So upset with Sears right now

If you do not use your credit accounts, they will likely be closed due to inactivity. If you want the account, use it occasionally.

Just a thought...it may be that if you would not have been denied an account would have been issued right away online with your own information. I'm wondering if you were told that you'd get an answer in 30 days because your income didn't qualify you and they needed that amount of time to process and send a denial letter. I wonder if you had applied in your DH's name at the beginning if an account might have been issued. Obviously it's a moot point, but it might be an explaination for why they have that "apply now" button.

Sorry you had so much trouble with it.

It isn't just Citibank, it is there in store customer service. We used to buy alot at Sears (Dh tools, lawn equipment, tires, other car repair services), because if their reputation, no more. Their lack of Customer Service is going to eventually put them out of business.

We had a horrible situation with them with DH's car and took the issue all the way to Corporate and nothing was done about it, including returning calls.

There was a time when most of what my family bought came from Sears, not anymore, there are plenty of places willing to treat me right.

I'm a firm believer that
1) Customer service in stores is pretty much a thing of the past
2) credit card companies are 1 step up from the mob. they make the rules, they change the rules whenever.

Nothing they do anymore surprises me.

I was in a Sears store over the weekend looking to purchase an oven. The salesman told me to go home and look at the internet to find a model that I liked and to come back and buy it from him. Needless to say I went to another appliance store where they were willing to assist me face-to-face.

I'm sorry you had so many problems. I love Sears! I buy all of my big stuff there, as I can use my dad's discount.:) But I have never had any billing issues (knock on wood) or any other problems either.

I personally do not purchase anything from Sears. I did oder somethings for my mother from Sears. They sent me the wrong item twice. When I went in the store to return the items the 1st item with receipt and cc took 10 minutes to return:confused3. The second item WITH A RECEIPT AND PROPER CREDIT CARD took 1 1/2 hours to return:confused3:headache:. Needless to say I will never order or purchase anything from Sears again.

I refuse to step in the store. To make a very long story short I bought a dishwasher from them that arrived broken. It took 6 months, 4 trips by the repairman one of which he did not have the part he needed because his superior canceled the part order saying it was not needed, 3 sears stores fighting over who was responsible for the dishwasher issue because I did not buy it at the closest one and a fireball shot out of the dishwasher across my kitchen floor (carpeted by previous owner) before they gave me a new one. The best part was the expression on the repairman's face while he was watching the said fireball. I then looked at him and asked "Now do I get a new one?" and he just nodded. I had it within a week.

Thanks again everyone.

I just checked the Sears website, and the item I was looking at is $1000 more today! I did miss a great deal because of their incompetence, but I am guessing that I am possibly saved from some future issues with the company at this point too.

As I said before, it's really their loss. We need a fridge in the next year or so, and will likely replace the dishwasher at the same time. Not buying at Sears!

Where do I find the ignore feature? THanks!

Gee I've never done it (I like too much to laugh at the drama) but I think you go to your User CP (top of the page on the left) and I think from there you can block particular DIS names - you won't even see their posts at all unless someone else quotes them in a thread.

Upon talking more about this, DH and I figured out the last time we used the card was when we bought our Dyson years ago. Sears, despite having all of our info in front of them, somehow sent all of our bills to an old address. After a month or so, I called with concern and changed the address when I figured out the issue.

they tried slapping us with all kinds of fees, which they had to remove when I reminded them it was their fault I never received a bill.

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get the deal...

A previous poster seems to have missed the bolded part of the above post.

Just thought I'd help a little bit.

I have had my fair share of problems with Sears - the biggest was a warrenty issue expiring 4 weeks before my washer broke. Without getting into a big long story which consisted me telling a phone rep. to remember me because I will get my washer fixed for free - watch me.

A compliant to the Better business bureau got the washer fixed. I encourage you to file a complaint.

Speaking of weird credit stories............here is a Macy's one.

about 3 + years ago I was shopping for a wedding gift, went to macy's as that was where they registered, so I picked my gift and at checkout, was going to pay cash, the sales clerk said, oh apply for a macys card and you will get x percent off your purchase today, you can use the card right away.
So I did, got the card, bought the wedding gift with it, got the discount.
then paid the card amount in full.
then did not use the card again.............so last year, I am in macys and figure I will use the card to keep it active, well you guessed it, went to the register and it was supposedly closed. so I bought my items anyway, went home and have some mail from macys ( one of the coupons they send to cardholders)
so I email them saying I tried to use the card in the store and is it cancelled or not)
they tell me no it is not cancelled.
so I place an order online used the card. great.
ok, get the bill pay in full.

again don't use it much, went in store recently, couldn't use it.
I didn't bother pursuing it again, cuz I figured I didn't really want it, just was going to use it to keep it active.
so last night I go online to macys to order some kids clothes since they are having a great sale, and additional 25% off.
so I am about to enter my visa number when I decide for kicks I will enter the Macys card number, and it went thru.

so macys has no clue what in the world they are doing either.

Sears sends the bills to the address provided, if you move it is your responsibility to call and provide your new address.
I can’t believe that you are bashing sears because you got denied. I would be too embarrassed to even post something. BTW I’m sure you didn’t get the letters stating that your card was being cancelled either :confused3

Not the OP but I just wanted to say that Sears (or the card Administrator) cancelled my card due to inactivity. No...I did not receive a letter informing me of that and I open and pay all the bills.

This happened to us too. We applied for a sears card because it gave us an additional percent of the washer and dryer we were going to buy. We paid off the W&D and didn't use the card again. We found out about a year later is was shut off. No letter. It's kind of odd to shut off a card that was not used irresponsibly.:confused3
