Tonight was open house for incoming freshman at my high school. 7th and 8th graders from 3 local towns were invited, Blink was one of them, so off DS12 and I go. It was nice having a night out without being tugged on, poked at, and draped with kidlets. We met up with some friends from school all in DS's class and toured the school. My house officer is now the director of student affairs, poor man looked scared as he walked up the aisle in the auditorium and saw me sitting there. Let's just say I was a memorable student and leave it at that, ok?! LOL

Any way, man it was like walking through a time warp! 17 years of distance and time has made me appreciate what kind of school it was and is. I wish I had the wisdom to embrace it while I was there. I was so busy trying to get out of the moment that I didn't get to enjoy the moment. DS said it looked like Hogwarts. Some of the buildings are 150+ years old. It is still a gorgeous campus, it rivals most colleges. We have 12 buildings, a public library, and a public museum.

DS is soo excited to go there. As much as I hate hate hate Blink, I really wish all my kids could go here, they would love it and have so much to offer for every kid. They can even take college courses for credit, DS could graduate HS with up to 2 years of college credit!

So the stats:
clubs and activities - 67 not including language clubs
languages spoken at home - 29
countries represented - 41
185 teachers including the special ed dept
2500+ students
incoming freshman class 650 (2008-2009)

it will be a bit of a shock going from a graduating class of 23 to 600+ but it is awesome!!!

Sorry for tooting my own horn, thanks for sticking with me in my proud mommy/alumni moment! LOL

Sounds like a great school! Very diverse.

My Grammie always said 'you can't put an old head on young sholders'. I know there are things in my past too, that I wish I had paid more attention to. I tell my kids to try and live the now, not always thinking about the next, but we all do it, and did it.

Pretty scary if you can still bring terror into the eyes of your former house officer!:scared1: ;) Who'da thunk you were such an evil child? :confused3 ;) LOL

I am glad my boy liked the school. Would you have to stay in Blink for him to attend or are there several surrounding towns that attend that school?

Sounds pretty cool.
Did you take photos of the campus so you can show us?

Wow, that sounds like a fabulous school! My niece and nephew both did the dual enrollment thing and it's a great option, it makes college easier and it gave my niece the ability to sign up for the Disney College Program since it wouldn't hurt her to miss a semester since she is so far ahead!:)

Sounds like a great campus!!!
We have a block rectangular building here! LOL
My BFF from home has her sons going to our alma mater..and lets just say.. when she goes in for teacher conferences and she gets nasty..they ask to see how I am.. LOL I was the good one in the bunch.. little did they know.. I saved my fun for the nighttime!!! Another reason DD can't date til college... I know what I did...another reason DH wants to put motion detectors and alarms on all doors/windows! LOL

That sounds like a great atmosphere..but 650 graduating.. wow!! I can't say much all the towns around us graduate that many.. we get maybe 250! Yeah!

I'm glad DS is excited about going there!!!! That makes it a lot easier on the transition..
DD is a freshman this year..and she loves it.. is very involved in everything; clubs, Student Council, dances, sports....
I hope your DS gets as much out of it.... it's amazing what we wish we would have known than what we know now!!!

me, evil?!?!? NAH!!!!!!!
ETA, yes we can live in 8 surrounding towns and the town the school is in. Or if we live near you, I can pay tuition but it's $9000 a year.

Sounds pretty cool.

it was already dark when we got there so I'll find some pics on the web when I get back from school.

the local college is one building, 4 floors. So many people used to come and ask us if it was the college, it was funny!

650 is pretty easily manageable but graduation takes for.ev.er!!!! We took the boys to my brothers graduation and his class was about 500. It took 3 1/2 hours!!! And it was hot!

found some quick pics:

the square tower in the background is the freshman house. They used to just let us roam all the buildings like the rest of the kids but after I graduated, they started keeping the kids in the one building for most of the classes.

It is pretty cool!

Oh and you know what the coolest thing about the whole thing is???
Wally Lamb, the author was my creative writing teacher there.

Your DS is right- it's like Hogwarts! Coolest high school ever for sure.

Oh, I forgot to tell you the football field is brand new state of the art astroturf and the track is some kid of foam or special asphalt, they won't let strollers on the track.

Hey Buffy - is that NFA? The building looks so familiar.

Maybe. ;)

Okay, that is just freaky.

I went to an NFA too. Only mine wasn't as cool and it was in NY.

Don't forget lady that we drove past it every summer when we went to our beach house! ;)
