So I got accepted to the College Program...

and I really want to go. I am graduating from school in 3 weeks, and I have a year before medical school. It seems like a good time to go.

But my mother is very against the CP. My older brother did it and came home seriously in debt. She is very worried that that would happen to me. I am in a totally different financial situation then my brother ever was. I know I will be all right money-wise.

I haven't told my mom that I've been accepted because I know she is going to get all disappointed with me. Now I am thinking about not going, even though I do want to.

Just wanted to get that all out, thanks.

GO! Your mom will understand (if not today, then eventually). Now is the time in your life to do things like this. Don't let worrys about what your mom will think keep you from taking an opportunity to do something that you really want to do.

Congratulations on being accepted! I hope you can talk this out with your Mom and make her understand it's a chance of a life time.

My DS did the program about 5 years ago and he loved it! He would go back down on Christmas and Spring breaks to work and he kept his employment statis open that way. About a year after he graduated college, he moved to Orlando and now he works full time for Disney and is very happy. His wife works there part time too.

Good luck with Mom and the program should you decide to go.

Just don't let your mom talk to my mom. I was heavily HEAVILY in debt when I came home from the CP. Part of it was because it was during Sept 11th and my check each week was only 50 to 60 bucks to last till the next week. The other part was that I couldn't learn to stop using my credit cards and I drank too much.

But I hope you get to go, you'll have a blast and if you need any advice PM me, I have plenty of stories and info.

Just one factor to consider...are you deferring medical school entrance, or will you be applying during this coming school year (meaning the application process beginning in June)? If you will be applying this summer/fall/winter (it's a long process), it may not work out to do the WDWCP, as medical school admissions involve interviewing at various schools. You need to have an on-campus interview to be accepted to any American or Canadian medical school. If you're in the WDWCP, you may not be able to take the necessary time off to travel to and attend interviews.

I'm in the minority here but I think you should not go if you cannot get your mother's approval of the CP. Your mother knows you a lot better than anyone here on the boards and she certainly loves you a lot more too. If you trust her judgement in other situations then you should trust her in this one too.

As a mother of a dd that has applied for CP also I must say that if I discouraged my dd from going it is not because I don't realize she'll have fun. Of course she'll have fun but it might not be in her best interests to go now and I'll tell her that if that's what I feel. I really wish that WDW offered some kind of summer employment opportunity to college students. It's terrible that they have to put their studies on hold for semester if they want to work there in the CP.

CONGRATS!!!! It will be the most amazing time EVER if you go!! I took a semester off last spring to go down with one of my best friends from school and was the best thing I ever did. I was able to take a class down there and although I didn't get any credit for it or being on the program, the whole experience went beyond the credit and money. Once you complete a CP program you can go down in the summer for seasonal.

Just curious, what position did you get accepted for? I was accepted for quick food and beverage last year and decided not to go. It just wasn't the right time. If you get a job you really would enjoy and it seems as though the time is right, then GO FOR IT. I regret not going, that's why I might apply again this coming fall. Good Luck with you choices.
