My dad just let me know today that one of his step-great-grandchildren was killed in an accidental shooting at home. He was 2 and he or one of his two siblings discharged the loaded handgun that they found lying on the bed
. Their mother apparently was in the other room. It is not known which child actually pulled the trigger. Not that it matters. So traumatic for the 2 that lived through it, tragic for the one who was killed. The parents were charged today with failing to secure a firearm. I just cannot understand why you would have a loaded gun in a house with young children, and if you did have one, why it would not be secured in some way. I didn't know this child, but the whole thing breaks my heart and I feel so sad for my dad, as he is close to this family. It makes me worry even more about all the dangers my children could encounter in this life.
