So much for the Merida makeover

((STANDING & CLAPPING)))

After seeing my little girl's tear-filled reaction to the makeover, I cannot WAIT to give her this news!

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

So, can we get rid of the proposed makeovers of the others? Especially Pocahontas.

Made-over Merida looked like a plastic surgeon got ahold of her :lmao: thank heavens she was able to "reverse the procedure";)

:confused3 Am I the only one who didn't think that much of the this? I didn't see the big fuss over the makeover. ... I've raised 2 girls too!

Maybe it's just me???

:confused3

I definitely didn't think the makeover was as big of deal as it was made out to be. What about the redesign of all the other princesses?

We shall see what happens with the new Merida...

Thank God. I thought I was the only one who didn't think it was a big deal... :confused3 Whatever... I like Merida. Hot or not. haha

I didn't care for any of the redesigned princesses, it took the magic away for me and I definetly didn't like what they did to Meridiapixiedust:

Not just you.

Unfortunately (maybe) for those who did see it as a big deal, without Disney putting out an official statement, I wouldn't give too much credit to these reports that they've "killed" the makeover. They seem to be basing this on the fact that the old Pixar version of Merida is still on Disney's USA website, but the new makeover version doesn't seem to have been pulled -- there's no evidence (that I've been able to find, anyway) that it was ever there. People are just seeing the kerfluffle and going to the website and assuming Disney pulled the new version. Not necessarily so. The "new" Merida is still pictured on Disney's Australia/New Zealand website. I'd wait for a statement from Disney before getting too excited. :confused3

I can't speak for every mother/daughter out there but I know that Merida affected my DD differently than every other Princess with the notable exception of Mulan. (Mulan kicks butt & takes names; she worked hard in the name of honor & respect for one's family.)

Her relationship with this character is a lot more personal to her & obviously a lot of that has to do with her being a redhead herself.;)

After we saw the movie, it was Merida's tenacity, bravery & willingness to stand out as different that my DD noticed, commented on & admired. The fact that she was more concerned with her target practice than the frizz in her hair spoke volumes to her.

She enjoys the other princesses, but she doesn't take them seriously since they seem to rely heavily on their relationships with men to make things happen in their lives or for their lives to have value at all. Cinderella? Whatever in my house, although we enjoy her furry friends. Aurora? Ha!! Pocohantas was all cool in her book until she started learning history & understood the discrepencies between reality & the movie.

But Merida? She stands up for herself & fights for her own freedom & openly mocks the idea that she needs a male companion to have worth. "I am Merida & I'll be shooting for my OWN hand!"

So when Disney stuffed her into this makeover to "make" her fit in with their Princessy Image, she took it personally. The Merida she "knows" wouldn't take that lying down & IN FACT rebelled against a makeover IN THE MOVIE. She rips through the dress symbolically in a way that shows she will not be put into that kind of mold.
