So should I modify my reservations?

We reserved a two-bedroom at VWL in October. We can fit in a 1-br comfortably but knew that someone in DH's family would be coming with us so went with the 2-br. So now his brother, wife and two kids have committed. Question is, do I need to call and put their names on the reservation? I only ask because I am unsure of how requests work. With the original reservation I requested non-smoking, pool view. If I call to add their names, does my reservation get put to the bottom of the list again, so to speak.

I'm not sure if I worded this correctly so that you all know what I mean but basically, if I call to make a change to my reservation, does it diminish my chances of getting my original requests? (We are arriving around noon time so are hoping for an early check-in but are willing to wait to get our requests).

Also I've read about not wanting to get a handicapped room with small kids. Are there a lot of these rooms at VWL? Is that something I should also put on my reservation?

Thank you!!!

I'm not following you. You have a 2br reserved for all of you? And you want to change that to a 1br?

When are you going? We tried to add a few days onto our 1br in October and nothing was available anywhere except a 2br at OKW.

We requested non-smoking, non-handicap because we want to have the big bath tub. DH will need it and our kids love it.

Those are the only 2 requests we made. I wanted to make pool view but I don't want that to goof up my chances for non-smoking, non-handicap.

I'm not sure if changing requests puts you at the bottom of the list for getting those. If it did then I wouldn't change anything. Chances are you will have a good view. What if they have a pool view and it is a handicap room, etc. Just request what is most important to you.

As far as putting their name on the reservation-if you have a 2br then, yes, I would call and add them on. You mention moving into a 1br-If I read correctly you have too many people for a 1br.

Have a good time.:D

floridafam,

No, we don't want to change to a 1-br. I'm just wondering if by making any change to our reservations (in this case, adding four people), does it affect my chances of my original requests?

Also, do they need to be on my reservations if we're all checking in together or does it really matter?

Thank you!!!

Okay, now I understand.

I don't know if they should be on the reservation or not and if adding them would change the priority you have in getting your requests honored.

I'm sure someone here will know. :D

I don't think adding your guests to the reservation will affect the rerquests you've made. However, Disney's request honoring system is so screwy that I don't think anyone can answer that question for sure.

Personally, I don't think it's necessary to add the guests to the reservation if you don't want to take the chance. As long as you are checking in together, you can just request however many room keys you need at the front desk.

Okay, thank you both for your replies.

Sorry about the confusion on the 1-br/2-br part, I should have left it out. It's just that we reserved the 2-br thinking my mil was coming, she backed out, then my sil was coming, she backed out. It was killing me that we were using points for a 2-br if we didn't really need it!! Fortunately my bil and family committed and now we are really looking forward to it. It's their first time to Disney so we can't wait. Thanks again!

I would definitely contact Member Services - phone or email - & add the names of the additional four guests to your reservation. If for any reason you all do not check in together, then your guests can get room keys.

On our last trip my sister & niece decided a few days before we left to join us at OKW. I called MS to add their name to our reservation. I didn't have to add my niece since she is only six years old, but I wanted to be sure she got her own non-charging room key.

okay - now is your brother going to want to use his credit card - then you need to call back - ask for a 2-bedroom lock-out - have them lock the rooms - one will be a studio and the other a 1-bedroom - have his name put on the studio - yours on the 1-bedroom - then he can use his credit card and you can use yours - if you and him want to share the access to the livingroom - you can easily unlock the doors. but if you don't - I happen to like my privacy - you don't have too.

but since you are the member - I would think you would definitely want the 1-bedroom part.

of course you can go my cheap route - get both family separate studios.....

To the best of my recollection, I have heard several members on this board stating that the time at which you check-in will actually determine to a great extent how many of your requests are met.

For example:

Person A and B: Request a 1br, non-smoking, Pool View room. Person B called their reservation in after Person A, but arrive at the front desk to check in before Person A.

There are two rooms left - both 1br, both non-smoking, but one is a pool view, and the other is an Epcot view. Person B's requests would be fulfilled, while Person A will have to take the Epcot view.

At leas this is how I remember it. There are no pre-assignment of rooms.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you call in and amend your reservation you will have no less of a chance of obtaining your requests.

I would add them which you can do by phone, email or when you check in. Best to do it by email. If they might arrive before you, make sure you add them before arrival.

Spiceycat,

ask for a 2-bedroom lock-out - have them lock the rooms - one will be a studio and the other a 1-bedroom - have his name put on the studio - yours on the 1-bedroom - then he can use his credit card and you can use yours

If you do this, will they charge you the points of 2 seperate rooms (1 studio and 1 1-bdrm) or can you keep the pricing of the 2BDR and just seperate them for purposes of room keys (2 different credit cards)? I am going to BWV for the first time next year with my cousin and their kids. We are sharing a 2 BDR (they are taking the studio piece) and I would love for them to be able to use their key to charge and I can use my own key to charge.

I don't think you can get separate credit card or keys without paying the slightly higher points. If you do it this way, you might not be in the same unit.

We did this last year at both OKW and BWV and we were NOT able to get separate keys or charge to separate credit cards.

Beware the HC rooms. They have weird layouts and all the "stuff" -- switches, controls. etc -- are low for wheelchair folks and little kids can get at EVERYTHING! When you check in, ASK -- sometimes they forget to tell you it's a HC room. If it is one, you can politely say "no." And yes, it is a reasonable thing to request "not a HC room please." In addition, I believe a HC room would be less an issue in your larger room. There would still be one tub for baths, for example, in the master suite. It's in the studios that the accessible room really "confuses" things, as these rooms are small to begin with.

Have fun!

melk, a while back, i also had the same question you mentioned in your original post. so i had emailed MS to inquire, and they told me that if you make any modifications to your original reservation, that will not change the fact that you first booked the reservation a long time ago.
so you will still have the same priority as far as room requests being granted.

now... the other question is... are they actually assigning rooms / granting requests based on seniority of date of reservation? or are resorts now just assigning you a room based on what time of day you check-in? this is something that seems impossible to figure out for sure, since there are so many conflicting reports.

If your ressie says "2 br dedicated", you need not worry about HC rooms. There are no 2 br dedicated HC rooms.

As for adding people, I'd just do it at the desk when you check in. THey ask you anyway, and it's not like they are going to "charge you more pts" or anything, so long as you're within occupancy limits! And adding more folks at this pt won't "help" your ressie in any way, so why bother changing it.

And make sure that you remind the desk you have others checking in, and make sure your other family knows WHOSE NAME the ressie is under. Last year, my bil and sil and nephew waited in the WL lobby for over an hour b/c the desk claimed there was no one by my dh's name registered there. (Ressie was OF COURSE in MY name... my dh has no clue how to even dial MS, much less make a ressie! THat's MY job!! :) We do share the same last name, but for whatever reason, the desk (nor my in-laws) didn't ask if they knew a "Cindy" by that name... only looked for a Richard, and finding none, quit looking. Fortunately, bil was able to track me down via cell phone or they would have waited even longer. At least it was in the WL -- I love that place!)
