Hello all....DH & I will be spending 2.5 days at SSR at the end of April.
What are some of the little "insider" things to do at the resort?

We are OKW owners, and stayed there in January, so we are looking forward to staying at a different resort for this little mini-trip.

Any romantic hideaways? Where can we see the DTD firewirks from? How is The Turf Club for dinner? Is there one pool or two? Is there a terrificm area of the resort to request to stay in?

Hi DD.

I just got back from two nights at SSR and one night at BCV. I went with a dear friend, so it wasn't a romantic trip, but it definitely was a good time. :goodvibes

We stayed in the buildings closest to DD. I think it's Congress Park? It's just a short walk on a little nature path to DD. We spent a lot of time at the quiet pool.

On the second day we walked from SSR to OKW (via a path along the golf course) and then took the boat from there to DD to do shopping and then walked back to SSR. That was nice. We had lunch at Wolfgang's Express.

We didn't try the spa, but that would be nice to do!

We could see Illuminations from where we were.

The spa there is excellent. We stayed in the Congress park section and we watched the DTD fireworks from our balcony. DTD is just a short walk away. We love love to eat dinner at Fulton's Crab house and then go to the comedy club. Enjoy!

We just got back a few weeks ago and stayed in a new Grandstand building. Very nice. We liked movie night at the main pool. There are 4 swimming pools at Saratoga. We also enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs eating Mickey ice cream bars outside of Artist's Palatte. We also caught the downtown Disney bus and ate at Fulton's Crab boat twice during our trip. It was very good. DVC members get a 30 percent discount on lunch.

We enjoyed our stay at SSR.

Unfortunately, the fireworks were discontinued when the Pleasure Island rehab started. They only have them on new year's eve. :sad1:

Well, I would check out the community hall offerings. When we were there the list of activities sounded great. Unfortunately, we had already made plans before we arrived but we're planning to check it out more thoroughly on another trip.

We found the CP quiet pool to be quite romantic after dark. The Spa also has several romantic programs available. Walks along the river can be romantic and the lights from DTD add to that feeling if you walk at night.

I don't think there are DTD fireworks, but if your room is high enough and facing the right direction you can see some of illuminations from your balcony.

I haven't eaten at the Turf Club, but Artist's Palette was a decent CS.

There are actually 4 pools. The main pool is in the Springs section (and all of the centralized buildings), the Grandstand section has a themed pool (wasn't open yet when we were there) and there are quiet pools in CP and the Paddock (does the Paddock have an abbreviation?).

Enjoy your stay!

We really liked dinner at Turf Club - it's a much more "upscale" and adult atmosphere than many of the TS restaurants, and our steak was on par with what we got at Le Cellier earlier that week.

There is a lushly landscaped quiet pool with hot tub right on the river overlooking DTD in Congress Park.

Different areas have different things to offer. I'd say The Springs (close to main buildings), CP (DTD views), and Grandstand (new pool and pool bar)will probably stay our top 3 requests.

On an adult trip, I'd take advantage of the offerings at Pleasure Island. If you've never been to the Adventurer's Club, it is very fun. There's great, varied dining at DTD. Cirque De Soliel is worth seeing once in a lifetime. Pleasure Island is open so late, it's a real bonus to be able to walk "home" after partaking of all PI has to offer.

And, most of all, enjoy walking in the morning or evening. Every little path has suprises: mosaic fountains, tucked-away courtyards, neat detailing. Look for the ways that the landscape architects designed the outdoor areas and buildings to create natural "frames" for different views and viewing areas.

Have a great trip!

DH and I love to rent bikes and ride around the grounds and over to Old Key West. Spa time is also great. The health club is great and we spend a lot of time there and at the pool. It is also nice to walk to downtown from there, very peaceful.
