We are looking to stay at either the WL or AKL after the first of the year for a quick 4 day trip... When is the best time in January, Feb or early March to go in terms of getting good rates at the deluxes and seeing small crowds at the parks?????

I think anytime in January or early February would fit your criteria. It will be value season so rates will be better. Crowds should be light at least until mid to late February. That's when Regular season kicks in and rates are higher. Crowds pick up then too and by March, you would be getting into the Spring Break crowds. We have had 2 pleasant trips in January and early Feb. Be prepared for some pretty cool days at either time.

For small crowds and lower rates, best is January or early Feb but avoid very early January (through the weekend after Jan 1 as there will still be some of the Christmas crowd) and Martin Luther King weekend (even then it is not hugely crowded but more than rest of month). Also, keep checking mousesavers.com for possible discounts during that period. Much of Feb is fine for crowds except avoid entire week that Presidents Day falls in as it is very crowded then. You get into peak season prices beginning mid Feb and through most of April. Early March begins the spring break weeks and crowds are larger (although the earlier in March the less the crowd).

We've had great luck during the last week of January and the first week of February in terms of crowds and weather.

Just watch January around the Disney Marathon weekend. In 2003, I believe the marathon is Jan 12.
