A while ago I posted about the response to the ad to replace me when I retire.

Out of 80 resumes, my boss only found 4 people to interview :confused3. One had already found another job, no surprise since it took nearly 6 weeks to get to the interview stage.

One of the requirements was to know Excel. So the lady who was hired knows nothing about Excel.

So in addition to teaching her the basics of the accounts payable job, I am also teaching her the basics of Excel. Thank goodness I have until the end of December...

Sometimes ya just gotta wonder what were they thinking?

Oh My Gosh, my boss highered a complete idiot for my co-worker who retired. The girl never ever worked in an office, has no skills what so ever, she can't even freaking type, uses 2 fingers and pokes the keys. Can you believe that? Ya well she was an old neighbor of his who divorced her husband and needed a job so in a way he did a good thing giving her a chance...but she doesn't even try, been there a year and she just plays on the internet. I wish I could retire:guilty:

As an employer, I can say that it's getting harder and harder to screen. I think people are exaggerating (lying) more about their skills/experience in order to get a chance at a job.

Don't you know that every job candidate is an expert in Excel? I could interview 1000 people and they would all tell me that. After getting burned more than once, I now ask them in the interview to explain the =IF function to me. If they can explain it to me, I at least know they have basic Excel skills.

That doesn't stop them from embellishing in other areas. :lmao:

I did a bunch of stuff in Excel in my job many moons ago--but I don't know what =IF means and I think I have a pretty good basic working knowledge of excel. But I can learn pretty quickly and advance my skills.

My pet peeve is when they hire someone they think can "learn" and then it turns out it is a village idiot who essentially thwarts all efforts to train her. I had one of those and I got booted out of my job before it was my time to go as they figured that I was the one impeding her progress.

They were a bit shocked at how messed up things got in the 2.5 months she was in the job. My complaints to management and then to HR fell on completely deaf ears until one fine day they called me to validate her version of events as they (unbeknownst to me) were considering on not firing her after violating a very strict company policy. I had no idea what they were calling for, I thought they were calling to address my complaint. Let's just say--she got fired which is darn near impossible from that company.

That's a pet peeve. Some people who don't have a skill can learn it. It's the ones who cannot or won't that bug the living daylights out of me.

Later found out that she had been a transfer to our dept b/c her old dept mgmt b/c of her inept work skills. Still amazes me that our dept accepted her.

I have never embellished my resume...maybe that is why I am not getting hired. :confused3;)

I have always said I am a proficient to expert user of the entire Windows Suite....I have the silly test scores from the agencies that say I am proficient on Excel even though I've hardly ever used it. :rotfl:
