We need a pre-ABD hotel at DL for 2 nights.
We'll be staying at the Grand Californian during the ABD tour, so i figured i'd take this opportunity to try out a good neighbor hotel (and save some money while i'm at it).

I thought it would be nice to have breakfast included, which means the Best Western Park Place Inn vs the Residence Inn Anaheim Convention Center.

i know that BWPPI is right across the street, but is there a compelling reason i should prefer the residence inn despite the extra 10 minutes we'll have to walk?

or am i completely off the mark and you recommend something else entirely?

.

We haven't yet stayed at the Best Western PPI, but are planning to stay there in February. We have stayed at the Anaheim Convention Center Residence Inn. It's a really nice hotel and the breakfast was quite good, but I will say that the walk was longer than I thought it would be. It's certainly manageable, but after walking it multiple times during our visit there, we decided we wanted to be closer this time around.

thanks for your response!!
i'd really appreciate you posting your experience in February. We only go next October, so that will give me a chance to take your comparison into account.

Am I off my marbles or did someone mention that BWPPI doesn't have a hot breakfast anymore? Don't trust me on that, just thought I remembered someone saying that.

Park Vue removed hot breakfast items, perhaps that is the one you were thinking of.

that wouldn't be a deal breaker...
continental is fine...

BWPPI definitely has hot breakfast. We stayed there last month. I had ham, potatoes, scrambled eggs and French toast sticks. They have plenty of other choices and they are a lot closer than Paradise Pier and for me a much better value.

I'd absolutely choose BWPPI! The location is fantastic. The breakfast is typical for such places. I totally agree that for you, with a stay at GCH in the pipeline, going with an off-site property first is a great choice. I have to disagree that it's automatically a better value to stay off-site, though.

thanks for all the responses!
it seems i can't go wrong with either choice....
both of them are a fraction of the cost of any of the 3 disney properties...
and both are cheaper if i book them direct rather than through the disney website..

i'm really looking forward to this trip!!!

I normally stay at homewood suites with the kids. Last dec I stayed at BWPPI with my sib. We used to stay there all the time when I was closer to 30 than 40. Never again. Motels are just not my thing anymore. The doors are near the parking lot, people were constantly walking by talking loudly. It was hard to sleep even with white noise.

i think i'm going to book BWPPI, once the dates open for booking....

my only other thought was to book a hotel with club access, but i couldn't find one in proximity to the parks (other than the disney hotels themselves)..

We typically stay near the Convention center: Hyatt Place is are typical go to on points. Residence Inn too on points. the RI is quite new and great location. Yes, about 10min more walking.---end of day makes a huge difference.

If you want to use ToyStory bus, it saves about 10minutes walking for Hyatt Place and consider Homewood Suites if you want that route and hot breakfast.

We stayed at both the Fairfield anaheim and the BW Anaheim (just last month). Would agree that as we've aged, we've become less tolerant to motel living noise. Baggage rollers on the deck make tons of noise! Admittedly BW Anaheim is literally across the street and arguably just as close as VGC.

Parking is another issue with both BW so that may play into things if you have a car.

the homewood suites looks particularly interesting....
i didn't understand what you were saying about the toy story bus, so i looked it up and now i understand..
i guess if you stay at the homewood suites, you can hop on that bus, right?

hmmm.....homewood suites looks a bit nicer than BW....but maybe i'm being too picky for just two nights..

Correct. It's about a 15-20minute walk in the morning to the gates. It's a 5-7 minute walk from Homewood suites to the Toy story bus pickup spot and really depends on the line there for loading (which is a minimal wait most days as they usually have a good number of buses in the queue. I wished that Suites had a back door. It would save a good 3 minutes on the walk!

Yes, new hotel vs motel is a very hard decision. BW was adequate. Loved the location. Breakfast was tolerable for fuel and the beds were adequate. Nothing glowing, but not running away either. Just if you're 4* living style; BW is essentially glamping.

glamping!!!! :rotfl:
great description!!
well, for only 2 days even i can manage that, no? maybe...
DH and i are going on a 2 night cruise in 2 weeks that doesn't even reach glamping level i think (on the ship that used to be the thomson majesty)...
we're checking it our for the family....given our last cruise was on the disney magic, i fear i may be in for a disappointment..(understatement)...
