"So is this when they bring out the Mickey Mouse cattle prods??" Final Thoughts 1/10!

Wonderful update! I hope he isn't such a grump after that nap! I love the boys' matching toy story shirts. They're so cute! Too bad about the ice cream spill, but that's what boys do, right?

Loving your Poly pics. Everything looks so gorgeous! We're going to actually try out a deluxe for the first time before our APs expire, and this one is at the top of my list. I'm also hoping it will push me to actually eat at Ohana. I've made, and then cancelled, ADRs here sooo many times!

Can't wait to read more!

Isn't it awesome how self conscious we get when writing our TR's and pointing out the "unusual" behaviour we engage in on vacation? I think it's hilarious that it's obviously so common that on vacation many of us relax our bedtime and eating habits (among other things) and then we all feel we need to justify ourselves by making sure our readers know that we ONLY do this on vacation.
:lmao::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

It's like...we're good parents...really!! Please don't judge us!!

Too funny!!

Can't wait for more.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the sweet compliment about my boys!

LOVED the Poly! It was the 2nd deluxe we'd stayed at. I loved AKL and I loved Poly. They are so different though, it's hard to choose a favorite.

Please please please try 'Ohana at some point!! Definitely one of our favorite meals and we're slowly working our way around to all the restaurants on property. So far, 'Ohana is still way up there on our list!!

Just started reading and wanted to sub! Loving your report!

:welcome:

Thanks so much for reading!!!

*FYI: I edited the last update to add a very important picture I forgot. *

Okay, I give! I went back and scrutinized the pics again to find the one you added but...I can't figure out which one it is. :confused3

Help a sistah out and tell me which one it was...will ya?

Ditto. I didn't post b/c I felt sort of dumb. Now I know I'm not alone!

Ding Ding Ding!

Jasperann would be correct!

It's the picture of the Kona Kone.

Can't leave that beauty out!

Beginning the next update...... NOW!

We last left off leaving a slightly grumpy Mr. I in the room to take a much needed nap.

FGM, the boys and I were off on an adventure.

But man was it hot.

It was about 2pm by now.

HUMID! and hot!

We headed through GCH, up the elevator and out to the monorail platform. Our plan was to ride the monorail around and do some resort exploring.

096.jpg

Dash waiting on the monorail

Well.... it was so hot and it felt good to sit down in the air conditioning and the boys thought the monorail was the coolest thing ever.

097.jpg

So we decided to not get off at the GF and just ride the monorail around a few times.

Best decision ever!

The boys thought it was great and we were out of the heat!

After our first loop around and spotting the lovely WL in the distance, I mentioned to mom it might be cool to go explore the WL since we're booked there for Christmas. She was all for it.

The next time we stopped at MK, we got off the monorail and walked our way down the ramp and straight to the WL boat dock.

Magic Kingdom was tempting... but not tempting enough to add a whole day to my ticket that I had yet to purchase.

The boat was sitting there waiting for us... and even though there was already a line waiting we made it on that boat.

Holy hot as heck boat Batman.

There was ZERO breeze on that boat. I guess because of how slow it has to go. We were melting. The boys didn't seem to mind so much though. Dash claimed this was his first boat ride. Which he may be right. I can't remember. I know it was Jack Jack's first boat ride. He was very impressed with all the "watee" around us.

098.jpg

103.jpg

We finally after what felt like forever made it to the WL.

Love it!

Can't wait to stay there when it's COLD (at least cooler) outside though.

It was a booger getting up to the main lodge in the stroller. I'm sure there's a better way to do it than we did. We headed around by the geyser and ended up at the pool bar and it was a mess.

Finally we made it by the pool to the handicup accessible entrance by Roaring Forks.

We were thirsty by this point... so FGM and the boys went and found a table while I waited in a very long line for a drink. This place was HoppING! at around 3:00pm.

Lots of DDP peeps in line. I paid for my lonely little soft drink cup and found the boys and mom waiting for me.

We sat for a bit as FGM mopped herself off with some napkins. :lmao: A Classic Coke hasn't tasted that good in a long time. (I drink mostly diet soft drinks at home) Nothing better than a real Coke on a hot day at Disney. :thumbsup2

We all fought over the last sip ! Jack Jack won.

:rotfl2:

When wee finally headed out, I snagged a refill to take with us.

We made our way up the ramp into the gorgeous lobby. *sigh*

Can't wait to stay here!

My mom really really liked WL. I think she forgot how much we had all loved it back in 93 when we toured it on our only other Christmas trip that she and Edna and I took.

I took a few pictures, not that any of them do the lobby justice. Dash wanted some money to throw in the hot spring area.

105.jpg

106.jpg

107.jpg

I caught him in mid throw. Total concentration!

109.jpg

We briefly looked in the gift shop and somehow ended up on the elevator up and down the floors. I don't even remember why. I think I was trying to connect somewhere else... and it just didn't work. But we got a nice sneak peak of the hallways and hidden Mickeys on the wall paper and carpets.

Dash made his first pin trade with the DVC CM in the lobby. He was finally catching onto how pin trading worked and he was hooked in no time. EVERY person he saw with pins he wanted to trade with. It took a while for him to get the Disney employee v. perfect stranger concept.

We sadly had to wrap it up and head back to the boat dock by about 4:00. We'd managed to kill an hour there. Coulda stayed much longer! I think Mom's excitement level went up about 10 notches for our Christmas trip. :santa: Mine too, though I didn't think I could get more excited.

We made our way back to the boat dock much smoother than we'd gotten to the lodge. There was a boat waiting for us but not the big one. One of the little boats. I told FGM, let's take it! It beats sitting here waiting for the MK boat and we have to get on the monorail anyway no matter where the boat takes us so why not connect at the Contemporary.

And sure enough this boat was heading to the Contemporary next! Score on some pixiedust:

Woo hoo!

110.jpg

This boat was much cooler! It went faster so I think we got a better breeze, plus it was starting to get a little cloudly

Y'all should have seen me folding up the stroller and getting Jack Jack who was hot and tired at this point on the boat, while wrangling the stroller onto the boat.

And then repeat the process getting back off the boat.

UGH.

One of the cup holder/sunglass holder things popped off in my attempt to open the stroller a little too quickly.

Well like an idiot I stood there fixing it, not realizing that I was behind the rope line and the boat captain was standing there waiting for me to get finished before he could take the boat back out!

Oopsie!

I was flustered at the point but I handled it! By walking away as quickly as I could.

:rotfl2:

We came up the backside of the Contemporary and had to take advantage of this famous picture spot.

112.jpg

113-1.jpg

Should have gotten Jack Jack out of his stroller and gotten some pictures of him too but he hadn't wanted to get back in his stroller after the boat ride and I wasn't taken any chances in getting him out again.

Quickly enough we were inside the lobby of the Contemporary. I must have looked lost because I was asked by a CM in a suit if we could be helped. I explained we were trying to get to the monorail and he instructed me on the regular elevator to the 4th floor and then switch elevators to the monorail elevator to the 5th floor platform.

When we got off the elevator to the monorail platform, there was a line and it was a bit difficult to manuever the stroller and a nice family said, "here get in line in front of us, we know how hard it is to push those things up here"

:goodvibes

Very sweet of them and it wasn't like the line was so long that we were taking someone else's spot. Thank you kind family at the Contemporary! :flower3:

Soon enough we were back at the Poly! We didn't make it to the GF but I was sure Mr. I and I could make it over there on date night.

We made our way though the GCH, never tiring of the Poly smell that greets you as soon as you step inside.

As we were walking down the path by the waterfall we see Mr. I walking across the bridge. He had woken up and was thirsty.

It was nice to know that we wouldn't be waking him up. He asked us if we wanted anything and said he'd meet us back in the room.

I knew we needed to try to get the boys down for a nap.... but Dash was begging to swim.

I was hot, I was tired. I didn't relish the idea of trying to shimmy my way into a bathing suit with sweaty parts.

But we had told him he could.

So the plan was to get Jack Jack down for a nap and then have Dash and FGM sneak off to the pool for a bit. She wasn't really wanting to swim either but she would do anything for her grandson.

Right as we turned the corner to walk across the bridge, thunder boomed in the distance. Before we could say anything, Dash's face crumpled and he said "MAN!!! That means I can't swim."

After many promises to swim the next day, we all got into our cold dark room and everyone settled for a nap at around 5pm

Everyone including me.

Mr. I was wide awake so he was playing solitaire or something on his phone. I managed to blissfully dose off.

For about 30 mins.

Til a wrong number called my cell phone. I woke up at 5:45 to Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirate's Life for Me. (the ring tone I'd changed to for our trip LOL)

UGH!

Thankfully it didn't wake any one else up. I tried to go back to sleep, but alas... AGAIN. I could not.

I surfed the DIS some, took more trip notes. Mr. I and I texted each other from the same room so we could talk without waking up the boys and mom. :lmao:

They were able to sleep for about 2 hours in total. We had an 8:05pm 'Ohana ressie so I set a wake up call for 7pm to give us enough time to get cleaned up and changed.

We had a date with FAMILY!

Up next:
Would the boys be refreshed by their naps or just crankier?
Would we enjoy 'Ohana the third time around or would it fail to live up to our expectations?
Would we make it to the beach in time for the fireworks?

STAY TUNED!

I love how the two of you were texting across the room so you wouldn't wake anyone up. If Jim and I tried that we would be waking people up from all the swearing from trying to hit the right keys on the phone.

What a great way to start a relaxing trip. We love taking the launches. Glad you caught a breeze on the second trip. I've never taken the lauch to CR, I never knew where that icon was. Now I do, it looks like a perfect location for some great shots.

Loving the TR!!

Enjoying your trip report alot! I would love to stay at the Poly and the Wilderness Lodge one day as well. Our last couple of trips have been in July and I remember that heat and humidity - next trip will be me and DH hopefully the week after Thanksgiving in two years and I can't wait to go through the parks in cool weather! And thank goodness for FGMs - they are great on trips with small children!

See now THIS is exactly what I was planning on doing on our January trip...before we changed from two park days to four.

On our last trip we did DxDDP for the two days at SSR and we didn't start our park days until we moved to AKL so we just booked tons of Resort meals and hopped around.

Of course, getting lost on the way TO these resorts meant that we had only minutes to check them out instead of an hour or so like I had budgeted.

I think using Disney transportation helps with the not wasting time getting lost part, leaving more time to wander around and enjoy those resorts.

So, this time around when we dine at certain resorts (read my PTR if you want to know where we are eating....shameless plug, I know) since we'll be bussing/boating/monorailing it, we're more likely (I hope) to follow in your footsteps and spend time checking things out.

Can't wait to hear more...you're KILLIN' me here!! :rotfl2: I know you've been updating as fast as possible.

So glad you got at least a teensy nap and had fun with Grandma and the boys!!

:rotfl: I can so picture you guys doing that! It was kinda funny. We were both sitting on the edge of opposite beds so that our knees were nearly touching and we were texting.

What a great way to start a relaxing trip. We love taking the launches. Glad you caught a breeze on the second trip. I've never taken the lauch to CR, I never knew where that icon was. Now I do, it looks like a perfect location for some great shots.

Loving the TR!!

We enjoyed both boats for something different but the breeze definitely helped!

I didn't know where that Mickey sculpture was either. Glad we happened upon it!

Glad you're enjoying it!

Glad you're enjoying the TR! Summer trips aren't my preferred time of year but if it's that or not going, I'll sweat it out for Mickey!

You'll love the cooler weather! It's awesome!

FGMs are a wonderful addition to Disney trips! :thumbsup2

See now THIS is exactly what I was planning on doing on our January trip...before we changed from two park days to four.

You can probably fit some of this kinda stuff into your January trip too. Especially with the early closing parks. If you can feed your kids enough sugar and caffeine in them to prop their eyelids up! :rotfl:

On our last trip we did DxDDP for the two days at SSR and we didn't start our park days until we moved to AKL so we just booked tons of Resort meals and hopped around.

Sounds like it worked out great! I thought I'd miss going in the park but I didn't. It was nice to just go wherever we wanted and not have to push ourselves!

Of course, getting lost on the way TO these resorts meant that we had only minutes to check them out instead of an hour or so like I had budgeted.

:rotfl2: I bet !

I think using Disney transportation helps with the not wasting time getting lost part, leaving more time to wander around and enjoy those resorts.

Love Disney transportation (just another perk of staying on property) but you gotta prepare for that extra time it takes sometimes. I'll be glad when Jack Jack gets old enough that we can just hop in a taxi if we need to without a carseat.

So, this time around when we dine at certain resorts (read my PTR if you want to know where we are eating....shameless plug, I know) since we'll be bussing/boating/monorailing it, we're more likely (I hope) to follow in your footsteps and spend time checking things out.

I'm reading I'm reading! I just need to comment! I'm a bad bad person! :sad2:
I'll get back over there right NOW!

Can't wait to hear more...you're KILLIN' me here!! :rotfl2: I know you've been updating as fast as possible.

Actually no. I'm dragging it out just to torture you!

:lmao:

Ok kidding! It's mostly finding time when Mr. I and the boys are otherwise occupied! I've got the next update pics uploaded already so I should be able to get Day 3 part 4 up soon!

So glad you got at least a teensy nap and had fun with Grandma and the boys!!

We did have a good day! Laid back and low key! :woohoo:

Our wake up call woke those that were sleeping at 7pm. Once again Jack Jack was up and all smiles! We got the boy changed and FGM and I switched outfits as well. We left our building a little early, knowing that if we checked in a bit early it couldn't hurt.

We took our time getting there, enjoying the short but beautiful walk to GCH. We stopped and watched the ducks

117.jpg

and took another family picture.

115.jpg

The boys walked ahead of a us a little, and Dash reached for his brother's hand without being prompted to do so. What's a mom to do except snap a picture?

119.jpg

We checked in to 'Ohana around 7:45 and took a seat in the lounge area by the bar. Before we could order drinks, our buzzer went off. We were seated at a round table right across from the bread station. I was happy we weren't in the middle of the room where the lights are so bright, and since we were going to try to be done in time to make it down to the beach for the fireworks, having a window view wasn't an issue.

122.jpg

We were helped immediately, ordered our drinks and before we could look around had salad to go with our bread!

123.jpg

124.jpg

I ordered the Habanero margarita, Mr. I got the Backscratcher and Mom got just a frozen house margarita.

I had intended to order a pina colada. Not colava because I'm not a fan of raspberries. But I wanted something tropical and fruity to go with our Polynesian themed resort and restaurant.

BUT when it came down to ordering, I knew I'd enjoy a margarita more and just ordered my usual. But with a kick. And it was a mighty yummy kick! I loved it. It was in the standard cocktail book so hopefully it'll be around for a while. I haven't had any margaritas from the Tequila bar at Mexico in Epcot yet, but so far, this was the best margarita I've had on property!

When our server had taken our drink order, I quietly mentioned to her that I love the sticky wings but that the last time we'd been there they were very chewy and the skin hadn't been rendered enough, thus making my enjoyment level not as high. So I asked if I could request them extra crispy! She said sure! :thumbsup2

Not long after we got our drinks, the pot stickers arrived by themselves.

126.jpg

Then the wings. Piping hot wings! Boy were they hot. They must have double fried them and then walked them to the table. They had been delivered by a man in a chef's coat. So my request was obviously answered.

125.jpg

The pot stickers were good, but those wings. OMG ! The best I've had there yet. I will definitely request them extra crispy from now on! YUM!

Jack Jack wanted one immediately but they were too hot. Even for me at first. We had to let them cool down.

Mr. I finished his back scratcher and ordered a Lapu Lapu. :lmao:

The server said they were running out of pineapple shells and did he still want one in a glass if they were out. He said no, he'd take another backscratcher instead.

Apparently they had enough because this baby was delivered to our table

127.jpg

While we were waiting for the wings to cool, the broccoli and noodles arrived. as well as hot towels.

Now last trip Jack Jack went to town on the noodles. This time... he didn't so much. He wanted those chicken wings!

Soon enough they cooled down enough for us both to dig in. FGM had one or two and Mr. I had probably four and Jack Jack and I worked on the rest of them.

128.jpg

129.jpg

131-1.jpg

The way he has his teeth set in this picture cracks me up!

The meats came around and I skipped the pork and turkey. I did eat some shrimp and one piece of steak and it was good. Not dry, well cooked and still moist.

But I stuck to the wings for the most part. And so did Jack Jack.

I think we used every single hot towel they brought.

The kids didn't get up this time to do any of the activities. We were all enjoying our own company and our food too much. Jack Jack was keeping us entertained. We were all in a great mood. I'm sure the beverages helped. :rolleyes1

Before long... it was dessert time.

MY FAVORITE EVER! Banana Foster Bread Pudding. Which I forgot to take a picture of this time! Y'all know what it looks like though!

Oh gosh I love that stuff. But I pushed it off on everyone else as much as I could. I was sooooooooo full! I think we actually left some in the bowl!!! :scared1: :guilty: Couldn't be helped. We were stuffed!

They brought the kids out individual bowls of ice cream.
132.jpg

I caught Dash unaware

133.jpg

Better

It was a fantastic meal! Service was great! The food was the best we've had yet ...third times the charm I guess! We were happy happy campers!

134.jpg

136.jpg

And finished by 9:30pm!

We made our way out of the restaurant, down the elevator... none of us wanted to attempt stairs!

The beach already had quite a few people on it but it wasn't crazy crowded. We still found chairs... though not right on the water. Jack Jack didn't like the sand too much but Dash played while we waited for the fireworks to start.

I love the texture of the Poly sand. So soft! We all had our shoes off (except Mr. I who was wearing boots) and it was a great moment. Toes in the sand, full 'Ohana bellies, waiting for the fireworks.

I was sitting on a chaise chair and Jack Jack sat on the bottom part of the chair and leaned back against me. :cloud9:

Mr. I sat on the chair next to me and we were able to hold hands as the music started and the show began.

We were able to hear the music but not the talking as much. So we didn't get to hear much of the story.

The fireworks were amazing! I kept thinking how different the perspective from the Poly was because the fireworks looked to be much wider on each side of the castle than normal. :rolleyes1

I apologize for the lack of pictures from this part of our evening. I purposefully left the camera in my bag, terrified that I would drop it on the sand and ruin it! (thanks for the reminder Dugette) So no Poly beach night pics! Sorry!

The show was over all too soon and everyone began heading back to their rooms or GCH. We walked by the volcano pool and were surprised at how many people were still swimming. It was about 10:30pm. Still well in the 80s.

Dash had been begging all day to swim and had been really good at dinner.

I don't remember which adult suggested it first, but we all decided to go for a swim!

We rushed back to the room, quick changed, all the while Jack Jack chanting poo poo poo ! (for pool) FGM decided she didn't want to swim but she would come watch us.

We made it back to the pool with about an hour to spare before it closed. The lifeguard was off duty so the slide was closed but the water felt great and I loved the zero entry with a toddler! It was fabulous. He could splash and play and be adverturous but I didn't worry about him getting away from me! We all enjoyed it. Dash especially. He was in heaven!

We could see the castle all lit up and changing colors in the distance.

It was blissful!

We finally had to drag ourselves out of there at 11:30. Walked the short walk back to the room, threw the boys in the tub for a quick rinse, FGM watched the boys while we got cleaned up and we were all in bed by midnight.

It had been a wonderful night! I was high on the Poly!

7 hours of sleep ahead of us before our wake up call for rope drop the next day. I knew I'd crash after not sleeping any the night before. I figured Mr. I, Dash and FGM would sleep even though they'd had naps.

The one that surprised me was Jack Jack.

He'd had a nap. He'd had sugar. He'd had a late night swim.

HE was WIRED!

He tried to go to sleep, bless his heart. I finally got in bed between the two boys so Dash could go on to sleep. But Jack Jack tossed and turned. The little guy was soooo excited. He'd clench his eyes closed as tight as he could and rub my arm over and over and over again trying to go to sleep and just couldn't. I forgot how many times I whisper sang lullabyes to him. He kept asking for "More bebe wok." which is his way of asking me to sing Rockabye Baby.

I think he finally dosed off at 2am.

Momma was cross eyed tired.

I crawled into bed with Mr. I, exhausted having only slept about 3 hours the night before and with only a 30 min nap.

5 hours of sleep ahead of me, I drifted off easily with dreams of my first rope drop dancing in my head!

Up next:

Would we make rope drop?
Would the heat be unbearable?
Would Jack Jack make it through the day or melt down in the summer heat?
Would we get to see the MSEL parade and Nightastic fireworks from inside MK? The WHOLE reason this trip came to be?
Will I ever reveal the reason behind the TR title?

STAY TUNED!

What a perfect start to your vacation. The photos of the Poly are beautiful. :cloud9: I definately need to schedule time to explore the resort after eating at Ohana. Tonga Toast is another I need to try.

Your boys are cute. All you needed was a glass of milk with the crispy treat and you had a full breakfast, that's what vacations are for.:thumbsup2

Your family photo turned out great. Can't wait to hear what happens next.

I'm soooooooooo sorry I missed your comment!!

Thank you for the sweet compliment on my pictures! I'm trying to work on my perspective and enjoy taking pictures at Disney more than anywhere else!

Exploring Poly is a must! I'm realizing how much of it I didn't get to! Kicking myself!

Tonga Toast is definitely a need to try at least once thing!

Milk! Why didn't I think of that!? :lmao:

Thanks for reading!! :flower3:

Great update!!! I dream of Ohana's food! It was the best TS we had when we went in March. I think we will even go and pay out of pocket for it. Since we will have the CS plan free next time.

Can't wait to hear all about your next day!! :cool1:

We've never eaten at Ohana, but my mouth was watering at the pictures of those wings! they look delicious - my DH loves finger foods - wings, cheese sticks, etc., so he would definitely like it there. Both your boys are so cute and well behaved! And being able to sit and watch fireworks and then a late night dip in the pool sounds like a perfect ending to a Disney Day... can't wait to hear more!:)

So, I get the AllEars newsletter and in the AllEars Hears section where people write them to report things that they've experienced, someone reported that when they called WDW-DINE to make ADR's they were told that 'Ohana was going to be CLOSED FOR DINNER (refurbishment) from Jan 2 to Feb 3 (I think). Breakfast would still be running though.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

WTH???

You can still make dinner reservations online for dates during this time frame and I have an ADR for Jan 3rd. Should I email them do you think so they (AllEars) investigate further?

Thanks for the tip about the extra crispy wings!! I found them too gummy on our trip, so I'm going to try and remember to do this in January...that is, if I actually HAVE a reservation.

Say what?!

I think that's why there were no ADRs available for the month of January to begin with... waiting for the final dates of refurb to be released.

The CM I talked to on Aug 26th when I booked CP dinner and she told me the refurb was for Jan 17-2something.

Plus it makes no sense monetarily that they'd do the refurb at night and not in the morning if they were gonna pick one over the other.

They make more money per head at night... though net cost over cost of food may be higher for breakfast fare.

My head hurts!

Surely Disney wouldn't let us make an ADR if they were gonna be closed for a month?!

I'm hoping it's late news... i.e. someone explaining why the ADR window was closed and isn't accurate anymore!

I'd call Disney Dining straight. I can do it as soon as I charge my home phone. Left it off the base last night.
