So disappointed with CBR!

We just got back from our trip to Disney yesterday. We stayed at the CBR and booked a Pirate Room. The room was cute but we will definitely not be staying there again.

The resort was so spread out. The pools were always crowded. The room was dirty even though it was recently renovated. Even though we tipped like we do at the deluxe resorts, the room was not cleaned to my liking. The air conditioning unit did not work correctly. The fridge did not get cold enough. The buses were awful....the waiting was the worst we have encountered at Disney. We waited for a bus from Hollywood Studios for 30 minutes (I counted 4 Saratoga Springs buses, 3 Allstars, and 3 Pop buses go by in that time we waited for 1 CBR bus). It just didn't have that Disney feel that we are so accustomed to.

To top it all off, there was a cheerleading competition going on while we were there and different school bands were performing. Now as a former cheerleader I think I would be more understanding about this but the girls were rude and obnoxious. They would block the way to the rooms and not let you by. When I said excuse me while one of them stopped to hug friends right in front of us she looked at me like I was the rude one. The coach was having them practice right outside of our room too! The bands were practicing too and that was loud!

I am so glad that we only stayed for 5 nights instead of our usual length of stay. After staying at CBR it made me realize how much I love the deluxe resorts. I don't mean to sound like a hotel snob but I told DH that I will only go to Disney if we can stay at a Deluxe from now on.

Were there id checks at the pool as they have a new kiddy pool which may attract hoppers.

I don't know if there were ID checks. Everytime we walked by the pool there were no chairs available and to just go in the pool you would have to not be claustrophobic because it was PACKED! My little sister went swimming in the quiet pool at Trinidad South but even that was really packed for a quiet pool. My husband took my little sister to the quiet pool on our first day and had their towels and clothes on two chairs only to find people laying on them when they got out of the pool.

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay at CBR-I originally had a pirate room booked for our next trip, I'm glad I changed it.

Sorry about your bad experience, we have stayed for first time in March and we loved it, I run every morning and it was fantastic to do at CBR, for us it was a very good experience and we have stayed many times at differents de luxes and Dvc resorts, the new pool it´s awesome, this is the good of WDW differents tastes for everyone, hope that your next vacation will be better

I feel your pain! We disliked CBR also, for many of the reasons you stated. And until you said something in your post, I had completely forgotten that our fridge didn't cool very well either. We also felt like the room was shabby even though it was newly renovated. We learned our lesson too, but glad we at least gave it a try. Hope you had a good time regardless of CBR.

I consider myself a hotel snob as well, but I strongly considered CBR for the pirate room. I think your post help me realize that I should stick with deluxe!

Many have reported that opening the decorative door where the fridge is housed helps it to cool better.

Glad for this tip! I haven't yet convinced my dh of the 01/10 trip we are going to take but he recently started running (about 2 years ago) and I'll use this as ploy- hard to run outside in Maine in January!!

We love CBR. We stayed at a preferred location though and would definately do that again!

I'm with you there! I haven't stayed at CBR in quite some time. I think the only way I will go back to a Moderate at this point is if I'm really, really on a budget!

Couldn't agree more, my stay there 3 years ago was a disaster. I too, find the delux resorts "the only way" to do WDW. Yes, they are more expensive but worth every dime. Next time try the Wilderness Lodge (my fav resort!) or the Boardwalk Inn.

My biggest negative with CBR was the rudeness and downright hostility I encountered by cast members. It's a long story but you can bet your life I will never stay there again, I'd rather stay at a Motel 6 offsite!!!!

sorry about your stay .......i have been saying for years disney is going down hill fast.....the bus thing kills me it is so frustrating when like you said other hotels have 2 or 3 buses come and go before you get one ugggggg. and i have never had a cold fridge...i spend more time getting things fixed and switching rooms than i do in the parks ....LOL but i keep going back.

I am sorry you had a bad time, why don't you just rent a car? I love to CBR, but I wouldn't even think of being in a resort that large w/o a rental car. I nevered stayed in a Pirate room as I have a girly girl, but I have never had a dirty room before in the preferred rooms. Did you call the desk to have them clean your room over?

I am by no means a fan of the CBR (it is our least favorite of the moderates) but those who said they would only stay in a deluxe because they had a rude and hostile CM at the CBR and for those STILL considering going to the CBR and being scared off because there was a hostile CM at the CBR, please realize this can happen at ANY Disney resort--from value to moderate to deluxe. We stay at the CSR every year now and have never had a rude CM. However, when we stayed at the Contemporary we had two very rude CM's at the registration desk and in the counter service restaurant.

We stayed there a few years ago and we felt the same way. The buses were slow, the resort was so spread out & the rooms were not very clean. Even with the new themed rooms, I am not tempted to return. We even stayed at Music last time with two rooms and enjoyed it much more than CBR; no joke. We will be going to POR in a few months and I have high hopes of liking it.

We are DVC members so we have stayed at a fewof the deluxe resorts Boardwalk, Wilderness, Beach Club... CBR was our first Disney resort we stayed at in 99...and it was rundown..but we enjoyed it... but we love Port Orleans... I think its a hit/miss with the CMs . As for cleanliness... call front desk and complain. Large crowds this past week probablly due to the fact that alot of the northeast has this week off for april vaca.. at least massachusetts does... its always crowded this week.Ive been there during this time and they have to close the parks do to exceeding capacity.... We choose to go in the summer instead.. Sorry for your troubles.. theres always next trip!

The buses can be bad at any Disney resort. I used them a couple of times and swore I never would again, and I always stay in deluxe resorts. If I don't drive down, I rent a car.
