So why can't DVC contracts be gifted?

If we can put them in our will, why can't they be gifted?
 
Whoever said you cannot give them to someone else? They can with a caveat -- you can't do it easily for a contract that has a loan attached. That is a condition of the Disney loan -- it is non-transferable without Disney's permission and thus you cannot make a gift to someone else without paying off the loan in full or getting Disney's express agreement to transfer the loan. If there is no loan attached you can transfer by gift although you will need to assure that proper real estate documentation is taken care of -- e.g., new deed and recording of it. Disney's right of first refusal is inapplicable to the situation as it applies only to sales of your interest not gifts.
