what do I do with them?

we leave in a couple weeks for a cruise/wdw trip. I have tags sent by DCL and tags sent by Disney world. I know I've read previously that we cannot use the Disney world tags because of U.S. customs... ie we need to claim our bags and take them to the magical express when we arrive, so they are essentially free souvenirs.

What about our dcl tags? Are they required in order to properly route the luggage to our stateroom? So do I need to bring the tags along and then use them when we go to our port transfer?

Any info from experienced fellow Canadian dissers would be appreciated. Thanks!

We can use DME, I've never picked up my own luggage at the Orlando airport - what airport are you flying out of? As long as you clear customs in Canada (which is the case at most big airports, no?) you can use DME.

You need to tell us a couple more things.

1. What airport are you leaving from. Will you preclear customs at that airport?

2. What is your first destination- WDW or the ship. How are you getting there?

3. Which tags are you specifically asking about- ME tags, DCL tags, WDW souvenir tags?

From our experience: We flew from T.O. to WDW and then went to the ship.
We attached our WDW souvenir luggage tags to each suitcase (basic luggage ID) as well as our ME tags since we precleared US customs in TO. Didn't have to even think about the bags again- they showed up in our hotel room 3 hrs after we checked in. When it was time to go to the ship we removed the old ME tags and replaced them with the DCL tags. At the ship we dropped off our bags before boarding and they magically appeared in our stateroom.

Yeah, generally you'll pre-clear US customs before departing. There are exceptions, like the United flight from YEG to IAH that leaves at 11:55 PM. It's the only US flight at that hour, so we had to do the US customs/go through security, etc, in Houston. If you have checked bags you have to retrieve it before doing US security. :)

Everyone, including Canadians flying from a Canadian airport, can use the Disney world (Magical Express) luggage tags. In fact, it's the best part of the service! You don't have to lug your bags through the airport. It's very civilized .

Okay, Sorry I was light on the details in my initial post. I tend to "forget" details and get fast and loose with my grammar when posting from my phone.

Anyhow, we are flying directly from Winnipeg international airport to MCO. There is US Customs pre-clearance out of the local airport, so I will be clearing customs prior to arriving in the US.

We are spending 1 night at Pop Century before being picked up the following day for our cruise transfers. So we will be arriving later in the day, taking Magical Express to POP, then checking out the following day to head to Port Canaveral.

Now, I'm not sure if the luggage tags I got are "Magical Express" luggage tags, or just the "souvenir" ones... They are red holographic mickey heads, where you would insert a hand written traveler information/destination card. They came along with a book detailing our itinerary and containing a bunch of coupons.

These are the ONLY luggage tags I have received from WDW Resorts so I just assumed these are the ME Tags. Are the ME tags different? Do they usually ship separate from the booklet/souvenir tags?

And sorry about the double/repeating post to start off the thread, half the time I don't know what I'm doing on that stupid phone.

The tags you received are souvenir tags, not the DME tags. The DME tags are sort of like the ones airlines will tag your luggage with - long strips of paper that you put around the handle of your suitcase and then stick the ends together. They are yellow and have your hotel name on them and a barcode. It will come in an envelope from the DME along with a booklet with tickets for the DME in it. Since you are preclearing Customs in Winnipeg, you can use the DME tickets and will not have to pick up your luggage in Orlando (unless of course you are arriving late, I believe it is after 10pm - someone else will chime in/or check the info in the DME book as it says it there).

That said, you also don't have to use the tags. If you don't put them on, then you just collect your luggage at the airport, then head to the DME desk downstairs.

How long are you till your trip, when did you receive your Disney package info with the other tags? We got our DME package about 35 days prior to our trip.

Well, it's a bit screwy as far as timeline goes. I booked my Cruise and follow up WDW stay back in June. Because I wanted to make sure we don't miss the cruise departure, our flight arrives a day before the cruise. Up until recently I was undecided on where to stay the night before cruise, but when faced with a 160$ difference between staying at Hyatt, or at a Disney value, I decided on Value. I booked my 1 night value room only on 12/28/12.

So, here's how it goes is,

arrive in Orlando 01/23 (flight eta 7:30 PM approx at MCO),
take DME to POP for 1 night
take DCL transfer to Port Canaveral
take DCL transfer back to WDW and stay there for 7 nights
take DME back to airport, etc.

I guess it might be another week or two before I get my ME tickets, because my first night's stay was booked so late. Should I call guest services and make sure that the DME tags are en-route?

I would GREATLY prefer to have Magical express handle my luggage since we're getting in later in the day and leaving the following day.

Thanks again.

If you need to clear or reclear customs in Orlando you have three choices for Magical Express:

1. (arrivals before 10 PM only) At the customs station put the bags on the other conveyor belt and proceed directly to the Magical Express welcoming area.

2. Take the bags with you out of the customs station and over to the DME welcoming area.

3. At the customs station put the bags without yellow tags (or after 10 PM with or without yellow tags) on the other conveyor belt and then go to the carousels to claim your bags again.

The procedure inside the customs station is similar to that if you clear customs somewhere else besides Orlando. Minor differences are such things as giving the bags to an agent instead of putting them on "the other" conveyor belt.

The suggestion has been made to put on the DME or Disney Cruise line tags at the customs station but you can do that earlier, at home, if that is more convenient.

It is important to remove old tags before the next leg of your trip. Specifically you need to take the yellow DME tags off in your resort room before putting on the blue DCL tags for your upcoming cruise with transportation from resort to seaport.

I'm not sure if you must claim your bags at the carousels for DCL when doing sea only, or sea first followed by land (resort).
