I am so exicted! We just booked the 7 day east cruise using our points. I know that some would argue that the cruise isn't the most economical way to use points, but this way we are able to take our 2 kids and my in-laws. We would have never been able to come up with the cash for all of us. Hubby and I just kept saying after we booked, "Boy, buying DVC was the smartest thing we've ever done!" (We go to WDW every other year and then use the points elsewhere in between). I'm a happy girl.:bounce:

Congratulations, Laurie!

They are YOUR points to use as YOU want, right?!?

I can completely relate - we did the cruise back in 1998, and would have NEVER done it without our points!

Have a GREAT time - I hope to do the 7-day some day....

Wonderful news Laurie!! As the other poster said, they are your points. We are taking a cruise too. We would never be able to afford the $$ for the three of us, but we can afford to use the pts. Have a wonderful!! time.

Laurie,

I am sure you will have a "great cruise"!!It doesn't matter how you booked it. Just enjoy the cruise!!
We are going on our 1st cruise in Feb 2004 and can't wait.

We did our first cruise in August 2000, all on points. We too could have never afforded the cash for the cruise, so points was the only way to convince DW Sue to go. One word of warning. Once the cruise bug hits, you might just be able to find the money to cruise again (and again and again).

Bon Voyage and have a great time Laurie.

We view our points the same way. We bought them to book a vacation without the need to outlay any cash.

It's wonderful that you're able to treat your inlaws as well. It's so painless when it's done with points.

It took us 10 years to branch out and book outside of the DVC resorts. It's kind of fun to do other things with the points.

You're going to love the cruise!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Congratulations!

I agree with those people who say you shouldn't buy DVC points just for the purpose of taking DCL cruises -- if for no other reason than that there's no guarantee from year to year how many points it will take, or even whether the cruise-on-points program will continue to be offered.

But once you're a DVC owner, you get an allotment of points every year -- and it's up to you to figure out how to turn those points into great vacations. Perhaps one year it's a long stay in a studio during a low season; another year it's a short stay in a Grand Villa with relatives. And at some point, a Disney Cruise may be your best choice.

We used points for our Disney Cruise earlier this year. Instead of writing a check for over $6 thousand, we used DVC. At the time we booked, we had to pay a $75 service charge. That was our entire incremental cost above the costs were were incurring anyway for DVC ownership and dues. Sure, we gave up a lot of potential nights at a DVC resort, but we got a great cruise in return.

Have fun!

Congratulations! We are doing the 7 day Western Caribbean cruise on points next July!
