So what exactly is school bread?

It's available at the Kringla bakery in the Norway pavilion at Epcot. It's a sweet roll filled with custard and topped with icing and coconut. It's a bit too sweet for me, but many people love it.

PP described it perfectly, though I would add the sweet roll does have some spices it in (like nutmeg and cinnamon, I believe). They aren't overpowering but do give the bread a great flavor. It is fairly sweet but I've got a massive sweet tooth so I love it!

DH and I share one, it's too sweet for me to eat the whole thing. Very delicious though!

Normally I LOVE things like this. Bread, custard, and coconut are all high on my love-to-eat list. But I've tried schoolbread twice now and concluded it's not for me. I did not enjoy the flavor combo of the custard with the spices in the bread although I would have loved both separately.

Both cardamom and coconut are pretty divisive/polarizing flavors. Schoolbread has both, so if you don't like them, you won't like it.

I like coconut, cardamon and custard, but somehow Kringla's school bread doesn't do it for me. It's a cheap snack ($3.49) and big enough to share, so it's worth trying I suppose. But I almost always get a sweet almond pretzel from Kringla instead.

I would agree that it's worth a try but I'm with the others who like coconut, custard, and pastry but not this particular combination... Bleh!

If you are from the Midwest (Dakotas area) - we called it a Bismark when I was growing up.

Usually, I like school bread but last November we got one and seemed really heavy on the spice, like I don't know if it was too much cardamom or what but I didn't not like it anymore. The custard was good but the dough was what I didn't like anymore.

It’s the breakfast of champions.

I get it to-go at night. To keep it fresh, I seal the whole to-go box in a gallon Ziplock back in my room and have it with coffee the next morning.

My favorite Disney breakfast next to Frangipane from France.

Yes, when we had the school bread July 2107, it seemed heavier on the cardamon than in the past. I would not call it a sweet roll, more like a filled hard roll. It is definately not like a bismark, which is a soft, sweet bread filled with whatever. Because it is a more like a hard roll, and not soft, sweet bread, some people think theirs is stale, because they think it should be the texture of a bismark. The custard is not overly sweet. The icing on top that holds the toasted coconut is sweet. I think it is the cardamon that is off-putting to most people, a spice many have never had before. And the texture of the hard, not soft, not sweet roll. I am very surprised by the people above stating it is too sweet.
I would suggest cutting it in half, and eat one half with coffee. You could share it with someone, or throw the other half away if you don't care for it.

I was never interested in this but we got one last time to share and everyone in my family loved it. I thought it was better than expected.

Very heavy and sweet. I thought I’d love it. It’s not for me but worth trying once
