It all seems so contradictory to me when I read the previous threads I am confused. We are flying Southwest and taking the Magical Express to Caribbean Beach Resorts. If I am correct, I need to handle my own luggage (which is not a problem) and get it from the airline and onto the Express bus myself, because SW and CBR do not participate in the automatic handling of luggage from the airline to the room. Am I correct?

Getting luggage from the airport to the resort is handled by DME, no matter what airline you're on.

It's getting luggage back TO the airport, when flying SW, that's the confusing part.

But your question about getting luggage to your resort, that will be handled by DME; no need for you to get the luggage yourself (unless you're coming in after 10pm, but that's for all airlines).

Like Bumbershoot says:
Use DME to get your bags TO your resort

You only have to schlep them on the way back home.

What they said. Let DME get your luggage from the airport to your resort.

Let me explain why it is the way it is.

As you've already learned, everyone on every airline can take advantage of the automatic luggage delivery from airport to resort.

It's only for the trip back home that you have to handle your own bags yourself.

When people check their bags with Resort Airline Check-in (the service that let's you check-in for your flight and check your bags through to your flinal destination), the bags must be held in a secure area until they are transported to the airport. At CBR, there isn't enough room. Physically, there isn't enough room. They can handle the current number of bags headed to all the other "participating" airlines, but SOOOOO many people fly Southwest that the amount of luggage would be too much for CBR to securely store at one point.

So until they do some construction work, CBR's Resort Airline Check-in won't be able to accomodate Southwest passengers.

But I think you can understand that there's no need for a secure (as in TSA secure) luggage storage area for luggage coming from the airport to the resort, so that's why everyone on every airline can still get their bags delivered to them on the first day of their vacation.

Thanks! This is a great explanation! :thumbsup2

So what are you supposed to do if you have a late return flight with SWA and are staying at CBR? We were planning to visit the park on our last day and now we dont know what to do with our luggage??

You can have the resort store your bags while you visit the parks until you catch your ride back to the airport.

Bell services will still hold your bags. They just can't be give to RAC. The two are not related.
