So do you NOT need a magicband?

We have little last-minute trip planned Thursday-Monday. We are staying at SSR and have one day planned at MK. I have an AP and a magic band that I always use that’s linked to it. However, my husband, step daughter, and her friend do not have magic bands linked to their tickets. I have read that you aren’t supposed to visit the front desk at the resort, so I’m assuming they aren’t issuing bands. How do you get in the park or in the room if you aren’t the main person in the reservation? (I read that you can use the card used to purchase the tickets? I would be the only one that has possession of that card). I’ve tried to read up on stuff as much as I can, but I still don’t have a clear understanding of how it’s going to work.

You can go to the front desk to get any magic bands they're holding for you. The front desk is not an off-limits area. They're just trying to reduce unnecessary traffic there.

Beyond that, you can unlock your door using the MDE app on your phone.
 
We picked ours up at the front desk on Friday at Pop. I just went up alone after we already went to our room and opened the door with our phone. We still used our bands for purchases in the park and passes that we were given after being evacuated off Splash.
 
You can go to Guest Relations and get a hard ticket that would work as your tickets and room key. They probably have that at the front desk as well.

They would give one to each person with a ticket.
 

The OP is at SSR so will have MBs waiting at the Front desk for pickup. Not a good idea to wait in line at GR since the lines have been quite long and slow do to all the ticket changes.

I think that the app will work to open the room. Make sure everyone staying in the room is registered to you on My Disney Experience.

I would not want to rely on my phone to open my door. Too many times after a long day in the park, my phone is dead.
That's why Magic Bands are still available. No one who doesn't want to rely on their phone doesn't have to.

I love having options.
