage of being able to do more than once in a use-year, if necessary.
I do feel like this benefit is abused. I just am bummed that those of us who use it once in a while to enhance the opportunities of our membership will perhaps endure some difficulties.
I do think we're in the minority, tho, and the change is for the benefit of the whole.
