So What's Coming to the New Pleasure Island?

:( I feel like I've just found out an old friend I haven't seen in a while passed away...

as the comments on bobs page says, its interesting this happens so soon after universals profits are announced.

Seems a clear admission that disney are saying their plans during this financial crisis have not worked and whilst universal will have added attractions which are not only going to pay for themselves very quickly and then increase profits for years to come. Disney however havent increased profits, and have left themselves with significantly less income potential once we're out of this crisis by closing PI, lowering the quality of dining and lowering the choice of merchandise. Plus they've got several big rides due major refurbs in the next year I think.

big oops for the bean counters.

Its not like they werent warned! All the signs from the downturn in the retail real estate market, what the competition was doing and the feedback from guests SHOULD have given them pause. STUPID is as STUPID does!

Please add the VALET PARKING! PLEASE!

I think this is just the old name for a bridge that was by valet parking back when PI had it (ended in like 2002). I wouldn't count on valet parking returning to DTD.

You give the bean counters too much credit. Even if the economy was gangbusters, it was a dumb idea--no way PI could have supported another 6 or 8 high-end restaurants, be they run by Disney or 3rd parties.

TDO overvalued their real estate, and misjudged what their audience wants. Pure and simple.

Worse... it feels like you had just heard that friend was getting better and you looked forward to possibly seeing him/her again soon and the next day they pass away.:sad2:

City Walk's profits had to have skyrocketed once PI closed. That was one of the best things that happened for them, IMO.
For those of us not City Walk people, Pointe Orlando looks like a decent replacement. They also have a comedy club (Orlando Improv), and BB King's is right there with entertainment too. Seems like a lot in that area.

Possibly, but City Walk has always been pretty stable and busy and it doesn't have any issues bringing in people with money, just look at Valet towards the club hours...Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, etc...

From the Click Orlando article

Disney has not said what will take the place of the clubs or when the demolition will begin, but said to expect an announcement in two weeks.

I know! I know! Princess meet-and-greets and some big fairy tree! ;)

That's just evil. Please God. no.

Pleasure Island is one big waste now IMO. Did we really need more stores? It just shows a tremendous lack of imagination.

Here's hoping some thing better comes along.

I can not wait since Pleasure Island and Epcot
is where my husband and I generally hang out.
It would be great to see some new things for
adults.
We often go to the wine and cigar bar before
we head to dinner at the House of Blues.

From the chatter I'm hearing, there will a name change to something nautical and the entire Island theme will be nautical-related. A nautical-themed restaurant will go where Rock'n'Roll Beach Club now stands. Another rumor has a lighthouse design fast food restaurant and bar with outdoor seating on the water near where Beach Club and Motion come together. I'm unsure whether this is part of the nautical-themed restaurant or a completely separate operation because they're from separate rumors.

BobK/Orlando

just more crap, no dance clubs from what we've heard
