I am a certified nursing assistant (CNA). We moved to FL (about 30 min from Disney) in July, and I wanted to get the kids settled in school, etc. before I started looking for a job. Well, I got my CNA license transferred to FL and started applying at the beginning of Oct. and NOTHING!! I did home health in OH, but I want to do acute care or long time care here. I think that and the fact that on the on line applications I am not able to list my OH license and I think they see that I got my FL license in Oct. and that kicks me out. If I can get a job by the middle to end of Nov. we can go to Disney for Christmas. If I don't, I have to cancel my campsite reservations and wait until I get a job to get our annual passes. I just want to cry. The kids have never been, and the 4 year old LOVES Mickey!!

I hate online apps for that reason. Sometimes you need to explain things. I'd see if you can squeeze it in somewhere so they can see you have more experience. Can you put a / and add OH and extend the dates to show your true license time?

Good luck! I'd love to see Disney at Christmas!

I would call the facility(ies) where you want to work and ask to speak to the person in charge of recuiting where you can explain your situation to them and ask the best way to get around this requirement.

Definately call, it can't hurt. Also, you can send a cover letter and resume through the traditional channels. I think you're right, assuming you don't have any experience based on licensing date.

Or, send a follow up note to your online application, saying that you miss patient care since moved, as you did it for XX years in OH.

Good luck!!

This is exactly what I would suggest. Good luck.

Have you tried hiring agencies? Also maybe be more flexible in what you're applying for?

Maybe you could just get one of the Florida 3 day passes or something and go for a day and do a longer trip later since you live so closer? I used to live in Tampa and we went for the day all the time. Ate breakfast at home, packed a lunch sometimes if on a budget and ate dinner on the way home and just snacked. There's always the monthly payment plan for FL resident passes too but you'd still have to pay for one day tickets as the "downpayment".

You should just walk in to any LTC facility you are interested in. I am a nurse in MA, and I know our facility talks to people the day they come in to apply, and they rarely look at online apps. I bet if you take a couple of hours to go around while your kids are at school, you will have a job by the end of the day! Try LTC and assisted living facilities, there should be plenty of them around! Good luck!
