So today, I got braces...

I've had braces twice!!! I HATE them. after three days the pain starts to go away. I put on oragel to numb my gums around my teeth. That always seems to help me. I hope your mouth starts to feel better!

I don't think my ortho mentioned rubber bands? Like I said, my top teeth weren't terribly unfortunate. My bottom teeth are another story. I'm very scared to get those on!

Not all of them mention everything at the beginning because teeth can sometimes be unpredictable. Having to use rubber bands is quite common.

I've used almost everything.

Let's just say my first time around wasn't fun.:sad1:

It's still just as bad, but I guess it's paying off cause we've noticed some improvement. My teeth are starting to move into place and straighten out. You can definitely tell.

However, this morning I had a headache and I think my teeth pain added into it giving me a migraine. It was awful. /:

Oh man, I've gotta whine for a few seconds. Someone call the WAAAAAHHHHbulence for me, and make sure there's cheese! ;)

I got braces today. Yes, I'm nearly 17. What happened was I was due for braces at the end of 8th grade when I'd just turned 14. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with cancer at that time, and due to the medicine I was taking, any dental work could not be done. The time period I was on chemo screwed up my teeth even worse than they already were.

I finished chemo and the last 1 1/2 years have been spent fixing what was messed by chemo. Cavities, fillings, and root canals galore. I had a cavity on nearly every single one of my teeth. I had a great dentist though who made practically everything pain free. The fillings hurt worse than the root canals!

Now, it's time for braces. HOLY HELL! My teeth HURT! I predmedicated and had them put on around noon and I was fine. I had mashed potatoes for lunch and chinese food for dinner! But 8pm rolls around and it begins to kill. I know it's silly because I've been in worse pain, but that doesn't mean I wanna be in pain now!

So, how did you guys manage the pain for the first couple days you got braces on? Also, are there any other easier ways to floss? LOL!

Dude, I feel your pain. I got my braces about a year ago just before I turned 16.
I should have had them sooner but we were broke and couldn't afford them until now.

Anyway, braces suck so much so I know exactly how you feel.
When I first got them on I thought I was going to have to kill something. XD
The first few weeks is the worst though. They'll only be sore when you get the tightened after that and not as badly.

I don't want to sound mean..... but it gets worse. Much worse. You're at the easy part. The bad part comes when they start putting those chain rubber bands in. They're all connected and it makes your teeth feel really really tight. Those were definitely my LEAST favorite part of having braces.

And the pain will go away after about a week. Every time I got my braces tightened, it hurt for around a week straight. Not a fun time at all.

I have to add to the list: when they put those band things on your molars.... ouch! I think that's the worst!

Believe it or not, I wanted braces at the time! I felt so left out, because all of my friends had them and I didn't. Boy was I wrong!

I had mine for about 6 months, and they put a chain on... big mistake. I had a tooth go behind another that same night! It hurt so bad. So far, they have never put a chain on again! I'm not to the rubber bands part yet, but I've heard they hurt!

Braces suck!

Anyway, Sonya, it does get better. Soon they will feel VERY normal and natural. I do still have indentation on my upper lip from the braces...if I run my tongue over the inside of my lip I can feel where they were resting. The tightening hurt but I don't know if it hurt as bad as the initial putting them on. Take the painkillers! Remember that the pain will pass. You are strong and brave and having braces isn't terrible but it is an annoyance. And the eating restrictions, I'm such a rebel :cool2:...I didn't really follow them. But I didn't follow the drink through the straw thing with my wisdom teeth either. :rolleyes1:

I had just four on my front top teeth when I was nine/ten for a year. Then I got full braces when I was thirteen and they were supposed to be on for two years. At two year mark the ortho says that I need two teeth removed and another year or I'd have to have braces again later on. If I got the teeth removed I would be DONE.

Well, I get the teeth removed and the year over with. Orthodontist was taking vacations and wouldn't be able to remove them for FOUR more months. That was four more months of hell so I went to my friend's orthodontist to have them removed. It wasn't so much the pain but the aesthetics for the reason I wanted them off.

NOW I find out that I have an open bite and that to correct this I would need at least another year in braces and jaw surgery. OMG.

Have to vent my story. It makes me so upset.

Really? I don't mind the chain ones so much. The worst thing for me was when I had my palate expander, which not everyone gets.

yeah they really hurt I couldn't eat anything accept soup for the first week I got mine but it stops after a couple of days
I just took paracetemol and I found that if I kept drinking then it felt like it was loosening off a bit for like a second I no it's not much help but its all I can think of hope this helps even a bit

BLECK!!!!! I have to get braces to...I dont have them but i'm getting them...I definetly think it's worth it!!! I'm going to hate it but love them!!! As they say the meaner the teacher the better, you learn the most with that teacher!! :teeth: your going to love the finished results of them!!!

That did suck. All day, everyday lisp-maker. :rotfl:

I always got perverse pleasure taking them out in front of my friends. Not a pretty picture while you're eating.
