My dh in his infinite wisdom (but trying to be sweet, so I give him points for that ;) ) bought a huge tub of plain yogurt. See , he bought it and some frozen mixed fruit thinking he got vanilla yogurt to make me a desert for after I got done with dinner today.

What exactly can I make with plain yogurt? Can it be substituted for anything ingredient wise? thankies :thumbsup2

I would go ahead with the dessert as planned however to help flavor the yogurt add some vanilla extract or even some vanilla bean or honey....I would think that would add flavor to the plain yogurt.

How about a Greek yogurt dip?

In Greek: τζατζίκι, pronounced dza-DZEE-kee

Tzatziki is traditionally served as an appetizer and can be left on the table as an accompaniment to foods throughout the meal. The key to great tzatziki is the thick creamy texture that allows it to be eaten alone, as a dip, as a spread, and as a condiment.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
16 ounces (2 cups) of thick Greek yogurt (I would think you could substitute your plain yogurt just fine)
4 to 10 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1/2 cup of diced or grated cucumber (Kirby or "English")
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
Preparation:
Prepare all ingredients in advance. Combine oil and lemon juice in a medium mixing bowl. Fold the yogurt in slowly, making sure it mixes completely with the oil. Add the garlic, according to taste, and the cucumber. Stir until evenly distributed. Garnish with a bit of green and serve well chilled.

Yield: about 2 1/2 cups

Add mint or dill: Slight variations include 1-2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh dill and/or fresh mint. Tasty additions!

You could do homemade Gyros, or serve with hummus, pita, and fresh veggies.

Even just good as a dip for crackers or chips. :)

Just add honey... or a little vanilla and sugar. Use either Splenda or powdered sugar if you can. Granulated might take a while to dissolve. We always buy plain yogurt (usually Greek) and just add flavorings/sweeteners.

I can make a broach...or a pterodactyl.or.....

(yeah, I saw AIRPLANE one too many times)

My Mom used to just mix plain yogurt with a can of crushed pineapple...yummy!

  • 4 hothouse cucumbers, thinly sliced (3 to 4 pounds)
  • 2 small red onions, thinly sliced in half rounds
  • Kosher salt
  • 4 cups (32 ounces) plain whole-milk yogurt
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons champagne vinegar or white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup minced fresh dill
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
Directions

Mix the cucumbers, red onions, and 1 1/2 tablespoons of salt in a bowl. Pour them into a colander and suspend it over a bowl. Wrap the bowl and colander with plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator to drain for at least 4 hours or overnight. Discard the liquid that collects in the bowl.
Pour the yogurt into a sieve lined with a paper towel and suspend it over another bowl. Wrap the bowl and sieve in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Discard the liquid that collects in the second bowl.
When the cucumbers are ready, roll them up in paper towels or a kitchen towel and press the towel lightly to remove most of the liquid. Place the cucumbers and yogurt in a large bowl with the sour cream, vinegar, dill, 2 teaspoons salt, and the pepper. Toss well and refrigerate for a few hours to allow the flavors to blend. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper and serve chilled.

You can mix in some sugar free fat free pudding mix or sugar free fat free jello mix to flavor it. On WeightWatchers old core program, I used to mix it with sf ff cheesecake flavor pudding and serve with berries. Yum.

You can also use it like sour cream in burritos, can't tell the difference/

You can make a low fat version of chicken or turkey tetrazinni using the plain yogurt in the place of sour cream. I use this all the time and it's great.

:goodvibes You beat me to it. I make tzatziki sauce regularly. Plain yogurt works fine, just a little runnier than if you make it with Greek yogurt.

We put plain yogurt on our old doggie's food to help keep his stomach settled. DD16 mixed a little preserves in her plain yogurt and threw in a few blueberries with it.
