I was on the Disney Dream Sept. 9-12, 2016 and we had it per person in our stateroom.
How do you sign up for the free 50mbs? Would like a little data to check on the pup and send Christmas good tidings.
I turn my phone to airplane mode, then connect wifi to DCL guest. How do I make sure other apps aren't running in the background? Also, does airplane mode prevent my phone from receiving any emails and texts (I don't want to receive any). I only use my phone for pictures and maybe the app. I'm not a techie expert.![]()
On our cruise last May it was per stateroom. Same as our 2014 cruises (3 of them). That being said, there have been several reports of people being able to sign up separately (so the room actually got 2 or 3 50mb packages).Have things changed recently with the free 50MB (eg per stateroom, not per guest)?. Both my partner and I successfully got the free 50MB allowance EACH (same stateroom) on both of our last two cruises.
1. WiFi: On embarkation day, each stateroom can sign up and get 50MB for FREE to use for the length of their cruise. If you sign up after day 1, or you use up the 50 free MB, you can pay for other packages.
Chat function sounds perfect. Just what we'll need, thank you for this info. I was waiting for someone to tell me to disconnect, easier said than done for a 13 yr old addicted to snap chat. Lol
To answer your question, when you turn your airplane mode on, it does the following to your phone:
1. Disables cellular, you won't be able to send or receive anything that requires a cellular network (voice calls, texts, mobile data)
2. Disables Wi-Fi, and stops your phone from scanning for Wi-Fi
3. Disables Bluetooth
4. Disables GPS (on some devices)
You can go back and enable Wifi (and technically Bluetooth) while Airplane Mode is enabled - which will allow you to connect to the DCL Wi-Fi but keep your phone from trying to connect to a cellular service
Hope that helps.
Grandpop here is so looking forward to the grandkids not having their nose in the phone 24/7. They may even have to talk to each other.lol
This is exactly why I went into the cellular settings on my iPhone and switched it off for each app individually. It was kind of a pain and took a while, but the piece of mind was worth it for me.While all of that should be true, for the brief time DH was using an iPhone for work he put it in airplane mode for a flight and came home to charges. The phone was getting texts and was updating apps the whole international flight. While in airplane mode. He did successfully argue the charges; it was a glitch. But it wasn't fun to see.
She could pay for it herself.![]()
I downloaded the app just to see if I could look at some schedules and menus. But I guess you don't see anything unless you're connected to the ships wifi?

I not only put my phone on airplane mode, but I went into the settings under cellular and turned it off for all apps. I was afraid that Verizon would just use roaming or something and I'd come home to a $600 cell phone bill or something crazy like that. It was kind of a pain to go through the list of apps one by one, but it was the only way. Just got my phone bill and it was fine so doing that worked!
She actually does! Bought her own phone and pays the bill each month! Very proud of her!
