My wife and daughters and I (huge Disney fanatics) often get into insane, and sometimes just silly, hypothetical Disney questions. But they can be fun. Recently we asked "If you could somehow take Walt Disney himself to any single attraction at WDW (or DL) today what would it be?" So we were curious what y'all would say. Keep in mind, you only get a few minutes with Walt, so you can show him only one attraction, to show how far the magic has come! Silly question, I know. Don't laugh at our Disney nerdness. What say you?
Our picks:
Me: CTM/ Wishes (sorry - counting that as one)
Wife: Soarin
DD: Soarin
I enjoy these types of questions - mostly because I have no singular answer when I start thinking.
A few things come to mind - the desire of Mr. Disney to immerse guests into an experience and keep them occupied.
-- It all started with a Mouse and Animation. The 3-D movies are wonderful. PhilharMagic shows the largest collection of classic Disney Characters than any other attraction. But I find Tough Bug/Bugs Life to go the extra step.
-- Disney's vision of the future was Animatronics. Small World & Carousel of Progress were born at 1964 World's Fair. I enjoy these and Haunted Mansion & Pirates too - Mr. Disney was alive when these were designed. He might have wanted to see Hall of Presidents. None of the new Animatronics is any better.
-- Splash Mountain - incorporates 'total immersion' and Animatronics with a well-themed and lengthy attraction. In a sense, it's Jungle Cruise with a Thrill, no jokes. Folklore suggests Mr. Disney loved Jungle Cruise.
-- Toy Story incorporates total immersion with a fun interactive ride.
-- Fantasmic! - new technology and fun for the entire family.
-- Interactive Comedy - Turtle Talk & Monsters Laugh.
-- Soarin' - the Attraction itself is very cool, but, in my view, it lacks the total immersion aspect.
Final Choices:
-- 3-D Movie (Bugs Life)
-- Splash
-- Toy Story
-- Soarin'
-- Fantasmic/Illuminations
-- Interactive Comedy
A good case can be made for each (and others).
I fall into the group that believes Mr. Disney, while having a sense of macabre, also wanted most attractions to still be family friendly and non-competitive. This notion eliminates Splash & Soarin' (Thrills are not for all), Toy Story (who likes losing?), Nighttime spectaculars can only been seen at night.....
I'm left with 3-D Movies and Interactive Comedy. All people do not like all jokes. Grumpy may not appreciate being 'That Guy' and 'Dude' may not be the best word to teach impressionable minds.......
So 3-D Movies. Tough Bug incorporates animation, animatronics, and a total immersion inside a gloriously beautiful tree.
It's Tough to Be a Bug is my choice.
