Only to be able to indulge in your every whim while aboard the Ship?

Can't believe I'm on a "8 week" diet to lose what I hope is enough for what I expect to gain on my 1 week cruise :hyper:

Now, for a packing strategy... Must wear tight clothes first, reserving loose clothes for end of cruise... :earseek:

Yes, that would be me!!! Not a good time to do it, during the holidays and all. Three times a week at the YMCA and TRYING to cut down on snacks and candy. I've lost ten ponds so far, I'll put it all back on the cruise!!! By the way, this the DH. The DW is helping me. Which cruise are you taking?

HADD!!! :wave2:

You know, on my last cruise, I actually lost weight! Well...between DW and the cruise, that is..... I had been dieting before the cruise and went with the idea of trying anything I wanted but not stuffing myself....and worked out at the gym every day except CC day. I came home 3 pounds lighter than when I'd left home, and didn't feel the least deprived. And, on the next cruise, I'm wearing all new clothes because I've shrunk out of the old ones.

Couldnt resist responding to this 'typo' post,

Anyways, I am always on a diet, a 'see'food diet, I eat everything I see! :teeth: Hehehehe!
They might have to roll me off that boat! :wave2:

Have fun!

PS- btw- I luved your little "Hooah" youns used to put under your posts, I have a license plate on the front of my caravan that says that...:p (HOOOAAH) Loved ScentOfAWoman!
What is HADD??

I have until 1/10 to lose the weight. What kind of dignified person has to buy a bathing suit at Christmas time?

Oh well, we'll see what I can do in the mean time. I plan on making a "terrible" Christmas dinner, maybe even just burning the turkey on purpose and adding salt instead of sugar to my cookies (Joking!!) :jumping1:

Hubby and I have been dieting and working out since summer and have lost almost 50 pounds (him) and 30 pounds (me) so far. I figured that on the ship I'd be happy to just maintain or only gain a pound or two. But amazingly enough, I found that now that I am working out regularly, my body craved exercise on the ship. I used to barely make it a mile on deck 4, but now I can keep going indefinitely, and instead of hating it, I enjoy it. I used to indulge in mid-day snacks, but I managed to stay away from Scoops and Plutos so I could indulge at the main meals. I'm happy to say that the scale was up a couple pounds the day we returned, then went back down to flat the next day :D

That is REALLY good news, I dont think I could lose any weight if I even tried! I hate walking like you say you used to! Keep up the good work,

:)

Congrats on the weight loss!!!! I am watching my carbs, sort of a modified Atkins I guess you would call it. I lost 10 lbs. in about 6 weeks without really trying. My biggie was no coffee in my sugar. Not a typo, I like really sweet coffee!!!! I also cut out sweet tea. I own a Bowflex Ultimate but just need to use it. My DH has lost probably 30 pounds using it. He doesn't diet. His motto is" I exercise so that I can eat what I want". Our cruise is in April and I would like to look nice in a sleek evening gown. My husband and I will be celebrating our 5th anniversary. If I can lose another 10 pounds I will be happy!!! Good luck everyone, I hope you are successful on your weight loss program.

Hubby and I try to look at it is a "lifestyle change" rather than a diet, which makes it more palatable ;)
Actually, with the big 4-0 staring me in the face, I wanted to do something because both my mom and dad passed away in their 50s and I want to have lots more years of cruising ahead of me. Our biggest problem was laziness, which led us to eat out too much. Now hubby and I get food from Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig, which means it's very simple to prepare and the plan is easy to follow. I'm a big infomercial buff, so I have several videos like Walk Away the Pounds, the Firm, and Slim in 6. I don't follow believe the crazy claims (have a beach body in 6 weeks!). I just rotate them as part of my daily exercise because they are all good combo cardio and strength training routines. I'm sure I looked pretty silly on the ship wearing my ab belt with stretch tubing and doing my upper body work as I walked the deck, tho'!

I've been on WW for a year now -- lost 112 lbs so far, though certainly not for the cruise. However, we're taking our cruise the first week of January and knowing the cruise is right around the corner has made it MUCH easier for me to pass on the holiday treats so far. I'm hoping to be at 120 lbs down by the time we leave for Florida on January 1st (my New Year's goal was 117 lbs, so the extra will give me 3 lbs to play with on the cruise!).

its so hard, isnt it? i had my littlest one, olivia grace, 4 mos ago. i gained 50 lbs due to severe pre-eclamsia. i am soooooo happy to say that i already lost 41 of it with the help of (modified)atkins and the local gym 4-5 days per week. i have a month and a half till our magic cruise. i pray ill make it. i bought clothes in my original size 8, i am a 10 now, and i hope that i dont look like a stuffed sausage trying to fit in those clothes:hyper:

I am trying soo hard not to look like SHAMU at the pool on the cruise... but it is difficult.. I do the exercise okay.. but I am addicted to ice cream...Have 3 1/2 months to lose the weight...any good strategy??? I can use the help....

geffric,

I found that the best for me to lose weight is to cut way back on sugars and carbs. I eat alot of meat and salads. Yes it was hard to do this, but once you see the pounds dropping it gets much easier. Of course, exercise will quicken your weight loss.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geffric - do the Weight Watchers program -- I lost 60 pounds last year, and am within 15 pounds of a downscaled goal (WW's was too high). Luckily, I am tall, so that 15 pounds doesn't really show.

I have kept it off for 12 months now, and that is the most important thing to me.

It is a great program, very flexible, and you could easily stick to it on the cruise --

Good luck!!

Ladies, dont bother with the diets, just go and have fun! Oh, Im sorry, I would be right there with you if I could diet. One of the great benefits of expecting moms!

When DH and I went on the 7 day eastern for our 8th anniversary, I lost 10 pounds beforehand so that I could eat what I wanted to onboard, and not feel "guilty". I should probably say that I'm not a big person to start with(5'6"..120 lb)...I come from "little stock"(dad was 5'8", mom is 5'1") as I have to remind my children's doctors when they are not happy with their weight. Mamma's little, babies gonna be little too! Anyway, it was NOT easy to do, especially since I knew I didn't *really* need to lose weight. But, I was glad I did. I didn't cut carbs totally, just refined sugar. I'm a carb junkie...I live on meat and potatoes. Don't like vegetables. World's worst influence on children ;)
Anyway, DH and I are cruising again in July for our 10th, and I will probably start again AFTER the holidays are over! I've found that "splenda" is very good...can't even tell the difference. I have a friend on the AMA Heart diet, and this is the 1 sweetener the DOCTORS told him to use. Also make sure that I do SOME form of exercise every day...and not just cardio. Your body needs some kind of strength training. The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn. I try to get at least 3 each of strength training and cardio in a week. You'd be amazed what just a little bit of time, and cutting back can do. Hoping to be down another 5-10 before my cruise in July. I think Barb has the right idea...a lifestyle change, and not a diet. THat's how I looked at it when my now 3 1/2 yr old was 1, and my son (then 4, now 7) laid his head on me and said (I am NOT exagerating) Mommy, I like to lay on you...you're squishy! Out of the mouths of babes!!!

Same thing with us, we will be on the 12/24 wonder. DH and I have been working on the weight thing for 2 1/2 mnths now, he has been dieting and I joined an all womans work out center. we are both doing well. I never had a big goal (thought I need to) an inch or pound works for me. I do however have a pair of capri pants i would love to fit into i have had them for a year! only tried them on once, giving myself till next weedend to try them again.
I am planning to stick to it on the ship, though DH, wants to eat everything he can and wants while there. but as he found out just by eating a little slice of cake, after not eating that stuff for a while , it didn't sit well with the body. Keep up the good work and it will pay off , even if for 2 days, i think i am going to do the same wear tighter clothes first and smocks after that LOL

happy sailing
Missy

I have approx. 6 months still, but like Barb said, I'm aiming for a lifestyle change.

The cruise is a great incentive, though-- last cruise I was recovering from gallbladder surgery and also was a bit out of shape, now I'm looking forward to having more energy to do active stuff on the cruise. And definately join us on the WISH board, the awesome folks over there offer terrific support!::MickeyMo

Kendra: Congrats on cruising again. Good to hear from you.

As far as dieting, we aren't going until next Christmas, and it's my goal to start watching the weight after the first of the year. I love carbs, so I can't do Adkins. DH is trying Adkins though, so post new year should be interesting with me trying something like weight watchers and him doing low carb. Meal planning will be a challenge!

And yes, I do plan on joining the wish board. I've peeked at it, and it seems like a great support group.
