I live on a golf course, and the people playing on it seem to be getting ruder by the day. Today a guy drove his cart up not four feet from my house (It's over 40 feet from my house to the edge of the course.) As he was getting ready to swing his club at the ball--which would have torn up my yard I came out the door and asked him if he wanted to take his cart off my lawn NOW or go to jail for trespass. He had the NERVE to tell me I ruined his swing. I stormed back inside and called the clubhouse and gave them the guys cart number and told the super to either get the guy off the course or I'd call the cops.

Not half an hour later I had two beautiful sand cranes peacefully grazing on the rough--about 40 feet to the side of one of the tees. Not in anyone's way. I was watching them on and off, I think they are magnificient creatures. Next thing you know, so jerk drives up on a cart and starts chasing them with his club! I yelled out to him that if he didn't leave them alone I'd call the cops and have him arrested--it's against the law to disturb wildlife in this state.

What the heck is wrong with these people?

I used to live on a golf course once, I HATED it you are right about rude golfers!! we ended up moving just to get away from it

I would be furious. I doubt there's anyone in today but here's the number of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission 863-648-3203.

It's illegal to harass, hunt, trade, capture or feed a Florida sandhill crane. There are several subspecies of sandhill cranes. Some states allow hunting some of those. Not Florida.

Too bad being a moron isn't against the law too.

Well, I golf a lot, and at resort courses a lot. I would never hit a ball in someones yard....But, I gotta tell ya...If I got that particular ultimatum, "take his cart off my lawn NOW or go to jail for trespass"...I wouldnt have taken kindly to it.

Some golfers are clueless.....Heck, there's golfers I know who only golf once a year, on vacation......

You give me that warning and you better be prepared for the reply.

Could you put u[ a small low to the ground decorative fence or border to stop them from driving on your lawn?

And you for jail. Fortunately all the carts are numbered, so it's very easy to make sure the police can find the right person. Last weekend I had a guy thrown off the course for driving his cart on my lawn, then teking a huge divet out of it with his club. When I asked him to get off my lawn, he got nasty with me. I called the super. The super came out with another employee, they left with the golfer in the supers cart and the other employee driving the offending jerks cart.

There's no reason to drive a cart 40 feet onto someones lawn, and no reason to swing on someone's lawn, not four feet from their house. It's rude, disrespectful, and inexcusable. If they can see their ball from teh course and come six feet onto the lawn to toss it back into play on the course, I don't care. But I'm tired of them treating my lawn like their own private course.

Like I said, some people are just clueless on golf course ettiquite.

If it were me, I'd probably tell a guy face to face that it isnt proper to hit a ball from my lawn on private property. Heck, he'd learn something.

And here's a little secret....The police don't give a rats hind end if some idiot hits his ball in your yard.

But they do care if you make a trespass complaint. Trust me, his "rats behind" would be in jail for that, especially because he didn't leave immediately when I told him to get off my property. That's a FELONY here in Florida, and seeing as how he responded in a manner that I could consider threatening and with a golf club in his hand, I'd be within my rights to plant a .45 slug between his eyes. He's trespassing on my property and threatening me with a lethal weapon, it's self-defense. Is dying worth a pentalty stroke? I guess some golfers aren't just rude, they're STUPID too!

Anne

Wow! Is this a case of the "world revolves around me" attitude?
I mean, I know the golfers pay a nice bit of money to play, but don't be rude to the homeowners. Geesh!

That sounds horrible! I'm sorry you have to deal with this :(.

I didn't know it was against the law. I tried to feed the sand cranes. I tried bread and ham. They wouldn't touch it.

Is the course private Anne? That would make a difference maybe. In any event it blows my mind that they would come on to what is obviously your property and attempt a swing. I would be inclined to plant a "blocker" - something with thorns - maybe hedge roses. You can prune them fairly short so they don't obstruct your view.

I'm going to keep this for future reference, thanks!

Actually it would be a misdemeanor and not a felony for trespassing. Also, I believe you must have signs posted that state no trespassing. I also don't think that a golf club would be considered a deadly weapon. Especially since you have the opportunity to escape into your home and call the police. Now if he is in your home menacing you with the golf club, that would be a different scenario. So I don't think shooting him would be the way to go.

(b) If the offender defies an order to leave, personally communicated to the offender by the owner of the premises or by an authorized person, or if the offender willfully opens any door, fence, or gate or does any act that exposes animals, crops, or other property to waste, destruction, or freedom; unlawfully dumps litter on property; or trespasses on property other than a structure or conveyance, the offender commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

We have to many bushes along the property line for golfers to get carts through but it doesnt stop them from walking in our yard, my mom has a fit when they walk on her flowers, my mom complained and the golf course put up big ugly plastic poles to tell the golfers where the property line was.
like that stops them.

I agree that the golfer was rude, but it doesn't give anyone the right to shoot him. It is only considered self defense if you had no option of getting away.

There are signs posted that state very clearly that golfers are to not enter peoples yards or leave the course with the carts.

If I tell someone to get off my property, and they start cursing me with a gold club in thier hand, I would certainly feel threatened and be within my right to defend myself and my property.

776.013 Home protection; use of deadly force; presumption of fear of death or great bodily harm.--
(3) A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.

For the record, I don't own a gun, but you'd think that these idiots would have the common sense to stop and think that the next guy might.

Maybe I'll just mace them instead. Now that would ruin a guys day... :lmao:

That was my first thought. I have a close friend who was brutally, brutally raped. Since then she has spent years becoming an excellent marksman. She owns several guns, has completed many, many training courses and practices with regularity.

She is always armed at her home. Anyone who threatens her is going to end up DEAD.

She is not a hunter. She told me that she has never killed anything, but would not hesitate for a second to defend herself. She has learned the hard way not to "wait and see" if a threat will go away. Not a mistake she will make a second time.

That's not true. In the majority of states, you can use deadly force if you reasonably believe that someone is going to cause you serious injury. And a golf club can cause serious injury or death, so it *can* be a deadly weapon. In a few states, you do have to try and get away if it's safe BUT that does not apply to your own home.

Whether or not the OP over-reacted, if I was on someone else's property and got yelled at, I'd leave. I have zero rights to be there. I would *never* scream back.
