Have there been any Buffalo deals lately? Any September DINGs yet? What goodies have I missed?

Thank you DING watchers,

Lisa

Can someone help me - what does DING stand for? From reading the boards I gather it means cheap flights but I don't get the term:confused3

thanks!!

Hi Jojo,

DING is a Southwest airline program. You sign up for it to be put onto your computer at southwest.com. You don't have to put in a local US zip code. I put in 90210 and it works fine. They asked us in the last year to add favouriite airports (to make your ding locations more concise) so I'm sure they do that now for new sign ups. Then your computer will "ding" when there is a special. Usually daily.

These specials just last for hours and they are usually SWs best prices. Southwest flies out of Buffalo for those in S. Ontario. Also, Albany for those in Eastern Ontario. Seattle has southwest. I'm not sure if any Maritmers use it. I guess Manchester, NH would the "closest" one. Southwest prices are a lot cheaper than our fares because the tax is so low.

And it certainly wasn't a dumb question. Most people have no idea what it is until they use it.

DING has changed my life. Sounds dramatic but honestly we couldn't afford to fly and we used to drive to WDW for our trips. Sounds weird having DVC but certainly didn't have the budget for both. Fuel costs have gone up so prices are bit higher now. But $49 one way was not uncommon. It was the absolute norm for a BUF-MCO DING.

when i pulled up southwest to see for an airfare out of Syracuse I couldnt find it on the list is it under a diff area of NY?

Could any ding watchers do me a favour. If a ding comes up from Buffalo could you copy the url addy and paste it in a post. I had ding and it malfunctioned and I have been unable to get it installed again (I have a very old operating system).

I haven't seen a DING going Buffalo to Orlando this week, anyway. Seems like all the DINGs I'm seeing are all $96. Anyone else? Seems high.

I've already booked my fall flights at $64, the internet sale price.

I booked mine when they first opened up and than cancelled and re-booked Thursday giving me a $280 credit. I'm just hoping if I can get a ding and up my credit I might be able to talk DH into another visit in Jan:rolleyes1 .

In the last few trips, I've been booking my departure and returns separately. Even if I'm doing them at the same time. I'm a absolute veteran of booking, cancelling for different prices, changing flight times when the price lowers for one, booking DINGs etc. Ie. I endlessly scan for the best deal!!! :thumbsup2 I thought I knew all the ins and outs of the easiest/fastest way of getting my vouchers.

However, a friend recently explained to me that DING is set up differently than the regular system. And booking your return and departure separately, before you find the DING, makes it an easier system to make changes.

Thanks so much for the info Lisa Violet. Being in Ottawa, Albany and buffalo are both almost a 6 hour drive. We sometimes fly out of Syracuse or Rochester, (3 and 4 hours), but sadly no SW Air in either place. Air tran sometimes has good deals (Rochester) but never that cheap!

Thanks again for your help!

JoJo thats what we're looking at too as we're just an hour out of Ottawa but I just checked NWA out of Ottawa for Dec 23-Dec 31 and got a price of 563.00 US each with the exchange thats not bad.

Hi Debbie,

Same as us. I looked into leaving from Syracuse, but it would have saved us only a total of $200 for the two tickets. When I factored in the 3 hour drive, gas, parking and time, leaving from Ottawa was a better deal - $435 each (Delta) with better flight times. If only SouthWest would come closer it would be a totally different story!

This came up today. :thumbsup2
