So sad abt Le Cellier:((((

We ate there on Nov.29, and as usual, it was delicious! Everyone in our party of 6 thought it was the best meal of the trip! And, BTW, I think they have some of the nicest CMs at any TS restaurant in the park! (not a knock against the others; we've just always had the best servers at LeCellier!)

We were there in December and were disappointed in both our meals and the service. It wasn't bad - just disappointing... we have come to expect so much more and it just wasn't there. Our filets at Kona were so much better! One of our favorite appetizers, the salmon timbale has been removed and that is very disappointing as well. This is on our must-do list for every trip, but after our December visit, if we get there fine, and if we don't, then that's fine, too.

We were there on Dec. 10th and it was absolutely wonderful. We were there for the CP and our meal was terrific, service was great, all in all a great night.

Actually the review on DU wasn't that negative about it - basically he just said that they were disappointed with the appetizers but the rest was fine ("ok to good" I believe).

Hi folks...I'm Kevin...the restaurant reviewer for the DIS Unplugged

I was diappointed in the appetizers. They were awful. I said the rest was "ok to good."

My point was that Le Cellier does not deserve the iconic status it has. It's an ok restaurant. Dining there will not make your vacation nor is the reverse true....not getting an ADR will not ruin your vacation.

There are approximately 25 tables in Le Cellier. Thats it. It gets crowded based on size and not necessarily "awesome" food.

I think this is a restaurant that people have turned into something it's really not. It's not the most amazing restaurant in the world. I dont even think it's currently the best restaurant in Epcot. It's an OK restaurant...plain and simple.

I also preface all of my reviews with the facts that the review is based on one visit and it is my opinion. You should visit and make your own opinion. If we agree....aesome....if we dont....thats good too. It's just an opinion.

It was beautifully presented, but the presentation made it hard to eat. They basically put two bunches of uncut romaine on the plate and drizzled it with dressing; it was topped with a parmesan cheese crisp and chicken breast. The salad looked wonderful, but with the whole leaves of lettuce it was hard to navigate on the plate. I had to cut the leaves up one by one and then attempt to coat them with the dressing. It tasted good too, but was hard to eat.

I am not a fan of this place. Been there twice for lunch, and found the Chicken Caesar salad just like the above poster wrote--plus the dressing was inedible. I actually sent it back to the kitchen for new greens.
Second trip I had the chicken sandwich--it was awful. Dried up chicken on untoasted english muffin bread. Bread actually was in slabs. Kids burgers had greasy cheese and burger grease running down the side despite requesting no cheese. All fries were cold.
Cheese soup was good.
My mistake is that I have not been there for dinner. However for those prices I would rather go to Jiko or other Signature Dining restaurant and not have so many people so close.
I find the place (LeCellier) to be depressing and the tables to be too close together. Can't walk to the restroom without bumping into tables. (and I'm "normal" sized.)

Just frees up ADRs for the fans.

I have since gone and found your original review and read it.

I realize this is just your opinion, but I disagree with most of your conclusions.
There are plenty of ADR's that I couldn't get, but that doesn't equal a good restaurant. Does anyone really think CRT is so hard to get ADR's to because the food is great? A quick search here will tell you that is not the case.
As I think I mentioned on that thread, we are lovers of great restaurants and in the industry, and I had a phenomenal meal at Le Cellier. Fantastic. Incredible. Better than many meals I have had at 3x the price.
I understand that maybe it is not everyone's taste though, and since it is staffed by humans there is plenty of room for error and occasional bad meals.
I see raves for CG and that was one of the worst experiences I have ever endured - but I wouldn't publish a column based on my one experience, even with a disclaimer.

We ate there on Dec. 14th and it was DELICIOUS  :worship: :worship:

We made ressies there again for our next trip. The cream cheese mash potatoes are great.  :lovestruc

well, you have some company in the "not a big fan" club (& this from repeated visits........we thought perhaps we were missing something :confused3 )
service has always been good to very good:thumbsup2 , but the food is too mundane and uninspired for our tastes. we agree, it is worthy of a visit (never found the food actually bad, just boring), but certainly not even close to being one of the best restaurants on property.

opinions are just that........& thank goodness we have different ones, it leaves more ADRs for restaurants each of us does enjoy. :thumbsup2

phenomenal, fantastic, incredible.

Wow.

And it was better than meals you've had a 3 times the price????

Our meal was $240 for four people so that would be a $720 meal by your calculations.

Must be eating in some pretty pricey places. And to think....they got beaten by theme park food.

I'd be mighty annoyed if I was dropping $720 bucks for dinner and then thought theme park food was better.:rolleyes1

Hmmm.

And Cinderella's Royal Table is in a Castle with characters...pretty rarified real estate. Le Cellier is a small, dark restaurant under the Canada Pavillion. I'm not sure I see a comparison

We were there Christmas Eve and we enjoyed it very much. The only thing I didn't care for the the cheese soup (I knew this from time prior we were there) and the duck appetizer. It was too salty and just not what I expected.
But the meal itself was great and Yes we will be going back.

Everyone has their own opinion. I've read so many great reviews about Boma and I hated it. I read so many negative reviews on 'Ohana and we loved it. You just have to try it for yourself.

I have been to Le Cellier a few times and thought the food was pretty good overall, but it was better back in the days when the menu was a little more daring.......remember the salmon timbale??? Our experiences have ranged from awesome to just ok; hipchickie obviously had one of those awesome experiences and shared it with us by describing how she felt about it (I am glad she had such a wonderful meal). I would not discredit her description of her experience, she is entitled to her opinion. Your opinion does not trump hers, as you stated in an earlier post, "I also preface all of my reviews with the facts that the review is based on one visit and it is my opinion."

We should not build our view of a restaurant based on the musings of a single person, but rather take the reviews to heart so we can know what to expect, experience the restaurant ourselves, and finally, form an opinion based on our personal experience.

:thumbsup2

I'm a bit confused by this - isn't that the definition of a "review" - your impressions based on an experience? Why not share your CG experience?

We loved Le Cellier! We had dinner on our last trip...I think dh had the Prime Rib and I had the Filet with the risotto...and I am still dreaming about that filet! It was soooo good!:worship:

We weren't able to get dinner this trip, but the lunch menu looked great, so we are trying that out...I am such a meat and potatoes gal...I didn't care which meal it was!::yes::

Boy Kevin- pretty sarcastic for a mod - doesn't that go against the TOS?

But to answer your post, yes, I have eaten at more than one venue that had a (sometimes prix fixe) price of over $160 a head, which was approximately the cost of our meal for 3 people. And comparitively the meal was lackluster, overreaching, and underwhelming.

Unfortunately some people mistake being a foodie with being a snob. A very "mundane" (to quote another poster) menu can be have well thought out and balanced dishes, perfectly prepared, excellently presented, served by knowlegeable and attentive staff. Rarely do we find a place that has all of that, with an ability to satisfy me (a vegetarian), my husband (omnivore), and, importantly, my son ( a 6 year old). :thumbsup2

Some chefs equate good real estate, trendy food pairings and unique china with a good meal - it just isn't, though plenty of the snobs will be fooled. Some of my other top 10 meals were at a roadside clam shack, as well as The French Laundry. Price and venue are not a requirement.

And please don't take this so personally, I don't mind debating you, but if all you are going to do is rolleyes and be sarcastic there is no point.

If you read any well known reviewer, you will find that they base the review on several visits - one visit does not acurately portray a restaurant. They may present one visit in the review, but they will have been there other times.

I don't mind posting my one experience at CG, since I am not a "restaurant reviewer", but that is not the topic of this thread

We just ate there on Tuesday (Jan 8th) and both my husband and I thought it was delicious. :)

I had the Cheese soup (which was fabulous) and the filet mignon with wild mushroom risotto.

My husband had the salmon, squash risotto (?) and the side of mashed potatoes.

The portions weren't huge, but they were more than adequate. Neither of us ordered dessert because we were too stuffed. :upsidedow

We both enjoyed the atmosphere and thought the service was great.

Definitely got an A+ from both of us. :thumbsup2

I ate at Le Cellier about once each year for the past 3 yrs. My last visit was after the previous chef moved on to Jiko. I noticed a decline in the service and quality this past visit. I had the mussels, I was disappointed, they were in a heavy bacon cream sauce that did not do anything for the mussels. My daughter had the tomatoe stack with mozzarella cheese, and while the tomatoes were seasoned perfectly, they came with 2 small balls of mozzarella, usually you expect to see a little more cheese. The risotto with her salmon was just awful. The steaks were good, as were the desserts. But I won't be in any hurry to return. Lecellier is taken out of the rotation for me for a while.
The waitress also took away our appetizers while we still had our mouths full.

Well said hipchickie.......wonderful food and exquisite service are not exclusive to 5 star or 5 diamond venues. Seems so many people today believe hype rather than substance when it comes to food trends, food value and service. Some of the worst food and worst service I have had the displeasure of experience have been from places with "reputation". Just because the meal cost $500 a head (like many do) does not guarantee food that tastes good!

:thumbsup2

I have never been impressed by Le Cellier, but if it's your favorite then go anyway! If you're really worried, then make a back-up reservation (using a different phone number) for another restaurant for your second planned meal there.
