I think the Democrats would be crazy to run Hillary. I think the Repubicans should run McCain and the Democrats should run Lieberman. Who do you think the parties should run, and who do you think they shouldn;t run?

Democrats will run Barack Obama, and Republicans will run Rudi Guiliani.

I know I sound like a broken record, but PLEASE, for the love of GOD, NOT MCCAIN!!!!

Repeat after me...sitting Senators do not win Presidencies.

Do you honestly think the South will vote to put a Jewish person in the White House?

Well, Deb that would certainly be an exciting race to watch! It would produce some very interesting voting patterns and probably a lot of agonizing over the decision from voters who usually find the choice pretty easy.

I don't think McCain/Lieberman would be much of a contest -- McCain would win hands down. Although I think Lieberman is a decent guy, the Dems have to have a candidate that's a little more exciting and a lot less from the Northeast to win IMO.

I think Hillary may run, but I don't see her getting the nomination. I'm sure she can't win in a general election.

Let's not pick on the South. OK, let's do pick on the South but also on the Midwest, Utah, etc. Are we ready for a Jewish man? Are we ready for a black man? Are we ready for a woman? Lieberman lost. Liddy Dole didn't get very far. I'm not sure the race issue has been tested since the previous candidates were not mainstream.

This is what I posted on another topic of when a minority would be running & win the White House:

I have a feeling Hiliary Clinton will be running for the White House in 2008.

I'll tell you, I think a good fight would be against Hiliary Clinton and Elizabeth Dole. You would even the playing field by having it be a Woman competing against another Woman.

My only problem with a woman in the White House (I am a woman myself) is PMS. What happens if we are having a really bad PMS day and the media says we look awfu?? I would want to lock myself in the bathroom with a pint of Chunky Monkey and take a long bath!

Well, maybe not. But, does anyone think this country will put a woman in office?

I don't really know anything about Obama's politics so I can't say if I would vote for him or not, but I doubt he's electable, just on his name alone. Americans like American sounding names, just look at the names of our Presidents through out history. So, on second thought, maybe Lieberman isn't such a good idea. I would vote for him, but maybe he's not really electable either...

I think he would have gotten more of the southern vote than Kerry did.

The GOP will have to be thinking long and hard past this win to 2008. Guliani and McCain are not going to bring out the base voters we saw in record numbers yesterday. As popular as they "might" be with swing voters, that's a risky strategy for winning the Presidency.

Who would you pick then?

goudaman -- I don't believe Hillary or Liddy have to worry about PMS!

Rudy Guiliani is too moderate for the Republican Party. Plus, his last marriage ended badly and in public.

Tar Heel . . .

I thought about that after I posted it . . . maybe just alot of "they are talking about my hair again" (you know how many style changes Hiliary went through as the first lady).

The only problem I see with Hiliary getting the White House is all of the interns Bill will have access to  .

I'd like a moderate like Rudy or McCain to run with a strong conservative like George Allen.

I thought there would be at least one day before this thread started!!!!!

Bet -- I agree with you about Guillani and Lieberman. I think the only state that might have changed in the South with Lieberman is FL, but that might have been enough assuming (a huge assumption) that he carried all the states Kerry took.

Not a sitting Senator. Governors win Presidencies. Haven't reviewed the list of potential candidates from the pool of governors.

I would have to seriously consider moving if George Allen gets that kind of power. It was bad enough when he was Gov. here and now he's a Senator.

Sorry. I voted for Bush this time, but I am a ibertarian and am not particularly thrilled with Bush. I'm a political junkie. I'm just looking forward. :D

I posted this on another thread earlier, but here it is again:

Hilary needs to go away. I like her, but I'm sorry, but if she runs in 2008, we're electing a Republican for sure. There is no way that the first woman president is a Democrat. The only way we're going to get a woman in the White House is if the candidate is a Republican. (And even that's a looooong shot)

Reason? A Democratic woman candidate is only going to get the Democratic vote. And even then they're going to lose some of that from people (even dems) who don't want to see a woman in office. A Republican woman candidate has a chance of getting some Dems to vote for her, based on the fact that she's a woman.

I really like Obama, but I agree that he isn't very experienced yet. I don't know who I'd like to see the Dems run.

JMO, but

I doubt he's electable, just on his name alone. Americans like American sounding names, just look at the names of our Presidents through out history.

is about the saddest thing I've read in a long time. And it's not that I don't agree with the statement. I do think there's a lot of truth in it, and that makes me so discouraged.
