Where to begin! How about with the trip update first! The only thing new I have to add is I went 't-shirt' shopping for Disney shirts. This is something we've never done on our previous trips and I see all of the cute photos of all of you and your families with the fun Dis-tees and I bought some! I'd gotten a few last winter on clearance but added to the collection officially last night. As soon as this order arrives, I will take pictures and upload. But Eddie is going to be somewhat suprised when he arrives to WDW and sees what I have for him to wear!
I also fit in time to make ADR's yesterday for the February trip. I'm still concerned about my partner and her knee - she did have a cortisone shot on Friday, got some relief there and is back in physical therapy so hopefully she will still be a 'go.' If not, then my DD and I will muddle through the race together. I'm excited about that as an option as well!
We will only be there for 4-5 days, right now booked at 5 nights, and I got ADRS's for Raglan Road, Boatwrights, 'Ohana, Le Cellier, and Tony's. I will do a more detailed PTR on this at a later date. I'm so focused on Christmas that I find it hard to even think about February - other than I'm still running and actually enjoying it now!
Okay - my kiddos... where do I start?? I know I gave an introduction of sorts about them when I first started this but I don't know that I've given credit where credit is due to them as individuals.... so here goes... and you are getting a lot! I'm not one that posts all of my kids accomplishments in facebook world as I feel like all of the kids deserve credit from each of their teams - so that's usually what I post about. However, there are many times I wish I could bring myself to brag on my kids... I'm considering a blog. But since I don't have that yet, I'm going to try it out with you all here!
Erin is actually not in a sport right now - she is a watergirl for her daddy's football teams though! She plays basketball and runs track. She is a straight A student and works hard for that A in math.
She is definitely literature / art oriented. She is a happy carefree girl who is rough and tough in the field of competition. She plays point guard for her basketball team (which means she brings the ball up the court and controls the game with play-calling and she has a great shot) and she is undefeated in the 100m hurdles and runs as fast as the local high school girls in our area. She would have qualified for state competition in Oklahoma as a 7th grader last year with her time. She's already hit her highest growth spurt, should level out from here forward, so we feel confident she won't fall prey that so many girls do when they go through the developmental phase and hips get wider, booties a little rounder, etc. That can slow ya down. Her basketball season will begin in November so I'm sure I will update you more then!
Nolan is my perfectionist. He is my child that has had to fight for everything from the day he was born. He was a little bit premature and was oxygen dependent for several days. And for two years, our lives revolved around nebulizers, pneumonia, ear infections... and then we relocated from NW Oklahoma to NE Oklahoma, had his tonsils and adenoids removed, and he became a new kid. He rarely has to use preventive meds (this spring he did for about 6 weeks) but other than that he is healthy as a horse. He works hard at his grades, is also an honor student, but works very hard at that. However, his comprehension is unbelievable. He can truly read something once and 'he's got it.' Love that about him. The one uncanny characteristic about this kid - with his breathing issues he suffered - is he loves to run... and run... and run. He is fast and can just run forever it seems. We used to worry he wouldn't be able to do something like running but he proved us completely wrong. Because of that - he also loves sports. He loves football, basketball and baseball. I know I reported about his baseball this summer so let's skip to football. He is running back on offense and linebacker on defense. That means the kid never comes off the field. He scored two touchdowns and two extra point conversions this past Saturday - they won 30-0. And defensively - I've never seen him play and tackle like he did this past weekend. He shocked me with his level of maturity and strength.
Then there's Nate... he's my confident 'can do anything' kid. And he pretty much does what he sets his mind out to do. He is 8 years old and can hit a legitimate homerun, over the fence, in baseball and he can run and dive to catch pop flys. He is also a fast little booger. I guess Eddie and I have something we've passed on to our kids - speed - because all three of them are quick. Eddie says he evaluated me before he proposed...
Nate also plays football. Last year, he scored 29 touchdowns in a 9 game season. In the play-off game, the game was tied with 2.1 seconds left (we all assumed we'd be going into overtime) and they kicked off and why that ball went to him, we will never understand, but he caught it and ran it in for the winning touchdown. It was one of those moments as a mother I had to think "Did he really just do that?" This Saturday was no different... he also scored two touchdowns and both were what my husband calls busted plays. He took the ball and ran into three opposing players, and ran through them, and scored. The other touchdown was a hand-off to him from the quarterback and he literally ran a kid over to get in the endzone. After sitting through so many of my DH's high school football games, I was shocked to watch Nate play like I would see the high school boys play... he's picked up some knowledge somewhere along the way. And he's 8. I have so many people tell me he has 'something special' that can't be coached or taught... and it scares me.
We really try as parents to balance our kids out - let them know each of them are special in their own right - and we also try to keep them 'grounded' and level-headed. And we preach to them that commitment and dedication is what is going to allow them to excel - they can't just expect it to happen. This is Eddie's 16th year in his coaching profession and it's so hard to coach a kid that thinks he can already 'do it all.' I never want any of my kids to think they are 'the best.' Because there are a lot 'of the best' all over the world. Just want them to be happy. And they have a love for sports.
Anyway - I DO have pictures and video of them so maybe I will sneak a few on here for you all. And thank you for letting my share my kids with you all!!
