So tell me about Pleasure Island...

Since we are traveling with extended family my husband and I were thinking about taking 1 night to be grown up. We are laid back- no dancing for us but we like to drink some beer and enjoy the environment of bars. I see there is a comedy club- I dont see anywhere saying they serve alcohol or not. Beside that- any suggestions?

We will be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside so it appears we can take a ferry- do they charge to get into Pleasure Island or just the club costs? And how to most people dress there?

My DBF and I went to the comedy club several times on our last WDW trip. It is probably the only part of PI we actually like, as DBF refuses to dance, and there is supposed to be some type of bar there but we have no idea. The comedy club definitely does serve alcohol and popcorn too, and there are some like outside bar windows that you can pick up alcohol, too. The club is an improv club so it changes for each show and thus, we went twice in one night. Make sure you eat before you go to PI, plenty of places with access from DD, but there is like no real food available and the DD places close sooo make sure it's not midnight and you're hungry, as I was, because you would be out of luck.

The charge for PI is either to pay to get in, I believe it would be the charge for all the clubs (I forget how much) or it is one "water park and more" fun visit, if you have that option, which also includes DisneyQuest and of course the waterparks. You can walk around PI for free but you would have to have a ticket of some kind in order to access the clubs, including the comedy club. I think if you buy it there it was somewhere around $20, don't quote me at all on that one.

And from POR, the ferry is free and it works quite well, about 20-25 minutes to DDM, which is then another like 10 minute walk. The bus goes there too, but I enjoy taking all forms of Disney Transportation, haha. If you'd take the bus, you'd want to go to DDW, as it is much closer than the marketplace, not like DDM is really that far.

If you like the ambience of an Irish pub, and don't feel like paying to enter, try Raglan Road. Admission is free, there are four bars to choose from (and a full service restaurant) and there's live Irish music and storytelling.

As for what to wear, it's up to you. Some people head straight to PI from the parks, others dress up to attend the dance clubs. If you wear something comfortable and casual you'll be fine.

Assuming you don't have a theme park pass that includes Pleasure Island, the standard charge is $21.95 for all club access and $9.95 if you just want one club. So if you were only going to do the comedy club you could get the cheaper ticket and see multiple comedy shows all in the same night. The all-club ticket would get you access to the comedy club and Adventurer's Club (a very weird style of comedy) plus the music clubs Motion (Top 40), BET Soundstage (Hip Hop/R&B), Mannequins (Techno/Dance), Rock'n'Roll Beach Club (Rock/Classic Rock) and 8TRAX (70's Disco & 80's). Even if you don't dance, the more expensive ticket is a better value because you can club hop all night and carry your drinks from club to club. Pleasure Island itself is free but you need the ticket for club entry. Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant is free to all. Raglan Road has a fish & chips window and the island has a pizza booth; a fast food restaurant is supposed to open this summer along with a few new shops.

:rotfl: I might be wrong but i heard hyou have to buy the 21.95 price to get into the adventure club or comedy club:banana:

We just LOVE the Adventurer's Club!! DH was actually willing to participate in the antics which is a rarity for him. He's more of the sit back and observe the people kind of guy. They do serve drinks but they seem to be the weaker in PI.

If you enjoy comedy clubs and are planning to hit Pleasure Island, then might I suggest buying the pass for $21.95 if you don't have the Magic Your Way with Waterparks and More pass. That way, you can pop in and out of the different clubs and get a good feel for all that PI has to offer.

My personal favourite is the Adventurers Club which is a very unique comedy/entertainment venue with a Disney twist. You won't find anything like this outside of Disney, and it also happens to be one of those places you either love or hate from the first time. (In case it wasn't apparent enough, I *heart* the AC.) There are different skits throughout the evening, with larger shows in the library including the end of evening Hoopla (Hoopla!) which has audience singalongs with the talented cast. There are a number of AC videos on YouTube if you want to see what it's all about before you pay the admission.

Have a great trip!

Does Pleasure Island still have that special they had a couple of years back where you could upgrade a single-night admission to a 5-day pass for only $5.00 more?

If you are going to go exclusively to the Comedy club and/or Adventurers Club, that is fine but if you are planning on just hanging out, don't go to PI. Since they stopped charging admission to get on the island, all the local teens hang out there and it is not fun!!

We went last year and saw 5 kids get thrown to the ground and arrested by Orlando cops right in front of us. Its definitely not Disney-esque like it used to be...and I loved it when i worked there back in the 90's...not the same.

I am a diehard Disney fan and don't usually "do" the other parks, but I have heard that if you want nightlife, go to Citywalk at Universal instead. More to do...less teens...etc.

Oh, and Raglan Road is good at PI too but the rest leave something to be desired, which is probably why Disney is slowly redoing it. I hope they figure out how to make it the way it was again. It's definitely not working now.

Or for $5 each plus the cost of parking ($5-10) you can go to Wall Street Plaza downtown and see a live band on the Plaza Stage, have a meal and check out the eight great bars and pubs, each with their own unique atmsphere:

Slingapour's
Monkey Bar
One Eyed Jack's
WaiTiki
Loaded Hog
Tuk Tuk Room
The Globe
Wall Street Cantina

I've been living in the Orlando area for going on two years, and have yet to bother to step foot into PI, but visit WSP fairly regularly. The admission is cheaper, the drinks are cheaper, the food is better, and frankly I haven't ever seen a band at PI worth seeing--but there are great bands at WSP.

I heard that the one club admission is not good for adventures club or the comedy club. You have to have the $20 ticket to get into those.

Bearette, not sure if the all-club pass is required for Adventurer's Club and the Comedy Club rather than a single-club ticket. I'll try to find out.

kstinw19, I disagree that Pleasure Island has become a teen hangout. I don't doubt what you saw; but whatever those "kids" did it must have been pretty serious to get pounced on by Orange County deputies. (not Orlando PD) Nonetheless, effective 1/1/07 all clubs became 21+ again following a few years where those under the drinking age could enter a few of the clubs. So there is no real reason for teens to hang out at PI. Sure, there will always be some.

The AC is fun occasionally - I've never found the Comedy Warehouse to be all that funny (maybe we went on bad nights).

My favorite place on PI is Raglan Road.

You're exactly right...when we were there last Oct we needed the $21.95 multi-club ticket to get into the Adventurers Club and were told we'd also need the same ticket to get into the Comedy Warehouse but you could get into any of the others for the $9.99 single club ticket.

Now that most clubs are 21+, there are guards IDing people at the entrances starting at around 11 or midnight. It's cutting down on the teen presence at PI. Not quite back to the turnstiles yet, but a step in the right direction.

I skipped this my wife and I were going to go but came down with a nasty cold on our honeymoon and were not in the mood for dancin and drinkin

Last time I went to PI (2006), I was completely turned off and swore that I would never return. I saw way too many kids and teens there, parents with small kids and strollers with drinks in there hands. I truly did not believe it was an environment for children to be in (rowdiness, swearing, drinking in the open). Of course, if a parent chooses to take their children to PI, that is their option to do so since Disney opened up that option. That being said, I am happy that they are implementing the 21+ rules again, and i might return on my upcoming trip. We were going to head to Citywalk in US because I had a blast the last time we were there, actually, far more fun than at PI. I am interested in trying the wallstreet plaza that ducklite recommended. It will be a nice change from the parks. But, if you do go to PI, I absolutely love the adventurers club - it was really entertaining - but be prepared for something a little different. It isn't a typical comedy club (which is why I think I liked it so much).

Cheers - Jo

I knew I read that somewhere about the one club ticket!

My mom and I thought about gooing to Pleasure Island, but the day we would have to go would be the day we arrive (flying all day from Ca). I didn't think we would last long enough to make the admission price worth it. So what is this Raglan Road and where is it?

Raglan Road is another bar at PI. To go in it though is free, no pass needed.

Currently, PI has a promotion, if you buy the 21.95 pass, it's good for admission to any PI bar through July 2007, here's the sign!

(I was just there in Jan with some friends).
