So Frustrated! Lost & Found rant!

I'm SO frustrated and upset right now!

I had THE SAME FRUSTRATION last fall. My mother bought my daughter a Little Mermaid silk jacket with a matching baseball hat about 2 weeks before our trip. Coming from New England, it was quite chilly the morning we headed to the airport, so she wore the ensemble... She removed her jacket on the DisneyExpress bus, handed it to me, and I placed it in the overhead shelving inside the bus. Then, my mother, neice and son decided to change seats to move closer to the front of the bus. I was sidetraced by my 3 year old jumping on the seats in the back of the bus, so I snatched her up and headed forward to meet the other 3 in our party. Later that afternoon, while we were unpacking I realized I left the jacket in the overhead shelving in the back of the bus (driver 's side). It was the ONLY item in the bus on the shelving. I immediately called the front desk for direction, was given the same direction you received, and spent at least an hour every day of that week trying to track down this brand new coat. No luck here either. Like you, I knew EXACTLY where I 'left' it -- however, unlike you, it was not 'secured' so it's possible another guest who took the MExpress may have scoffed it up. -- Good luck!! Keep trying!! --

I have not yet heard back from Disney about this (emailed on Saturday). :confused3

NHTikiBeckie, DisneyBugs, TLSnell1981, thank you for your kind words. :)

Little Flounder - if you still have the number, please call Amy back. Yes, she is a parking manager at TTC, but the parking people do the Lost and Found at TTC. I know Amy - I worked at TTC for 1.5 years - she is super nice.

I am sorry you have top go through this, and listen to everyone remind you how it is your own fault. Regardless that it was a mistake, that doesn't mean you should not be upset that you have been unable to get the items back and that they have not turned up. We have all made mistakes like this and it is a terrible feeling, I hope you get your items back!

To the OP -

Try to remain hopeful - I once lost something at the MK and it did take a long while to recover it from L&F, but it was found eventually!!

I have to ask............WHY would anyone try to dump on the OP??!! Can we not come here for advice and support in these kind of situations? I think that is one of the great things about the DIS!!!

I agree!

Forget letters! Forget emails! Pick up the phone and CALL merchandising. You are going to have to eat the phone bill, this is your fastest way to satisfaction. They are amazing people in merchandising. Explain the situation, and yes, they will be able to see that you purchased those items on your card. Take a few minutes and do this, you won't get the runaround this way and they will replace these items.

The OP forgot the items..

End of story.. Items are gone and WDW has no reason to "refund" something she is at fault for.

They are a huge company and have to understand that a large number of people are out there with fraud as their intent. They can not just get her new items for something they had nothing to do with.. That sets a horrible policy for them. If they do it for her, anyone can claim the same thing.

Sorry she forgot the items, but the burden is on the OP. Next time, carry the stuff or have it shipped back to the room. Either way, she learned her lesson

I think you are being very unfair.

There was not enough time to have the items sent back to my room. It was my last full day at WDW and I was leaving the next day at 2pm.
So I left the stuff in the locker and that was my fault. I know that and I've been told that countless times on this thread. What is not my fault was that something likely happened to these things between being cleared from the locker and arriving at Lost & Found. That is beyond my control.

Honestly, I'm surprised that WDW Lost & Found works at all.

And that's no slag against Disney, but moreso the sheer volume of stuff collected every day and routed to the L&F areas.

I have been to the backstage area where L&F stuff goes after however long without being claimed. The volume of sunglasses alone was STAGGERING.

LittleFlounder, I hope you take the time to call Angie at the TTC because as noted, they do manage the L&F for the MK and she's worth a ring.

OP, ignore these blame posts, they don't help you right now. Please just heed my advice and call merchandising, you'll be glad you did.

It has been my experience that if you lose something at WDW, it's gone. I lost sunglasses (left them at Crystal Palace), a visor (left it at CRT), and a pirate treasure map. Lost and found never got any of them.

Disney owes the op nothing... Not hard to understand.

They have no obligation to replace something that the op lost, forgot or misplaced. The OP is at fault. That happens and sorry for it.

But to come here and expect Disney to be the ones to fix YOUR mistake is silly. Lost and Found is something they try to provide, but they are not held accountable when/if you can not get an item back.

Not sure why the op feels that someone else should cover her mistake..

OMG, let's see how many things did we lose on our last trip - sunglasses, hats, little souvenirs, even socks I think. Did I bother going to the lost and found - no way! Please, how can anyone expect to find anything that they lost in a place that holds what - about 50,000 a day or so?? Honestly, I would chalk this up to a "a lesson learned" and leave it be.

Yes, yes, yes.. one lesson is learned...I'll never leave anything in a locker again at Disney.

This is the thing... I did not "lose" these things. I didn't leave this stuff (bag of Epcot merchandise) on a bench, in a ride or at a restaurant. They were left in a locker, cleaned out, and then supposedly taken to lost and found. Only castmembers had access to it. If I had left something randomly at the MK, I would not be going to all this trouble to find it, I know I'd probably never find it. But this is different. There should be no reason why this stuff cant be found.

I can understand your frustration. But a question for anyone who's been to lost and found - do you just get to go rummage through, or do you have to give them a list and they go look? I just wondered if someone else (another guest) could have walked in and said they left a bag or two of stuff, and walked off with the OP's stuff. Just a thought.

I have had decent luck with lost things at Disney. DD lost her Cell phone in one of the seats on Space MT. She went back to the ride and was allowed up to the area where the ride is loaded and one of the CM's had it still and returned it to her.

A friend on vacation lost a wallet and the next day it was at Lost and found sill with the money inside. :)

A neighbor's family lost their big back pack with everything including tickets and it was also at lost and found the following day.

Little Flounder I don't think its too much to expect that items left in a locker should be returned to you. I hope they show up.

No, guests don't get to go into Lost and Found. They might never be able to get out again!

It can take over 3 weeks for things to be tracked down from Lost and Found, whether they are left on a bench or left in a locker. Did you call the stores at EPCOt where you purchesed the items to see if they were returned there by mistake?

I see the Op's point. She didn't loose the items, she left them in a locker that she paid for. I think it is quite reasonable for her to think Disney should know where the items are or at least try to help her find them.

Op: Don't give up. Hopefully Lost & Found will find your items.

During one of my trips last year I lost my hat while riding Space Mountain. I went to L&F a couple of days later and they did indeed have it. So I guess it depends on whether you lose items where other guests might be able to pass by and take them.

I see the OP's point too. Nothing was lost until Disney removed it from the locker. I would think that Disney would bag anything that is removed from a locker and label it with locker number and date. It shouldn't be that hard to keep track of it.

Do we need to put a label in the locker with our resort and cell phone number? Would they even care? It's starting to sound like Disney lost and found is as out of control as Delta baggage! (OK, cheap shot. Sorry, etc...)

But, Disney charges for lockers. That implies some duty to look after things that are left in them overnight.
