ok here's my story.....and it's a long one so stay with me....

it's our 25th wedding anniversary this year. and here's the conversation....

dh-what are we doing for our anniversary this year? ya know it's a big one!
me-yes, I DO know that!- get it!?
(sorry i just could not resist!)
dh-so lets go see the mouse!
me-are ya kiddin' me?
dh-you said every 2 years we would go.
me-yes i did say that, but i thought.......you would not want to???
dh-are you crazy? of course i want to go. and don't you want to go?
me-well yea i do, but..... i have not been planning or anything.
dh-ok if you don't want to that's ok. i just thought....
me-well wait a sec...i do but i'm a planner and i have not been planning so i don't know if i can throw a trip together in this short of a time......and how much is it going to be......and do you want to stay here or here and do this or this or how about this......
dh-walks away shaking his head, mumbling something like......oh boy......


so am i crazy? can i put a trip together for august in such a short time? do i need to do my overplanning thing? can i wing it? and where should we stay??
he said it's all up to me. he'll stay where ever his head lands!

help. someone give me some feedback. please tell me what you would do?

You can put together a trip for August no problem- we will help if you need it. Plus in August you can get free dining if you want too. Depending on when you are going you might be able to meet up with those of us at SDV.

Yes! You can do it! If a DH offers a trip to Disney, you can't say no!

On our last trip we only had 2 months notice for DH to get time off, so WDW was the only thing we considered, because it's the only trip I can plan on short notice.

It is definitely doable to do short term planning. On Christmas 2002, my parents and DH and I decided to go to WDW. We were there the last week of Jan 2003, and we booked a cruise.

I wouldn't wait to long though, because if you do free dining in August, the window for restaurant reservations will be opening this month.

thanks Ladies! i knew you guys would get it! we should just go. i'm just a little worried because i have always been the one who plans like forever before hand. maybe this will be different for me, to just go without months and months of planning.

I like Wilderness Lodge because everything is under one roof and it isn't as expensive as the other deluxe hotels. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is the next on my list to stay at.

My Sister loves the Port Orleans Riverside. Her girls love the AKL and POP.

How long are you staying, what time frame are you going?

Holly, you have to go!!!! If DH wants to go, then take him up on the offer. You will be able to plan the trip and you'll have a great time!!!

As for where to stay, I love Animal Kingdom Lodge. For the moderates, we like Coronado Springs the best.

well our last trip we did 10 days and enjoyed that little bit more than the week. only because we usually have to have one *down*day. so just throwing ideas out there last night, we are thinking 9 days. i'd love to do the free dining, so that would mean after August 16th.
we have always stayed at the CB. and in '07 we did PO Riverside and while it was nice, i did not LOVE it. if ya know what i mean. and we also did the Poly.which i did LOVE! 5 days @ each. I'd love to try something new this time. My ultimate goal is to stay at the all!!!! DH said he'd like to try WL. And since it's him that started this thing, that's kinda where I'm thinking.

Good luck w/ the planning.. DH and I are taking the kids next summer..and we have decided to plan but not over think it and enjoy the moments and memories together. DH is a fly by the seat kind of guy..and let me tell you.. his whims got us GREAT seats for 2 parades and we didn't sit for hours getting them... We usually stay in a pool home so we can swim till all hours, make our own meals and just chill...but next year we are meeting my sis and her new hubby there and they are taking in one of our kids for housing so we can stay on site.. with a family of 5 rooms are hard to come by on a budget like ours...but I say go and enjoy!!!!

The Wilderness Lodge is great- was one of our favorite deluxes (Of course we haven't stayed at them all yet) If you can swing it I would say that is the place to go. Even if you dates don't overlap SDV I would love to see you while you are there.

UM HELLLOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I just planned a weekend get away with my hubby with 2 weeks notice. We can sooo plan a trip for you with 3 1/2 months notice. Just make sure it's the same weekend as SDV so we can all see you!!!!!!!!

So I had no idea about this SDV until I saw this thread, and then I realized that my vacation dates overlapped it. And I got really excited - until I remembered that I was going with DBF, and he would not for the life of him want to go to (1) the parks alone (2) the crops with me. So.... alas. I will have to settle for just being there at the EXACT SAME TIME... by pure chance.



ETA: As I'm sure anyone on here who knows me will tell you, I whipped out the plans for my trip in about a week. Granted, this was in February, but I still did it. And after that, I just tweaked them a bit, but it turned out that I picked almost everything the best that I could have. And with free dining, it's a great deal.

Oooooh what fun Holly!!! Another vote for Wilderness Lodge here. I wouldn't have chosen it on my first visit, but DH wanted to stay there. He didn't really have much say in anything else so I let him have the Lodge. I must say that I was impressed with his choice!

Definitely go, Holly!! You are so lucky to have a DH that suggests going to Disney. Mine's dragged kicking and screaming.

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in February and loved it. Are you taking the little guy with you? If so, I'm sure he'd love staying in the "big log cabin". Have fun planning!
